"You stand on the sideline too long, the game is gonna be over." Paramount Movies has revealed an official trailer for a psychological thriller titled Shadow Land, being dropped on VOD this summer. The latest from the same stuntman filmmaker behind Air Force One Down before. Haunted by relentless nightmares foretelling his untimely demise, Former President Robert Wainwright summons his past psychiatrist to his upstate residence who discovers the threat may be more real than imagined. With his trusted advisor, they embark on a mission to uncover the truth, navigating a dangerous path that could end up exposing a global crisis. This sounds like a completely crazy nonsensical script that is might be trying to comment on current events. But anyone with half a brain can see right through the Bs. Starring Jon Voight, Marton Csokas, Rhona Mitra, Philip Winchester, and Sean Maguire. It looks much more kooky than it does thrilling.

One of the best feelings in the world is discovering a series or a movie that you didn’t know about and realizing how distinct it is from anything else out there. Since working at JoBlo.com, I have been lucky enough to come across several series that I enjoyed and got to tell you about them. Sometimes, I am lucky enough to talk to the talent involved about the project and how it came to be. Such is the case with the new Peacock series, Leopard Skin. After watching the excellent series Jett, creator/director Sebastian Gutierrez and star Carla Gugino were kind enough to let me know about their latest project, this half-hour crime series that debuted on Peacock recently (check out our review).
Leopard Skin can be categorized as a heist series, a thriller, a drama, or any number of labels but it thrives by not being locked down to one genre.

At a time when so many crime thrillers tend toward the dark, gritty and prestige-minded, Peacock’s Leopard Skin stands out for being none of those things. While its setup sounds typical enough for the genre — a botched heist, terrified hostages, secrets and standoffs and betrayals — its execution proves to be anything but.
Created, written and directed by Sebastian Gutierrez (Jett), this series dances backward and forward in time, taking leisurely detours down semi-random rabbit holes and flights of fancy. It rarely misses an opportunity to admire the beauty of the (frequently unclothed) female form, or to plug into the crackling tension, amorous or otherwise, coursing between its characters. It’s ostensibly a drama, but one studded with oddball jokes.
All these excesses are held together not with airtight plotting, but through a hazy dream logic that at times feels downright opaque. As such,...

There is more beneath the surface of Leopard Skin. This a fact that drew Carla Gugino to the upcoming new Peacock series from Sebastian Gutierrez. The two last worked together on the short-lived Jett. Here the Haunting of Hill House star plays Alba, a documentarian who along with Batista “Batty” (Gaite Jansen), is paid an unexpected visit by a band of criminals. Fleeing a diamond heist gone wrong, they take the women as hostages and use the beachside estate as their safe refuge. Things continue to go awry when dinner guests, Max (Philip Winchester), Maru (Amelia Eve), and the estate’s former housekeeper, Inocencia (Ana de la Reguera) appear. Layers of this story are peeled back from flashbacks to the present day. Secrets are uncovered and questions are answered (Jeffrey Dean Morgan!) for everyone involved right up until the last of the eight episodes. We caught up with Gugino about...

Variety has been given exclusive access to the first-look images from Neil Marshall’s action crime thriller “Duchess,” starring British actor Charlotte Kirk, who was linked to the downfall of two Hollywood moguls. Principal photography is in its third week on the movie, which is shooting in Tenerife.
The film is co-written by Marshall and Kirk, the creative duo behind “The Lair,” which opens London’s horror and fantasy film festival Frightfest next month.
Marshall’s credits include “Game of Thrones,” for which he received an Emmy nomination, “The Descent,” for which he won best director at the British Independent Film Awards, and, most recently, 2019’s “Hellboy” and 2020’s “The Reckoning,” which also starred and was co-written by Kirk.
Kirk became front-page news in Hollywood after her extramarital affairs with Kevin Tsujihara, at that time CEO of Warner Bros., and Ron Meyer, the then vice chairman of NBCUniversal, led to their dismissals.

When American oil executive Jack (Philip Winchester) and his wife Lauren (Rebecca Romijn) go on safari with their college-age kids Noah (Michael Johnston) and Zoe and Zoe's boyfriend Billy (Chris Fisher), it's not long before someone mentions the "Big Five" - rhino, lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo. Keen film-spotters might also like to look out for the survival movie Big Five - a fractious group going somewhere they shouldn't, an accident, a wounded member of the party, no phone signal and a long-standing condition that requires now-destroyed medication.

The serious anti-poaching message of this savanna-set family drama gets lost in the comic register of a US sitcom
The days of Africa-set films featuring white protagonists using glowing savannas as set dressing for first-world problems seemed to be numbered, but hold on: here is a fist-bitingly self-regarding family drama with Philip Winchester and X-Men’s Rebecca Romijn as Jack and Lauren Halsey, a seemingly dream couple off on a dream safari with son Noah and daughter Zoe, and her pothead boyfriend Billy. “Penny for them,” Lauren actually says to Jack, as they are Cessna-ing in. What is on this buff oilman’s mind, though, is that he has just been put on extended leave following an industrial accident.
His secret soon spills too, and Jack is so desperate to please his wife that he ignores safari-park protocol and lets them get too close to the fauna: a female rhinoceros and calf.

Mj Basset has always been a conservationist, beginning her career as a wildlife photographer and documentary filmmaker before making the jump to narrative features including Deathwatch, Solomon Kane and Silent Hill: Revelation. Over the past decade, Basset has shifted almost exclusively to working in television but of late, she's returned to feature filmmaking, mixing her passion for conservation with her other love: action movies.
This mixing of passions stared with last year's Rogue and continues with Endangered Species. The new feature stars Basset regular Philip Winchester and Rebecca Romijn as Jack and Lauren Halsey, a well-to-do American couple who take the family on a dream vacation to Kenya. Oscar-winner Al Pacino and Meadow Williams star in American Traitor: The Trial of Axis Sally, the historical drama hitting select theaters this Memorial Day weekend via Vertical Entertainment and Redbox Entertainment. Michael Polish directed the film, which is based on a true story and follows the life of American woman Mildred Gillars (Williams) and her lawyer (Pacino), who struggle to redeem her reputation.
Dubbed “Axis Sally” for broadcasting Nazi propaganda to American troops during World War II, Mildred’s story exposes the dark underbelly of the Third Reich’s hate-filled propaganda machine, her eventual capture in Berlin, and subsequent trial for treason against the United States after the war.
Mitch Pileggi, Thomas Kretschmann, Lala Kent, Carsten Norgaard, and Swen Temmel round out the cast. The pic, which is based on William E. Owen’s novel, Axis Sally Confidential, is also available on-demand. William and Vance Owen’s book Axis Sally Confidential,...

The other family-imperiled-by-rampaging-beasts movie this weekend, “Endangered Species” is different from “A Quiet Place Part II” in many ways, particularly in that its characters cannot stop yakking — with corresponding diminished viewer concern for their survival under extreme duress. Mj Bassett’s South African-produced thriller has a vacationing American clan doing all the wrong things in a Kenyan wildlife preserve. Needless to say, the local fauna quickly notice there are some fresh snacks on the savanna, to our protagonists’ grief.
The squabbling human dynamics make this outdoor suspense exercise one in which too soon we start rooting for the four-legged cast members. Slick and scenic but increasingly silly, by the end it has become perhaps the most preachily wrong-headed wildlife conservation adventure since the notorious “Roar” 40 years ago. Lionsgate is releasing to digital, VOD and limited theaters, with Blu-ray and DVD following on June 1.

Writer/director Mj Bassett brought together her passion for filmmaking and natural history with 2020's Rogue and she's continuing down that track, this time with what appears to be a much larger budget, in Endangered Species.
Rebecca Romijn and Philip Winchester star as Lauren and Jack Halsey, a pair of wealthy Americans that decide to up the ante on their holiday by taking the family to Africa. The pair and their two children get more than they ever bargained for when an off-road adventure leaves the group stranded in the African desert with no car, cell signal, or water.
As if braving the elements and the wild animals isn't already bad enough, things get even worse for the family when they're picked up by a group of poachers led by Mitch Hanover (Jerry O'Connell).

M.J. Bassett knows how to pack a punch in a short amount of time. After her 2012 psychological horror film, Silent Hill: Revelation, underperformed critically and commercially, Bassett received an email from her friend and former collaborator Philip Winchester about directing Cinemax’s high-octane action series Strike Back. The exchange led to a meeting with the show’s producers, and within a couple years, Bassett had successfully revitalized her career as an “in-house” director on television’s most action-packed series. From there, Bassett was able to apply her skill set of creating cinematic action set pieces on a TV schedule to other genre shows including ...

For Rogue, co-writer/director Mj Bassett is taking audiences into some beautifully remote areas in Africa where a group of mercenaries, led by Megan Fox, must try and free a group of hostages from a dangerous group of warlords. This mission doesn’t go exactly as planned, and after the team finds themselves stranded in an abandoned lion farm, they must try and survive against the dangerous group of criminals hot on their trails as well as a lioness who has her own agenda.
Earlier this week, Daily Dead had the pleasure of speaking with Bassett about her latest film project, and she discussed how the idea for the film was born out of her own passion for wildlife. Bassett also talked about the challenges she faced during the film’s ambitious shoot in South Africa, her experiences collaborating with Megan Fox and more.

"Rogue" is the new action adventure, directed by M.J. Bassett, starring Megan Fox, Philip Winchester and Calli Taylor:
"...a small mercenary unit of soldiers are contracted by the governor of an African country to rescue his daughter who has been kidnapped.
"This unit go in," said director Bassett. "There's more than one girl so their plan is immediately compromised, and their extraction goes wrong. So, suddenly they find themselves on the run from the bad guys, looking for refuge in Africa, and come across an abandoned farm, or they think it's abandoned. While they're hunkering down they realize that the farm was used as a poachers' stronghold and a breeding place for lions for the hunting industry and the East Asian medicinal market.

"Some lions go rogue... She likes to kill." Lionsgate has released an official trailer for an action movie titled Rogue, the latest from director M.J. Bassett. Megan Fox stars in this "explosive action saga" as a battle-hardened mercenary. As team leader O'Hara, she leads a lively squad of soldiers on a daring mission: rescue a hostage from captors in a remote region of Africa. But when the mission goes awry and the team is stranded, O'Hara's squad must face a bloody, brutal encounter with a gang of rebels — and the horde of ravenous, enraged lions they encounter at a seemingly abandoned farm. Can they survive attacks from rebels and lions? This also stars Philip Winchester, Calli Taylor, Jessica Sutton, Lee-Anne Liebenberg, Brandon Auret, Adam Deacon, and Sisanda Henna. This looks especially bland and bad. As hard as she tries, Megan Fox just can't act - even opposite the CGI lions.

Sometimes watching Law & Order: Svu hurts.
It shows viewers week after week what it would be like if there were cops that doubled as social workers and didn't care what it took to get justice for victims.
Law & Order: Svu Season 21 Episode 1 was a powerful example of that,. In the wake of Jeffrey Epstein's death and the way so many other super-rich people have got away with sexual assault, it was hard to watch.
Tobias Moore was a big-time movie director who, as Rollins pointed out, thought he was above the law.
He targeted an immigrant who overstayed her work visa and used his connections in the government as well as all over the world to ensure he never got held accountable.
But Benson and the rest of the Svu team weren't about to let him get away with it, and his eventual arrest led to a million women coming forward at his arraignment.
