James Franco is currently at the Sundance Film Festival promoting the many projects he's currently working on. And he just announced that he will star in and direct "Beautiful People," a biopic of Jay Sebring, who was a hairstylist to the stars in the 1960s and who died violently at the hands of the clan led by Charles Manson. The screenplay is written by Lauren Wild, and charts the rise of Sebring as he climbed the social ladder in Hollywood during the 60s. There is also a focus on his romantic relationship with the beautiful young actress Sharon Tate, who was married to director/child-rapist Roman Polanski. Both Tate and Sebring were victims of the notorious murder spree. Franco will next appear in "Oz The Great and Powerful," "Spring Breakers," "Lovelace," and his own "Kink" and "Interior. • James Franco is taking a break from his life of leisure and and media underexposure to star in and direct Beautiful People, a biopic about Jay Sebring, who built a hairstyling empire in the 1960s. He was also something of a famous international gadabout, including a romance with actress Sharon Tate, which eventually became platonic. Sebring was killed along with Tate in the infamous Manson Family murders, though it’s not clear if the screenplay by first-timer Lauren Wild includes that sad chapter of Sebring’s life. [Deadline]
