(1949-1955), St. Louis Cardinals (1956), and New York/San Francisco
Giants (1957-1959).
Named to 1950 and 1952 National League All Star Teams.
1952 National League MVP for leading League in Home Runs (37), RBI
(121) and Extra-Base Hits (71). Also had .531 Slugging Percentage, 301
Total Bases, 31 Doubles, 77 Walks, 92 Strikeouts and 234 Times on Base
in 151 Games.
I loved playing in Wrigley Field. Fans would throw tobacco to me. What I couldn't put in my pocket, I'd store in the vines. I supplied the whole club with tobacco.
