‘Between Two Worlds.’
When James Warburton was appointed CEO of Seven West Media succeeding Tim Worner he vowed to revitalise the Seven Network’s entertainment programming, focusing primarily on Sunday-Thursday primetime.
Warburton looks like delivering on that promise next year with a raft of initiatives including refreshes for My Kitchen Rules and House Rules, Endemol Shine Australia’s action-drama Rfds and Cjz’s four-part investigation of the disappearance of British backpacker Peter Falconio.
The line-up includes Esa’s revival of Big Brother, Screentime’s endurance competition Sas: Who Dares Wins, Eureka Productions’ extreme mini-golf competition Mega Mini Golf and Seven Studios’ Plate of Origin, billed as the “Olympics of cooking.”
Fremantle and Eureka will co-produce a new version of Farmer Wants a Wife, a format which previously aired on the Nine Network, while Fremantle’s Australia’s Got Talent has been renewed for a second season.

Former Network Ten CEO James Warburton was named CEO and managing director of Australia's Seven West Media following the surprise resignation of Tim Worner, the company announced Friday.
Worner has been with the Seven Network, the country’s top-rated commercial TV broadcaster for 25 years and spent the last six years as CEO of its parent company, Seven West Media. Warburton was a longtime sales chief at Seven, before being poached to become CEO of Network Ten under Lachlan Murdoch’s tenure in 2012. Warburton held that position for just 13 months. Tim Worner.
Seven West Media CEO Tim Worner has resigned after 25 years with the Seven Network, succeeded immediately by James Warburton.
Today’s announcement was not unexpected by some Seven staffers but the instant handover was a surprise.
The Seven Network’s revenues and ratings have declined this year, particularly in the 7.30 pm slot with My Kitchen Rules and House Rules, and Swm’s share price is languishing.
Warburton was chief digital and sales officer of Swm until being poached to run the Ten network in 2011, prompting a legal battle between the two broadcasters over his non-compete period. He was sacked by the Ten board after little more than a year in the role, succeeded by Hamish McLennan.
Last year he was appointed CEO of Apn Outdoor after a four-year stint running V8 Supercars, where he oversaw the broadcast rights deal between Foxtel and Ten. He departed Apn Outdoor after...

SYDNEY -- The Seven Network has axed its longest-running prime time local drama, Blue Heelers, as it aims to shore up ratings ahead of the return of AFL football competition to its schedule next year. After a ratings slump last year, Blue Heelers, produced for Seven by Southern Star for 12 years, will finish its 510-episode run on Seven later this year, making it Australia's longest running police drama alongside 1970's series Homicide. " 'Blue Heelers' is an institution and has long been the breeding ground for some of Australia's finest acting, writing and directing talent," Seven director of programming and production Tim Worner said. "Seven is very proud to have been a contributor to such a rich and successful program. We have a great deal of respect for 'Blue Heelers' and its audience. Both Seven and the producers are committed to giving the program the farewell it deserves."...

SYDNEY -- As the Australian networks gear up for this month's Los Angeles Screenings, the once intense rivalry that has been a hallmark of the territory may be giving way to a spirit of common survival with branded Hollywood shows being traded between rivals' schedules. On the surface, the rivalry remains. The Seven Network has emerged in 2005 as the surprise ratings winner, leaving terrestrial rivals Nine and Ten it its wake thanks to the immense success of Desperate Housewives and Lost, both programs it receives through its output deal with Disney. Seven's director of programming and production, Tim Worner, says the network will be looking for product at this year's LA Screenings (May 23-27) that can work in tandem with the two shows. But rival Ten's programming manager, David Mott, said that Ten's long-standing agreement with Paramount delivered the best schedule of new product in terms of volume last year.
SYDNEY -- Hollywood movies have lost their clout Down Under, at least on the small screen. They've become an endangered species on Australian television, with the traditional Sunday night feature making way for event programs, series drama, locally made telefilms or miniseries. "There are too many opportunities to see movies before they get to free-to-air television on a Sunday night," Seven Network director of programming and production Tim Worner said. "Viewers can see them at the cinema, buy the DVDs -- you just about get assaulted by them at checkouts -- they are giving them away free with pizzas, you can see them on pay TV. So it stands to reason they are not going to be as attractive as they once were." The top-rated movie for the year was the locally produced telepic The Alice on the Nine Network, with an average of 1.8 million viewers. It was No. 30 on the top 100 list, ahead of blockbusters Shrek (1.67 million viewers), Ocean's Eleven (1.59 million) and Bridget Jones's Diary (1.5 million), the only three overseas movies to make it into the top 100.
