Vanessa White was voted off 'Popstar to Operastar' last night (22.01.10). The Saturdays singer became the second contestant to leave the show after her rendition of 'Summertime' failed to impress the judges. Vanessa lost out to Jimmy Osmond in the show's bottom two for eviction, after the judges - Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen , Meat Loaf, Katherine Jenkins and Rolando Villazon -were deadlocked in their decision as to who to send home and the decision was put to the public vote. Vanessa - who also finished in the bottom two last week alongside Blur bassist Alex James, who was voted off the show - ..

Vanessa White has become the second celebrity to be voted off ITV’s Popstar To Operastar.
The Saturday’s singer was berated on tonight’s show for missing a rehearsal this week and for singing an easy song badly.
Vanessa found herself in the bottom two for the second week running, this time competing with Jimmy Osmond who Rolando claimed had a tired voice tonight.
Meat Loaf and Katherine Jenkins voted to save Osmond, while Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Rolando Villazon voted to save White. This resulted in a tie breaker situation which resulted in Alan Titchmarsh reverting to the public vote results. Thankfully the public were no more impressed with Vanessa than we were and let’s just say she’ll be able to fully dedicate herself to The Saturdays once more.

New ITV show 'Popstar to Operastar' has been branded a flop. The show, which contestants including McFly's Danny Jones and The Saturday's Vanessa White attempt to learn how to sing an opera, pulled in four million viewers but has been blasted by an opera star. Welsh soprano Rebecca Evans said: ''I think it's exploiting the world of opera. ''They will be calling more people opera singers when they are not opera singers - it's television gone mad. ''Being an opera star is working in an opera house where you spend six weeks in a rehearsal room planning for the production. Opera ..

How gutted are we that our favourite contestant was booted off Popstar To Operastar tonight? Alex James may have been the worst singer on the opera based talent show but he was by far the most entertaining.
During his quirky performance tonight he reminded us of Dancing On Ice’s Todd Carty or Strictly’s John Sergeant, so very hilarious and much more interesting than some of the more talented singers.
However the Blur bassist didn’t get the votes and ended up in the bottom two with The Saturdays singer Vanessa White. The judges were split about who should leave and so the public vote was used to determine the result, which saw Vanessa going on until next week.

So we’re liveblogging tonight’s first ever Popstar To Operastar and if it wasn’t presented by Alan Titchmarsh we might actually be excited.
It’s an interesting concept though, they are aiming to turn former pop singers such as Kym Marsh and that Saturday’s girl into bona fide opera singers. The contestants are being mentored by the lovely Katherine Jenkins and the snakey eyebrowed Rolando Villazon and critiqued by Meat Loaf and Lawrence Le flouncy blouse (aka Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen).
The show kicks off with loads of VTs. Katherine and Rolando tell us how amazingly emotional Opera is and Meat Loaf boasts about all his experience.
Jimmy Osmond
It all runs on a bit and then Jimmy Osmond emerges, he’ll be singing that Cornetto song. He rehearses too much and tires out his vocal chords. Will he be ok singing tonight? Oh the drama!!

For Vanessa White from The Saturdays, being introduced to the world of opera has been a revelation. The singer, who is being trained to perform arias live on Popstar to Operastar, declares that, “opera is so relaxing. Some people think it’s just for old people, but it appeals to everyone. Opera music is universal.”
The singer, whose band has toured with both Girls Aloud and Take That, confesses that working on the show has been a steep learning curve. “Singing opera is completely different from singing pop. You have to learn a whole new style of performance. In pop, you use your head voice, while in opera it comes from the stomach.
“Also pop singers place their tongues at the back of their mouths, while opera singers have them at the front. I’ve learnt to hit high notes I never knew I could reach. It’s been an amazing process.

Popstar to Operastar is a brand new series for ITV1 in which best-selling recording artists from the world of pop discover if they’ve got what it takes to perform as opera divas.
Mentored by classical hit-singer Katherine Jenkins and famed tenor Rolando Villazon, the eight contestants will be trained to perform world famous opera songs – many of them learning to not only sing in a completely different style, but also a completely different language than they are used to.
After their performances the pop stars will be critiqued by a panel made up of their mentors Katherine and Rolando and two critics, international award-winning rock musician Meat Loaf together with TV presenter and Classic FM radio host Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.
Those taking part are:
Alex James, who found fame as the bassist in Blur. The band had five number one albums and in 1995 won four Brits breaking a record for...

For this week's final Halloween movies list, I decided to turn hit up the real superstars: my co-workers here in the MTV Newsroom who keep this great ship moving every damn day. After the jump you'll find recommendations and reminiscences from around the office. If you're game for some heavy reading, make sure to check out the last write-up, detailing Joel Hanek's pick: "Ernest Scared Stupid." Oh yes, he went there.
As for myself (MTV Movies Blog editor Adam Rosenberg), it's a toss-up. To this day I still have occasional nightmares relating to "Candyman," the Bernard Rose-directed, Virginia Madsen-starring horror flick based on a tale by novelist Clive Barker. There's something uniquely terrifying about the Candyman's ability to attack at any time, day or night. When horror can touch you even in the relative safety of sunlight, that's something to fear.

'The first I heard about it was people were suggesting me on the Internet for the part,' Jackie Earle Haley says.

For decades, Hollywood cast the person they thought would bring in the most money for a movie role, often resulting in some odd choices (Vince Vaughn in "Psycho," Kevin Costner in "Robin Hood," Keanu Reeves in virtually everything) that were largely rejected by audiences. But now, it's the 21st century, and the Internet has made film more of a conversation than a monologue. From Michael Chiklis as The Thing in "Fantastic Four" to Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool in "Wolverine," several high-profile castings of the last few years have begun online — and Jackie Earle Haley couldn't be happier.

The quote above comes from Jackie Earle Haley, who will terrorize the nightmares of teens as Freddy Krueger in director Samuel Bayer's remake of the classic Wes Craven horror flick, "A Nightmare on Elm Street." It is a role that was previously brought to life by Robert Englund, who chews scenery with the best.
"You know, I think my Freddy is just a bit more serious," Haley told MTV's Vanessa White Wolf during an on-set interview. As fans well know, later versions of Englund's take on Krueger skewed heavily towards slapstick horror as opposed to overt creepiness.
From the sound of things, the "Nightmare" remake will take horror back to its roots. Which isn't to say that Freddy the jokester will be absent if the rebooted series continues forward. "He's not much of a comedian," Haley said. "But I'm working on my tap dancing lessons, just in case they do a sequel.

Hall.
Oates.
Yep, I spent the most amazing 20 minutes of my life (sad?) talking to Daryl Hall and John Oates in the Icon Room over at Sony. And it turns out that in addition to being the most amazing blue-eyed soul act ever, Daryl and John are also extremely punctual: They walked in at the same time we did, a full 30 minutes before cameras were set to roll. They were funny, thoughtful and had a lot to say about Do What You Want, Be What You Are, their new four-cd box set and the reason for the sit-down in the first place.
