NCIS stars Gary Cole, Katrina Law and Brian Dietzen had a lot to say about the hit CBS show’s upcoming Season 21 finale while speaking with Deadline at the CBS’ Fall Schedule Celebration in Hollywood last night.
There’s panic in the fandom as things seem set up for the possible demise of Cole’s Alton Parker and Law’s Jessica Knight in the May 6 episode titled “Reef Madness.” Written by Scott Williams and directed by José Clemente Hernandez, the season finale follows Parker and Knight as they discover three bodies on an old Navy ship that’s about to be sunk and turned into an artificial reef but end suddenly locked inside by a mysterious figure.
Cole shared some words of encouragement for viewers on the red carpet.

CBS is continuing to fill out its roster for the 2024-25 season.
The network has picked up two of its Monday night staples, The Neighborhood and NCIS, for next season. The renewals will take The Neighborhood into its seventh season and NCIS to its 22nd. With Young Sheldon ending this season, The Neighborhood will also become CBS’ longest-running current comedy series.
The pickups for NCIS and The Neighborhood come hours after CBS renewed its FBI franchise — including a three-season order for the flagship series — for next season. The network has also renewed Fire Country, Ghosts, and first-year dramas NCIS: Sydney and Tracker for next season. The second half of Blue Bloods‘ final season is also set to air in the fall.

“NCIS” and “The Neighborhood” have both been renewed at CBS.
The renewal will bring “NCIS” to its 22nd season, while “The Neighborhood” will be back for its seventh season. Both shows currently air on Mondays on the broadcast network.
“’The Neighborhood’ and ‘NCIS’ are the very best definition of a CBS comedy and drama,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “They embody authentic storytelling with heart, humor, and family dynamics. We are proud to bring them back next season.”
“NCIS” has long been a cornerstone of the CBS scripted lineup. Per CBS, the series is still averaging 12.9 million multiplatform viewers, even this late in its run. The show serves as the foundation for a TV franchise that continues to pay off for CBS and parent company Paramount. CBS also currently airs “NCIS: Hawaii” while “NCIS: Sydney” airs on Paramount+ and CBS. CBS is also at work on a prequel...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for NCIS Season 21 Episode 2 “The Stories We Leave Behind.”] The NCIS team said goodbye to their beloved colleague and friend Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard in the touching February 19 episode that also honored the late David McCallum, who played the wise medical examiner (and later NCIS historian) beginning in the 2003 series premiere. “The cold open scene where Jimmy comes in and finds Ducky [who has died in his sleep], man, I was just a bucket of tears,” confesses Brian Dietzen, who plays medical examiner Jimmy Palmer, Ducky’s longtime mentee, as part of our aftershow, NCIS: Case Closed. Dietzen co-wrote the episode with NCIS writer Scott Williams. But grieving agents — and fans — got a happy surprise in the episode’s final moments with the appearance of Tony Dinozzo, played by Michael Weatherly, who departed the series in 2016. He showed up to comfort Jimmy. Dinozzo fastening a trademark Ducky bow tie around his friend’s neck ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for NCIS Season 21 Episode 2 “The Stories We Leave Behind.”] NCIS pays tribute to the late David McCallum and his character, Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, in the latest episode, which also marks a significant last for the show: his appearance in the opening credits. TV Insider has confirmed that’s the last time McCallum will be part of that sequence. The opening credits had a twist for his tribute episode, co-written by Scott Williams Brian Dietzen (whose Dr. Jimmy Palmer started out as Ducky’s assistant and is now the chief medical examiner), who features in our NCIS aftershow, NCIS: Case Closed, to break down everything that happened, including that surprising ending. Rather than the usual theme we’ve been hearing for now over 20 seasons—and you can dance to—the music was slowed down for this special tribute episode. “We were struggling with that, I’ll be real honest, because coming...

Saying goodbye to Ducky was difficult for his colleagues at NCIS and viewers.
The current incarnation of the NCIS Major Crimes Response Team bid farewell to longtime medical examiner Donald "Ducky" Mallard on NCIS Season 21 Episode 2.
But only about half of this squad really knew Dr. Mallard, who started fading into retirement about four seasons ago: Jimmy Palmer (his protege), Kasie Hines (his scribe), and Tim McGee, the only agent to go back nearly as far as he did.
That isn't to say the rest of them didn't know and respect the legend of Ducky. But of those, only Nick Torres and Director Vance had much professional overlap with him.
Otherwise, Ducky was that cool old guy who would stop by and maybe consult when he wasn't busy with a book tour or a teaching job. And let's not forget his official role as NCIS historian, combining two of his passions.

Brian Dietzen’s Jimmy Palmer is now the chief medical examiner on “NCIS,” having taken over that function as the character’s mentor, David McCallum’s Ducky character, slid into an emeritus role a few seasons ago. When McCallum died in September, it fell into Dietzen’s real-life lap to become something of a grief examiner, as he took on the duty of co-writing a farewell salute to Ducky — and to David — along with one of the series’ longtime executive producers, Scott Williams.
The tribute episode they came up with, “The Stories We Leave Behind,” airs Monday night on CBS. For many longtime viewers, Ducky’s memorial will be, well, tearducty, as elder fans, especially, remember not just McCallum’s two-decade run on the top dramatic series of the 21st century but a lifetime of roles stretching back to the actor’s star-making 1960s co-lead part on “The Man From U.N.C.L.E....

Brian Dietzen had a tall order when it came to the latest NCIS episode he cowrote with Scott Williams: the tribute to Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard and the actor who played him, the late David McCallum. But it’s one the two were more than ready to take on. “When you lose someone very close, you can fall into just crying and mourning continually, and while we wanted to pay homage to him, we didn’t want that to be it,” Dietzen tells TV Insider ahead of the February 19 episode. “We wanted to celebrate the fun times as well, and we wanted to celebrate the amazing work that this great actor did on our show and also honor the character that he created. And I think both those people, the character and the actor, would love to see us continuing on and honoring him through continuing to do good work.

In the second-season "Bones" episode "The Truth in the Lye," Bones and Booth (Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz) examine a dead body that ... well, it isn't really a body anymore. Arriving at a construction site, they find a bathtub full of squishy human remains, half-melted in a soup of chemicals. Although "Bones" was a network TV series, the camera lingers on the human soup for a few disgusting moments so audiences can see the skin, blood, and organs in their viscous state. Booth is completely grossed out, while Bones, in her usual idiom, calmly begins reciting forensic details into her tape recorder.
It will eventually be revealed that the soup man was once a cad who was living a double life, splitting time between two families that didn't (at least until recently) know about each other. He was melted with a combination of household chemicals.

NCIS fans miss Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs, and we’re all anxiously waiting to see if Harmon is interested in rejoining the series. Harmon was a staple in the show; the other actors love and miss working with him. And he once gave his honest opinion on one NCIS Thanksgiving episode. Here’s what he shared.
Mark Harmon said he ‘loved the script’ for this ‘NCIS’ Thanksgiving episode
The NCIS Thanksgiving episode, “Turkey Trot,” aired in 2022 after Mark Harmon left the series. The episode was co-written by actor Diona Reasonover, known for playing forensic scientist Kasie Hines since season 16. She approached NCIS with the idea of the episode, and while they didn’t like it at first, she persisted.
“I bothered [executive producer] Scott Williams, who wrote Kasie’s first episode, and I said, ‘I love your writing. I’d love to write with you if you’d let me.

Jim Lee, the superstar artist-turned-publisher of DC, has added the title president to his growing list of executive designations.
Lee, re-upping his deal with DC, has been promoted to president as well as publisher and Cco of the comic book company, which is part of Warner Bros. Discovery.
The executive will continue to report to Pam Lifford, president of global brands, franchises and experiences at Warner Bros. Discovery, who announced the promotion Wednesday.
Lee, per the company, will continue in his primary role as publisher at DC, where he leads the creative teams. He will also continue to lead the creative efforts to integrate DC’s publishing portfolio of characters and stories across all media, supporting the brands and studios of Wbd.
Lee, one of the most recognizable names in comics, has been a reassuring presence at DC as the company has navigated choppy corporate waters that would give even Aquaman the shivers.

NCIS, Season 10, Episode 21: “Berlin”
Written by Scott Williams and Gina Lucita Monreal
Directed by Terrence O’Hara
Airs Tuesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
The hunt for Bodnar continues as Ziva and Tony fly under the radar to follow a lead to Germany while Gibbs gets acquainted with Mossad’s new director, who has some secrets of her own.
This episode picks up steam in more ways than one since it deviates from the show structure to continue the search for Ilan Bodnar overseas, bringing momentum to a tiring chase by giving Tony and Ziva a chance at intimacy as they get closer to Bodnar and increasing the pressure on the team as the newly-appointed Director of Mossad (Marina Sirtis) arrives for a joint investigation. The return of Director Morrow of Homeland Security (special guest Alan Dale) adds even more drama as the three agencies try to solve the murder of a Mossad agent.

NCIS, Season 10, Episode 18: “Seek”

There is no doubt that Michael Weatherly is a showman. Along with acting, singing, and the occasional comical impression, Weatherly is also proving to be a capable director, returning to the helm for the second time, having directed the eighth season episode, “One Last Score”. Once again, Weatherly brings the same energy usually seen onscreen with him behind the camera.
The opening and closing scenes with Dex, a bomb-sniffing labrador, and his handler provide powerful bookend moments, depicting the loyalty of service dogs to their working partners and their families, shown here as one and the same. The handler’s death is made all the more devastating through witness statements that express his love and respect for the dog in his charge. The episode is a testament to the importance...

You can never go wrong putting a dog into the star seat in any TV episode. And Dexter filled the role especially well in "Seek," a NCIS story about a K9 expert who was killed by a sniper after saving a child from a Taliban mine field in Afghanistan.
As it turned out, the murdered Marine's widow was correct in her suspicion that he was not killed by the Taliban, which the NCIS team was able to figure out with the limited number of clues it obtained.
The dead Marine - Ted Lemere - had been using his canine to help some contractors clear some empty buildings of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), not realizing they were searching for loot left behind by Afghanis who had previously fled from the Taliban.

NCIS, Season 10, Episode 8: “Gone”
Written by Reed Steiner and Scott Williams
Directed by James Whitmore, Jr.
Airs Tuesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
When season ten was still shrouded in mystery, a fresh new year waiting to arrive, there was plenty of hopeful speculation concerning possible stories that might unfold throughout the upcoming episodes. One popular hypothetical was the pairing of Abby and Ziva in an undercover mission. While they aren’t technically undercover, Abby and Ziva come the closest to a professional partnership that they will likely ever get for the remainder of the season.
Ziva takes it upon herself to act as a surrogate to Lydia Wade (Kirsten Prout), a teenage girl whose father was murdered during the kidnapping of her best friend, Rosie. Abby and Ziva both work with Lydia to help her identify the men responsible. Where Cote de Pablo’s performance lacked an emotional...

NCIS, Season 10, Episode 2: “Recovery”
Written by Scott Williams
Directed by Dennis Smith
Airs Tuesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
The latest installment of the CBS procedural starts off with what may be an intentional reference to the beginning of the Halloween season. Abby Scuito is having nightmares after the bombing, which is not surprising since she has always been the character noted with having the greatest emotional depth. Her feelings about the unsettling apparitions and well-meaning pressure from Gibbs forces her to face her fear of rejection and seek out her biological brother Kyle (the well-cast Daniel Louis Rivera, who appropriately bears an uncanny resemblance to Abby’s alter-ego, Pauley Perrette).
The two initially met last season; however, Kyle was unaware that the woman perusing his pet shop was in fact his own flesh and blood, a long-lost sister. The two high-energy actors play well together, they have enthusiasm to spare,...

It’s that time again… okay, it’s a little past that normal time, thanks to the Mix March Madness wrapup, but here are the preview materials for DC Comics releases for July 2012.
What’s on tap this month? More of the Before Watchmen books, with the debut of Ozymandias from Len Wein and Jae Lee, the conclusion of the Court of Owls storyline and crossover in all the Bat-books, and the debut of the done-in-one book, National Comics, featuring the New 52 Debut (coming right at you) of Eternity.
And in the white elephant of desire category, there’s the $300 statue showing the climactic scene from The Dark Knight Returns.
Once more, into the breach? Banzai!
As always, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.
