Chicago – One of the more unique independent films that worked the festival circuit in 2012 and ’13 was the drama “Mr. Sophistication.” The main character was Ron Waters, a comedian described as “Richard Pryor’s protegé.” Actor Harry Lennix took on the character, breathing in both the drama of the show business story and the particular style of stand-up.
The film was recently released in downloadable and DVD formats. While on that festival circuit, Harry Lennix and the production crew – writer/director Danny Green and producers Jon E. Edwards and Albena Dodeva – stopped by Chicago, and HollywoodChicago.com spoke to them about the film.

Chicago – In its final days, the 48th Annual Chicago International Film Festival is poised to close with a glorious bang. Chicago native Robert Zemeckis (of “Back to the Future” and “Forrest Gump” fame) will return to the festival for the closing night screening of “Flight,” a thriller starring Denzel Washington. It’s Zemeckis’s first live-action feature since 2000’s “Cast Away.” Here are the highlights covering the remaining days of the festival, from October 18th to October 25th, 2012.
Zemeckis isn’t the only exciting guest scheduled to attend the festival in the days ahead. David O. Russell (“Three Kings,” “The Fighter”) will be on hand for the October 23rd screening of his widely celebrated dramedy, “The Silver Linings Playbook,” which has been singled out as a major awards season player, according to festival buzz. On the heels of his Guillermo del Toro-produced chiller, “The Orphanage,” filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona...

The Chicago International Film Festival, which runs from October 11-25, announced their official schedule yesterday; and among the dozens of films which will be presented at this year's festival, are several that will, no doubt, be of interest to readers at S & A. Director Danny Green's feature film Mr. Sophistication starring Harry Lennix, which we profiled over a year ago (Here) will be presented. The film deals with, as we said, "a comedian, Ron Waters, who is a Richard Pryor-type of entertainer who makes commentary about the world rather than one-liners. After a self-imposed exile from Hollywood, Ron is back." Green, Lennix and the producers of...

Tatum O'Neal has been cast opposite Harry Lennix in a new indie drama, Mr Sophistication, which will be directed by Danny Green. Lennix - who has been seen on TV recently in Dollhouse, but is likely still best known for his roles in the Matrix sequels - will play Ron Waters, a washed up, drug-addled, Richard Pryor-alike comedian who grabs hold of a chance to revitalize his career. O'Neal will play his wife and business partner, who helps him ditch the drugs so he can return to the stage. Green scribbled the script and will make his directorial debut after spending years as a second assistant director on the likes of Stomp The Yard, American Dreamz, Flight Of The Phoenix and Envy. His credit list may not bode well, but he's starting small…...

TORONTO -- Canadian broadcaster Chum Ltd. signaled a sea-change in corporate strategy when company founder, president and chairman Allan Waters announced he was stepping down after nearly a half-century at the helm. Other executive changes include Jim Waters, Allan Water's son, becoming chairman after leaving his current posts as executive vp of Chum Ltd. and president of Chum Radio. And another son, Ron Waters, will also step down as executive vp of Chum Ltd. and become vice chairman, replacing Fred Sherratt, who also retires as COO of Chum Ltd. As the Waters family, majority shareholders in Chum, gives up day-to-day control of the Toronto-based TV and radio broadcaster, they will be replaced in the executive suite by Jay Switzer, who is promoted from president of Chum Television to become president and CEO. The hand-over marks a transition from family day-to-day control of Chum to professional management.
