A pair of new books about James Brown by two of his children offer a disturbing look into the world of the "Godfather of Soul," with graphic descriptions of abuse and unbelievable tales of family murders going back 40 years. In her new memoir Cold Sweat, James Brown's daughter Yamma Brown graphically describes how the legendary singer beat his second wife, Dee Dee, and recounts her own abusive marriage. A book by Yamma's half-brother Daryl Brown, Inside the Godfather, makes wild claims about Brown's death, suggesting that the singer was murdered — as were other family members as

Los Angeles - Stuart Murdoch, frontman and founder of Scotting band Belle & Sebastian, has been juggling a couple projects over the past year. First was his God Help the Girl music side project, then "God Help the Girl," his first film foray as writer and director, and then a brand new album for B&S. It's the one in the middle, he said in our interview this week, that changed everything. He called the big-screen musical "a whole new thing, I won't ever go back." "God Help the Girl" -- starring Emily Browning, Hannah Murray (Gilly on "Game of Thrones") and Olly Alexander -- has been on the festival circuit since January. It's set in Murdoch's homebase in Glasgow, with Browning starring as Eve, a young girl struggling with anorexia and other mental health issues, finding temporary relief in songwriting with two new friends. For any fan of Belle & Sebastian,...

There was a time not too long ago when Martin Scorsese was thought of as a critic’s darling, not a crowd-pleaser. However, since The Aviator hit the $100 million mark in 2005, three of his other DiCaprio films (The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street) crossed that box office threshold. More popular than ever, the 71-year-old can make the sorts of pictures he wants. While he is about to start filming his long-brewing Silence and premiere his documentary The 50-Year Argument at the Toronto Film Festival, word is out that the master director is now attached to make a film about the legendary punk group The Ramones.
The rockers’ various estates are now in a deal to give archival material to creative sources, including Scorsese, says Jeff Jampol, who co-manages the band’s estate. “Everybody [from the families] is cooperation and moving in one direction together as a team,” Jampol told Billboard.

Gabba gabba hey! Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese is planning to direct a movie about the iconic punk rock band The Ramones, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap. There is no timetable in place since there's no writer on board yet, but Scorsese wouldn't turn his attention to the Ramones project until after he wraps his next movie “Silence,” which heads into production next year. Also read: A Beer Run for The Ramones Comprised of lead singer Joey, guitarist Johnny, drummer Tommy and bassist Dee Dee, The Ramones started playing their first live shows 40 years ago in 1974. Hard to believe that The Rolling Stones, half of The Beatles and The Who, and a dozen more bands that started a full decade before The Ramones (1974) have outlived them, and in many cases are still touring. They were one of my favorite punk bands ever... and with the recent death of Tommy Ramone (nee Thomas Erdelyi), all four original members of one of New York's finest bands ever, we are not "glad to see you go." The first three -- lead singer Joey (nee Jeffrey Hyman, died 2001), bass player Dee Dee (nee Douglas Colvin, died 2002), and guitarist Johnny (nee John Cummings, died 2004) -- all died only within six years after calling it quits.
They did not go gently into the night. Their off-stage dramas kept them from maintaining their once shared friendships.
Ironic isn't it? The original Ramones, the guys from "Rockaway Beach" that wanted to be sedated, are all gone.

Tommy Ramone, the former Ramones drummer, died on Friday after a battle with bile duct cancer. He was 65.
Tommy Ramone Dies

Back in March, Hollywood Hillbillies' Michael made the decision that he was going to forget about acting for awhile and instead focus his energies on being a rapper. Since then, we've been anticipating the debut single from our favorite Angry Ginger, and it turns out that both the song and the video are well worth the wait. The video, which was featured on TMZ, serves up all of our favorite things from the show, including shopping-cart grills, moonshine served in a mason jar, and truck-bed hot tubs. It also features plenty of Mema, Aunt Dee Dee and Uncle Johnny in all their hillbilly glory. We don't want to give anything else away, because the only way to truly appreciate this video is to watch.

Horror comedy Smothered is written and directed by actor turned director John Schneider. Yes, you did read that correctly… Actor John Schneider, who many will know from family-friendly productions and his roles as Bo Duke on Dukes of Hazzard and more recently Jonathan Kent, aka Superman’s dad, on Smallville, has turned his hand to writing and directing in more recent years but who knew he had a penchant for penning horror? Admittedly he has had roles in low-budget monster movies such as Super Shark, Snow Beast and Lake Placid 2 but I had no idea he was such a horror fan – he certainly has to be to create such a love letter to the horror community as Smothered.

Dum Dum Girls' Video For "Rimbaud Eyes" Is the Sexiest Cartoon of the Day Watch frontwoman Dee Dee Penny traipse through a psychedelic red-light district. by Liam Mathews The Dum Dum Girls perfected their brand of '60s-girl-group-meets-'80s-new-wave a while ago, and now they just keep cranking out sparkly art-goth pop songs like "Rimbaud Eyes" like even sexier Strokes. In this new video, the Batman theme song composers get a cartoon of their own. Dazed Digital accurately compared the video to James Bond title sequences and Jem and the Holograms, but it's sexier and more alluring than those comparisons let on. The video was directed by musician and artist Tamaryn and animated by VFX whiz Gooby Herms. "Rimbaud Eyes" is from Dum Dum Girls' album Too True. Images via Sub [...]...

When Aj McCarron asked longtime girlfriend Katherine Webb for her hand in marriage, he pulled out all the stops to ensure it was a day the lovebirds would never forget. A source reveals exclusively to E! News that the 23-year-old star quarterback was planning and organizing "for a while" to pop the question, and the special occasion was truly a family affair. The intricate plan included enlisting some necessary help from his mom Dee Dee in order to trick the brunette beauty to make sure everything went according to plan at The Beach Club, a Spectrum Resorts property, in Gulf Shores, Alabama. "Aj and his mom told her they had to be on property for a benefit," the source explained. "It...

As you might surmise from recent gigs that include a still mysterious project for Kanye West, and Manson family TV series with Rob Zombie, "American Psycho" and "The Canyons" writer Bret Easton Ellis doesn't pen anything safe or easily digestible. And even when it comes to writing a short film for noise-pop outfit Dum Dum Girls, the result is appropriately surreal, eerie and creepy. The Sub Pop band has dropped "Are You Okay," an eleven-minute short film penned by Ellis, starring frontwoman Dee Dee Penny and Shiloh Fernandez, and directed by Brewer (no, not Craig Brewer, just Brewer). And it's a twisted little psychological thriller that starts with a therapy session and goes to some places that you'd probably just be better off watching yourself, but stick through to the end when it really dials up intensity. Didn't have your morning cup of coffee? This will provide the jolt you need.

There's just one band left to meet properly on The Big Reunion - yes, it's time for 3T to step up to the plate with talk of their aunt's nipples, being a Jackson and intense games of Pictionary. Yes, yes, they had the Jackson connection, but seriously - in 1996 they were ranked second only to the Spice Girls as the biggest-selling group in Europe. That's intense. Of course, it basically ran in their veins, and there was super cute home video footage of them as children having a go at the old music thing.

After watching some Hollywood Hillbillies we knew we just had to learn more about these people, and we figured the best way to do that was to round them up and fire some questions at them. Here's what we learned about Mema and Aunt Dee Dee.
Q&A with Mema
Reelz: Will you ever get married again?
Mema: I will never get married again… I don’t want to cook for anybody, I don’t want to wash for anybody and I certainly don’t want to have sex with anybody. If anybody pulled anything on me to have sex with, I would bite it off. I don’t want to do that.
Reelz: If you could give one piece of advice to the people of California, what would it be?
Mema: Gain weight. Quit eating healthy. Quit sleeping with your dog. Quit cutting your grass. Quit putting the calories on the menus.

Animal kingdom counter-programming ruled Super Bowl Sunday as viewers had a choice between three cable specials, each more adorable than the last: Animal Planet’s veteran Puppy Bowl, Hallmark Channel’s newcomer rival Kitten Bowl and NatGeo’s sarcastic freshman Fish Bowl (which is, yup, mainly just a fish swimming in a bowl). Here’s how they ranked:

Kitten Bowl: Kittens. Lots and lots of tiny kittens; 71 of them.

In the 1960s, super-heroics were such the rage that ever era seemed to inspire a masked champion for Saturday morning fare. We had the Mighty Mightor who could been seen as an ancestor to his comedic counterpart, Captain Caveman, which also reflects the shift from dramatic fun to slapstick comedy (also showing how parents boxed in the animators).

It ran from 1977 through 1980 in ABC and the complete 40 episode series is now available on a three-disc set from Warner Archive. The series started off sandwiched as a part of Scooby’s All-Star Laff-a-Lympics and Scooby’s All-Stars before gaining their own thirty minute slot. The star of a viral YouTube video called "Gingers do have souls!!" is getting his own reality show. ReelzChannel announced "Hollywood Hilbillies" at its TCA press tour presentation Sunday (July 28).
Michael Kittrell's three-minute heated video response to an episode of "South Park," in which he bemoans being called a "fat ginger," garnered more than 34 million YouTube views, and was parodied may times over. Even the writers of "South Park" took notice and responded back with a clip of their own, animating Michael and some of the famous lines from his rant, including, "It really irritates me when people say that redheads don't have souls. Because we do have souls alright?" And: "I go to church. I'm a Christian. You don't know me. You're not God."

Kittrell is known as "The Angry Ginger" on YouTube, where a video he made to protest a "South Park" episode that claimed redheads have no soul gained attention.

Mickey Mouse Club favourite who appeared with Frankie Avalon in 60s Beach Party musicals
Annette Funicello, who has died of complications from multiple sclerosis aged 70, was instantly associated with two names: Mickey Mouse and Frankie Avalon, both of whom were squeaky clean. As a child, Funicello was one of the first Mouseketeers on the original Mickey Mouse Club, the hugely popular Walt Disney children's television programme. In her early 20s, Funicello co-starred with the pop singer Avalon in five "Beach Party" musicals, in which they played wholesome "teenage" sweethearts called Dee Dee and Frankie, always testing each other's fidelity.
Born in Utica, New York, Funicello took ballet dancing lessons as a child to overcome shyness. In 1955, some years after her family had moved to southern California, the 12-year-old was chosen by Disney himself from 200 children auditioning for the first season of the Mickey Mouse Club. From 1955 to 1957, she danced, sang...

First it was Roger Ebert, then this morning Margaret Thatcher, and now it's the sweet Annette Funicello, one of the best-known members of the original 1950s Mickey Mouse Club, the original Mouseketeer, has passed away. She was 70.
The Annette Funicello Research Fund for Neurological Diseases Inc. posted on Facebook this sad news.
She was just 12 when Mister Disney himself handpicked her to be one of the original Mouseketeers. She quickly became one of the most popular members. Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Co. called Funicello a "true Disney Legend." Awwww....
Funicello also tried acting in movies with her first role as Frankie Avalon's marriage-minded sweetheart named Dolores (Dee Dee for short) in the 1963 flick "Beach Party." Chicago – The “Soup Nazi” is in Chicago. Actor Larry Thomas – who memorably portrayed that character on two episodes of “Seinfeld” – has a role in the new Chicago-based independent film “You Don’t Say!” directed by local veteran filmmaker Robert Alaniz. “You Don’t Say!” premieres on Saturday, April 6th, at the historic Patio Theater in Chicago, with a red carpet and after-film Q&A.
“You Don’t Say!” is Robert Alaniz’s sixth feature film, all independently produced through his Sole Productions company. It’s a comedy about a female corporate climber (Julia Chereson) who gets a mysterious necklace from her boyfriend (Gary Gow), and unknowingly begins to tell the unvarnished truth during a delicate merger between her office and another company. A man named Andy Millen was at the center of the first of two back-to-back special installments of Howie Mandel's flash mob series "Mobbed." The 75-year-old fire chief from Ohio was honored by his daughter, Missy, with a special surprise. He may not be a well-known celebrity to her, but he's a "hero" to her and many others -- and one in particular that night.
While he'd saved countless lives throughout his years with the fire department, he was still haunted by the one life he couldn't save: Missy's sister, Dee Dee. She died in a car accident in 1991, but that wasn't the end of her story. Dee Dee was an organ donor, and a transplant 21 years ago saved the life of another woman. For the first time, Andy was introduced to that woman, Lea.

In what she calls a “wo-mance,” an alternative—or maybe an antidote?—to the bromance, Carrie Preston (so delightful as an actress in shows like True Blood and The Good Wife) directs an unattractive portrait of single womanhood. Dee Dee (Anne Heche), Bebe (Marcia DeBonis) and Clementine (Alia Shawkat) are whiny, bitchy and grossly inappropriate, grotesque caricatures rather than women you’d actually want to be friends with. That seems to be the point, though: On your worst days, it’s your girlfriends who still love you....

Actress Anne Heche stars in an all-female cast comedy indie film “That’s What She Said.”
The film is about a friendship bond between three women with their personal relationship problems and being single women in New York City.
It is based off a play “Girl Talk” written by Kellie Overbey and directed by “True Blood” actress Carrie Preston.
Latino-Review joined in a telephone conference roundtable discussion with Heche to discuss “That’s What She Said.” The actress discussed the importance of female relationships, friendships and how she got involved with the project.
“That’s What She Said” is a limited release in theaters this weekend.
Question: What attracted you to this project?
Anne Heche: Carrie Preston really said it best, because she talked about this movie really being about friendship. And I think this movie is about friendship in your darkest day in your darkest hour. And learning...

‘That’s What She Said’ is 110% chick flick. Definitely not the type you would want to drag a guy to either. Unless you want to hear complaints the entire time, if you decide to watch it.
The movie begins by introducing Dee Dee played by Anne Heche who lives a promiscuous life after being in a seven year relationship. Although still being intoxicated from the night before she manages to drags herself out of bed to meet her best friend Bebe at the local coffee shop. Bebe is played by Marcia DeBonis, who is excited about a potential new love interest. Bebe is a bit of a naive, hopeless romantic bubble head who is suppose to go on a date that evening. Dee Dee on the contrary has the man hating attitude and has a gut feeling about her best friends potential new beau.

Friendship has its privileges. And its drawbacks.
Both of these realities are on display in the indie comedy, That's What She Said, in wide release this week after a buzz-creating turn at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. The film, helmed by actress turned director Carrie Preston (29 and Gay) and adapted for the screen by Kellie Overbay from her original stage play, stars Anne Heche, Marcia DeBonis and Alia Shawkat as three, New York single ladies who stumble, crumble and find common ground with each other during a day and night of misadventure.
Of the trio, Bebe (Debonis) and Dee Dee (Heche) are fast friends despite their alphabetically ordered names and the polar opposition of their worldviews. Naturally, the biggest divide for this pair are their views on men and relationships. Bebe is the hopeless romantic, believing that she's found the man of her dreams after just a few phone calls and handful of dates.

In my mind, there are only two Dexters on television: our favorite serial killer, and the little boy mad scientist. Someone has finally mashed them up.
In "Dexter Morgan's Laboratory," the good people over at Screen Junkies mashed up a property you are definitely familiar with (Dexter) and one you might not be familiar with (Dexter's Laboratory.) For the uninitiated, Dexter's Laboratory was a Cartoon Network cartoon about a little boy / mad scientist named Dexter (who had an inexplicable but delightful German accent) and his super-happy, super-annoying sister Dee Dee, who was always messing up his experiments.
The similarities are obvious. Anyway, enjoy "Dexter Morgan's Laboratory."
