Exclusive: The Peanut Butter Falcon filmmakers Michael Schwartz & Tyler Nilson have been hired to adapt and direct the remake of Riders of Justice for Lionsgate. Shawn Levy, Dan Levine & Dan Cohen of 21 Laps are producing. Sisse Graum Jørgensen & Anders Kjaeurhauge from the original film are executive producing. James Myers is overseeing for Lionsgate.
The original 2020 Danish film starred Mads Mikkelsen and was directed by Anders Thomas Jensen, who co-wrote the story with Nik Arcel. Riders of Justice was a critical and fan favorite hit due to its original tone and offbeat action. The story follows a recently deployed soldier who returns home to care for his teenage daughter after his wife is killed in a train accident. But when a team of statistics experts investigating the accident claim foul play, the soldier embarks on a revenge-fueled mission, along with an eclectic group, to find those responsible.

In his moving Oscar acceptance speech, Thomas Vinterberg said that “Another Round,” the Academy Award 2021 international feature winner, celebrates not just drinking alcohol but life and awakening to life.
Billed as an epic family drama, “Families Like Ours ” – his first TV drama series and one of the big market launches at MipTV, sold by Studiocanal – looks set to ask what life is worth living for.
Its logline kind of answers that question: “Countries disappear, love remains.” If the emotionally engrossing early stretches are anything to go by, that is both embodied in Laura (Amaryllis August), who is in love for the first time with fellow high-school student Elías (Albert Rudbeck Lindhardt); and in family love, represented at first remove by Laura’s relationships with her divorced parents.
The country which perishes is Denmark in a not-too-distant future. That scenario rings nightmarishly realistic, especially since the “storm of the century” hit Denmark in October,...

Prolific Danish writer-director Anders Thomas Jensen (Riders of Justice, Adams Apples, Men & Chicken), is dipping back into his deep well of dark comedy for his upcoming film, Back to Reality.
The film is described as a drama/crime comedy mashup involving a bank robbery, Anker, who gets released after a jail stint for a heist from which the money was never recovered. The only one who knows where the loot is buried is Anker’s brother Manfred, but the shock of his childhood trauma has sent him fleeing to an alter ego who has no recollection of the money. Hoping to unlock Manfred’s memory, the brothers travel to their childhood home and start digging, physically and psychologically. Denmark has finally started addressing the lack of diversity in local movies and TV series. From afar, the country is the epitome of liberalism and home to provocative filmmakers like Lars von Trier and a new wave of directors with foreign origins, such as Ali Abassi (“Holy Spider”) and Milad Alami (“The Charmer”).
But up close, the Nordic country has been sliding to the far right and enacting Europe’s harshest anti-immigration laws, pushing the local film community to react. The alarm was recently rung by A Bigger Picture, a female-led advocacy group spearheaded by Laura Allen Müller (“Borgen”), Sandra Yi Sencindiver (“The Wheel of Time”), Malaika B. Mosendane (“Chosen”), Siir Tilif (“Fatal Crossing”) and Dorcas Joanna Hansen (“Elvira”).
Along with newspaper articles and appearances on TV shows, the campaign triggered the most vivid reactions when it flagged the all-white casts of three high-profile Danish productions, including Von Trier’s “The Kingdom series.

Leonardo DiCaprio and his production company Appian Way have won the rights to remake the Danish film ‘Another Round‘.
The remake would see DiCaprio in the leading role which, in the original, saw Mads Mikkelsen play the role of Martin. Together with three of his friends, all weary high school teachers, embark on a risky experiment to maintain a constant level of intoxication throughout the workday. Initial results are positive, but as the units are knocked back and stakes are raised, it becomes increasingly clear that some bold acts carry severe consequences.
The film will be produced by Appian Way’s DiCaprio and Davisson, and Brad Weston and Negin Salmasi for Makeready, and Endeavor Content. Appian Way’s Mike Hampton will shepherd the project. The search for a scribe is underway.

Fresh off its Oscar win for best international feature film, “Another Round” is getting the Hollywood treatment. The Danish dramedy about four friends who engage in an epic drinking binge will be remade in English.
Leonardo DiCaprio is being eyed to star in the film in the role originated by Mads Mikkelsen, but there’s no formal deal in place. DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way acquired rights following a bidding war that reportedly involved Jake Gyllenhaal’s production company Nine Stories, as well as Elizabeth Banks.
Thomas Vinterberg, who landed a surprise Oscar nomination for directing the Danish film, will executive produce the remake, along with Sisse Graum Jørgensen and Kasper Dissing. Vinterberg also co-wrote “Another Round” with Tobias Lindholm. However, he won’t be directing or writing the upcoming version.
Endeavor Content and Makeready are financing the English-language movie.

It’s been a strange year, but cinema endures. The 2021 British Academy Film and Television Awards took place at the Royal Albert Hall on the 11th of April, 2021. In a first in BAFTA history, four women have been nominated in the Director category, including Nomadland director Chloe Zhao, Sarah Gavron for Rocks, and Shannon Murphy for Babyteeth. Other notable nominees include Promising Young Woman, The Trial of the Chicago 7, The Father, Saint Maud and Minari. It is a diverse line up, and a very unusual time but the red carpets are rolling out, even if they are in living rooms around the world.

Shannon Murphy has been nominated for the BAFTA Award for best direction for her debut feature, Babyteeth.
Murphy is in good company, with fellow nominees for the prize including Thomas Vinterberg for Another Round; Lee Issac Chung for Minari; Chloé Zhao for Nomadland; Jasmila Žbanić for Quo Vadis, Aida? and Sarah Gavron for Rocks.
It is the first time in BAFTA history that four women have been nominated in the director category.
These are the first edition of nominations to follow BAFTA’s seven-month diversity review, which came about after it faced significant backlash one year ago for a lack of diversity among nominees – including an all-male director category. Three of the nominated directors are also up for best film not in the English language.
The BAFTA nod is yet another accolade for Babyteeth and Murphy’s work, following on from the film’s premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival in 2019. There,...
