Civil War is an extremely powerful, effective movie that thrusts you into the middle of an American civil war seen through the eyes of a war photographer. It’s brutal. It’s extraordinarily violent. The sound design is bordering on abusive. And if you watch it in IMAX you can reasonably expect to leave the theater with more than a little motion sickness. It is, however, excellent, with great performances from Kirsten Dunst as the older, jaded photographer and Cailee Spaeny as the reckless youngster new to the game. So see it. But we’d be very surprised if you decide to rush back for a second viewing.
Here’s our celebration of the wonderful, must-see movies where once is quite enough, thank you very much.

Currently in development, the dark comedy’s logline is as follows: Life seems easy for picture-perfect couple Theo (Cumberbatch) and Ivy (Colman): successful careers, great kids, an enviable sex life. But underneath the façade of the perfect family is a tinderbox of competition and resentments that’s ignited when Theo’s professional dreams come crashing down.
Directed by Danny DeVito and starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, the original film adaptation of The War of the Roses was released by 20th Century Fox in 1989, garnering a BAFTA and three Golden Globe nominations, including for Best Motion Picture, among other accolades.

It never gets easier to look up the horrors of what real life humans are willing to perpetrate but some of them are harder than others. Looking into the purported Scottish myth that inspired The Hills Have Eyes for example is a whole heck of a lot easier to do than find out the absolutely abysmal crimes that were committed against a young girl in The Girl Next Door. Sadly, today’s movie The Snowtown Murders, a.k.a. Snowtown (watch it Here), is a lot closer to the sickening facts that happened to The Girl Next Door. While Australia already got our notorious spotlight shined on the fictional Mick Taylor who was a composite of two backpack killers, today we will look at the man who is known as the country’s worst serial killer and unpack what he did and who with. The movie is hard to watch...

The moviemaking business is alive and well, and somehow giving several talents the greenlight in a 24-hour span. Ranked in order of interest, from best to good-enough:
The Hollywood Reporter reports (from Hollywood) that Lily Gladstone and Martin Scorsese will reunite via Charlie Kaufman: the latter has written The Memory Police, an adaptation of Yoko Ogawa’s acclaimed sci-fi novel which the Best Actress nominee will lead and Scorsese is executive-producing. Reed Morano (I Think We’re Alone Now) is taking directing duties on the film, somehow both Kafkaesque and Orwellian, as the official synopsis suggests:
On an unnamed island, objects are disappearing: first hats, then ribbons, birds, roses. . . . Most of the inhabitants are oblivious to these changes, while those few able to recall the lost objects live in fear of the draconian Memory Police, who are committed to ensuring that what has disappeared remains forgotten. Nicole Kidman has signed up to work with Macbeth and Assassin’s Creed director Justin Kurzel on a particularly dark-sounding family drama called Mice. More here:
Justin Kurzel and Nicole Kidman are two of Australia’s greatest gifts to the world of cinema, so it’s exciting to learn that the duo will be teaming up to make Mice, a drama which follows the fortunes of a family dealing with the aftermath of a series of devastating events.
From 2015’s Macbeth through to 2021’s Nitram, Kurzel’s filmography largely continues to impress with each film he makes, and Kidman’s CV simply speaks for itself. Mice is based on Gordon Reece’s 2011 debut novel, and is said to follow a mother and daughter who ‘are pushed to their limits, confronting their moral convictions and the line between right and wrong in the face of bullying, violence and fear.’

Hoult joins a pretty stacked cast that includes David Corenswet as the Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, along with Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Maria Gabriela de Faria as The Engineer, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
James Gunn himself has yet to confirm the casting but he hasn’t yet publicly debunked it, which seems to be his usual modus operandi when an incorrect rumour picks up steam.

Susan Sarandon, playing the U.S. Secretary of State Alaska Adams, gets the better of Bryan Brown, as the Australian prime minister, in a fast-paced verbal duel that represents the first footage from the Sean Penn-produced satirical comedy series “C*A*U*G*H*T.”
An elite team of Aussie soldiers is sent to an island nation to retrieve a secret file that has gone astray. Mistaken for Americans, they are captured by freedom fighters and produce a hostage video that goes viral. When the soldiers achieve celebrity status on social media, they realize that being caught might just be the best thing that could’ve happened to them.

HanWay Films has boarded The One, an erotic thriller starring Melissa Barrera and Nicholas Hoult and will launch sales at the Cannes Film Festival.
The project comes from writer-director team Kevin Armento and Jaki Bradley and is billed as “a nightmarish horror about the romantic and psychological warfare waged by our beloved popular entertainment — and also begs the question… are we, the viewers, complicit?”
Barrera, who’s coming off box office horror hit Scream VI, leads the cast opposite the Emmy and Screen Actors Guild Award-nominated Hoult. Barrera plays Taylor, whose last-ditch effort to find love by becoming a contestant on a reality dating show begins to feel terrifyingly real as she becomes a finalist. Amidst an opulent beachfront setting, fairy-tale dates and champagne, “pursuit turns into obsession and rivalry turns into treachery as reality itself blurs.”
HanWay Films is handling worldwide sales, with WME Independent and UTA co-repping the film for North America.

Even at 92, Clint Eastwood isn’t ready to slow down as he has set the thriller Juror #2 as his next film, with Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette in negotiations to star.
