She was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize, in 1921 for "The Age of
Innocence".
Established the American Hostels for Refugees in 1914 for those left
homeless by the war.
In 1916, she was awarded France's highest decoration, the Cross of the
Legion of Honor.
Moved with her husband to Paris, France, where she lived until
her death. (1910)

farmer, was a departure for Mrs. Wharton. She usually set her stories
in the world of New York City's upper classes.
