Climate change is getting worse day after day, and every uncomfortable conversation we’ve been putting off for decides is waiting for us just over the horizon. Caitlin Cronenberg’s debut feature Humane dives headfirst into that messy, chaotic crisis we’ve built for ourselves, in a chamber piece that has one affluent family forced to make the ultimate decision. It’s a classic thriller set-up with a premise ripped from the headlines of tomorrow’s newspaper, and a great cast of character actors ready to rip each other apart as soon as shit hits the fan.
The world of Humane is not unlike our own. With dwindling resources and increasingly inhabitable conditions, it’s like looking 5 minutes into the future. A future where fresh vegetable and meats are prohibited, and standing for any length of time in direct sunlight with no protection is practically a death sentence. But in...

"For humanity to survive, 20% of the population must volunteer to die" in Humane, the feature film directorial debut of Caitlin Cronenberg. An exploration of the lethal lengths humanity (and one family in particular) will take to preserve itself in the face of a worldwide ecological disaster, Humane is now playing in select theaters via IFC Films, and in a new video interview, Daily Dead recently had the pleasure of catching up with Caitlin Cronenberg and co-stars Emily Hampshire and Jay Baruchel to discuss their ambitious new film, including its massive global scale, its exploration of dysfunctional family dynamics, and the Clue-esque mansion where much of the movie takes place.
Directed by Caitlin Cronenberg and written and produced by Michael Sparaga, Humane stars Jay Baruchel, Emily Hampshire, Enrico Colantoni, Sebastian Chacon, Sirena Gulamgaus, Alanna Bale, and Peter Gallagher.
Synopsis: Humane takes place over a single day, mere months after a global...

At the height of the pandemic lockdown, fans of USA’s 2002–09 hit Monk asked series creator Andy Breckman how his lovable and germaphobic private homicide investigator Adrian Monk would cope during Covid. Breckman responded with a four-minute featurette. The clip reunited the show’s star, multiple Emmy winner Tony Shalhoub, with Monk’s posse: his assistant Natalie (Traylor Howard) and cops Randy Disher (Jason Gray-Stanford) and Leland Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine). Peacock loved it, and 14 years after the final episode, the much-missed character returns in Breckman and executive producer David Hoberman’s original film, Monk’s Last Case. (Credit: Steve Wilkie/Peacock ) Why last? “In the movie, Monk has a pretty serious existential crisis,” says Breckman. “We wanted to make clear that the stakes were as high as they could be for the character.” Greatly depressed during the pandemic and obsessively missing his late wife Trudy, he hid in his house,...

John R. Leonetti focused his lens on a haunted doll in The Conjuring spinoff film Annabelle, and his next film will highlight the horrors of a music box with the powers to grant even the most gruesome of your wishes. You can see the antique’s deadly effects teased in the new trailer for Wish Upon, which co-stars Shannon Purser, who played Barb in Stranger Things.
“Twelve years after discovering her mother’s suicide, 17-year-old Clare Shannon (Joey King) is bullied in high school, embarrassed by her manic, hoarder father Jonathan (Ryan Phillippe) and ignored by her longtime crush. All that changes when her father comes home with an old music box whose inscription promises to grant its owner seven wishes. While Clare is initially skeptical of this magic box, she can’t help but be seduced by its dark powers, and is thrilled as her life radically improves with each wish.

When Lou Adler, producer of the original Rocky Horror Picture Show, began work on a TV remake of the film, he wasn't quite sure what would fly on a major TV network. Neither were fans of the 1975 original, some of whom wrote him to say they were worried the whole thing would be ruined by censorship. This was one of the most beloved cult movies of all time, one which featured Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick prancing around in their underwear and sleeping with its murderous protagonist Dr. Frank-n-Furter, a...

The Rocky Horror Picture Show has officially been revamped — emphasis on the vamp.
Laverne Cox, who’s stepping into Tim Curry‘s famous fishnets to play the singing-and-dancing lead in Fox’s new reimagining of the 1975 cult classic, is the first to admit the chance to take on the iconic role was too good to pass up.
“Dr. Frank-n-Furter is beautifully flawed and deliciously evil and sexy. I’ve just never gotten to play a part like this before,” the Orange Is the New Black Star told People on the Toronto set of the remake.

Laverne Cox only had one reservation when she joined the cast of Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do The Time Warp Again as Dr. Frank-n-Furter. More specifically, one word.
In the TV movie remake, Cox performs the song “Sweet Transvestite,” and talked to reporters at Variety‘s Power of Women Luncheon about her thoughts on the term “transvestite.”
“That was the only apprehension I really had about doing the film was the term transvestite,” she said. “I’ve been telling people, ‘Please do not go up to a transgender person in 2016 and call them a transvestite, that is an antiquated term.

Lost Girl is returning to Syfy on Friday, April 17th, for its fifth, and final season, and its time to get excited for the return of Bo.
I got a chance to talk with Anna Silk recently, and it was quite the adventure trying to get any information out of her about the season. Syfy fans who are hot for spoilers will know that since the show has aired already in Canada, it probably isn’t too hard to find out some information, but Anna stuck to her guns about not giving things away… except for one little hint, and a few vague suggestions.
The show obviously lives and dies with Bo, and Silk’s ability to bring the kind of charisma to the character that helps to suck in audiences, and it was a treat to talk with her. Transcripts never do an interview justice, and I have to tell you,...

Every July, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announces the year's primetime Emmy nominations, and every time, predictable outrage pours forth over the Academy's supposedly faulty judgment. Of course, now that we're living in the supposed new golden age of television, it's hard to argue against any of the Academy's choices. Then again, the abundance of stellar performances in well-written, sharply directed shows means that, inevitably, some favorites will be left out and that not everyone will be happy with the names that did make the cut. Here, then, is Moviefone's list of surprises and snubs from the 2014 Emmy nominations.
Surprises:
Kate McKinnon and Fred Armisen -- Sketch players rarely get nominated, in part because it's hard to single them out from their ensemble casts. But Armisen is half the ensemble on "Portlandia" by himself, while McKinnon was a clear standout this season on "Saturday Night Live" for her...

Syfy’s Warehouse 13 is getting their Star Trek parallels on, next generation style, bringing in Brent Spiner to guest star when the show returns next month for its season 4 premiere on July 23rd. Spiner is locked in for at least six episodes next season as Adrian, the head of a Vatican connected Knights Templar group that Artie (Saul Rubinek) finds him and his team against after the event of the season 3 finale.

The second season of Warehouse 13 is drawing to a close—the finale airs next Tuesday, September 21. But before that, tonight's episode features Lindsay Wagner, of Bionic Woman fame, in her second appearance as Dr. Vanessa Calder, the physician and old flame of Warehouse boss, Artie.
In a recent conference call interview, Wagner revealed that when she got the call to do the part, she had never seen the show. So she went online and brushed up on her Warehouse 13.
She said she, "Found it to be just a really fun concept. Very creative. And, the visuals—the way it’s shot and the chemistry of the actors just really impressed me. It’s really fun. And in its own way, very current and very today, but it felt a lot to me like The Bionic Woman which is what attracted me to want...
