What kind of gift do you get for the most instantly celebrated Frenchwoman since Joan of Arc? A week after her birth, European newspapers are feverishly reporting on the presents being sent to Giulia Bruni-Sarkozy and her parents, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Many papers illustrated a story about the euro talks in Brussels with a photo of German chancellor Angela Merkel presenting the proud father with a Steiff Schlaf-Gut-Bar - an 11-in.-tall "Sleep-Well-Bear" who wears a distinctive striped blue onesie and comes from the fabled German firm's baby collection. A new statistical analysis indicates that the more Facebook fans an African politician has, the more likely they are to be forced from power.
Statistics can be used to prove anything. In the realm of social media, for instance, they can even be used to predict the career longevity of African leaders. While correlation is not necessarily causation, it seems that the more Facebook friends an African politician has... the more likely they are to be thrown out of office.African internet analysis site Oafrica recently published a data set of the Facebook presences of different African presidents, prime ministers and rulers. It revealed interesting data nuggets: Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan gained more than 250,000 online 'likes' for his official page in five months, while President Fradique De Menezes of far-off Sao Tome & Principe only had a mere 24 Facebook fans for his community page as of December 2010. The ground floors of the riads, all of which boast a lounge, bar, and lobby, are oriented around an open-air courtyard, typical of traditional Moroccan architecture. Next March, King Mohamed VI, who presides over the North African country of Morocco, is converting his " target="_blank">Royal Mansour estate, in Marrakech, into a hotel. About 15 minutes from Marrakech Menara International Airport by car, the complex is located within the older, fortified sanctum of Marrakech—the medina. It is composed of 53 private guesthouses, or riads. In keeping with the country’s architecture, the exterior of the estate is made of plain clay. The interiors, however, are a sumptuous homage to Moroccan design that recalls the exotic styling of the late Yves Saint Laurent’s own Marrakech palace. The opening of the Royal Mansour is part of the King’s “Vision 2010” endeavor, which seeks to bring 10 million visitors to Morocco by 2010 to bolster the tourism and hospitality sectors.

Kidman and DiCaprio are expected to start filming on location in Morocco early next year for the project, which carries a budget of around $150 million and will include extras from the Moroccan army, supplied by King Mohammed VI. Luhrmann has been trying to get the movie off the ground for the last decade. Production has already begun on the rival version, with Farrell taking on the role of Alexander. DiCaprio, who will also play the title role says, "What attracts me is the complex character of Alexander himself. His legend is one of the most compelling stories in human history." Kidman, who will play Olympia, adds of her role, "She is unlike any other woman I've played before, and it's a role I'm really looking forward to."...
