The Library of Congress has announced this year’s selection of 25 “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” pieces of recorded music to archive into the National Recording Registry, led by albums from Green Day, The Notorious B.I.G., and Blondie.
In addition to Green Day’s seminal Dookie, The Notorious B.I.G.’s classic debut Ready to Die, and Blondie’s commercial breakthrough Parallel Lines, other albums preserved among “the defining sounds of history” include Abba’s Arrival and The Chicks’ Wide Open Spaces. Jefferson Airplane’s Surrealistic Pillow and The Cars’ self-titled debut also made the list.
Songs include Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine,” Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick’s “LA-di-Da-Di,” Perry Como’s “Catch a Falling Star,” Bobby McFerrin’s “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” and Gene Autry’s “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” See the full list below and take a look at the Library of Congress’ full registry here.

Other than making records, what do Green Day, the Notorious B.I.G., classic crooners Perry Como and Johnny Mathis, Latin music giant Héctor Lavoe, and the late Bill Withers have in common? Not much, until today: Works by all those musicians, and over a dozen more, were announced as the latest additions to the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry.

Chris Pratt is headed back to the world of the Terminal List, as the hit Amazon Prime Video series marches toward its incoming Season 2.
The fan-favorite streaming show - based on Jack Carr's novel of the same name - followed Pratt's James Reese (a US Navy Seal commander) as he returned home from a failed mission that he is now questioning just how much responsibility he should take in what went wrong overseas.
Season 1 - while critically maligned (sitting at 40% on Rotten Tomatoes) - was a massive hit for Amazon's streamer. The show shot to number one on the platform's top 10, and racked up over 1.1 billion minutes viewed in just two weeks (via Variety).

The author of the novel that’s the basis for the Chris Pratt-starring Amazon series The Terminal List is speaking out about negative reviews of the show.
Jack Carr, a former Navy Seal whose novel was published in 2018, appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight on Friday, where host Tucker Carlson pointed out that there appears to be a wide discrepancy between the reaction of critics to the drama series and that of other viewers. The show, which debuted earlier this month and centers on Navy Seal commander James Reese learning more about circumstances behind his platoon getting ambushed, holds an audience score of 95 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, while the critic rating is just 43 percent.

When Jack Carr was tucked away inside a rental in Coronado, California, typing up what would be the first of five novels centered on a Navy Seal commander named James Reese, he zeroed in on a short list of dream collaborators if the book was ever adapted.
After all, the plot seemed prime for adaptation as the first entry, The Terminal List, tracks Reece after his entire platoon was ambushed during a high-stakes covert mission. As new evidence comes to light, Reece discovers dark forces working against him, endangering not only his life, but the lives of those he loves.
“Before I had a book deal or anything, I thought, ‘who would be the perfect person to bring James Reese to life?’ Chris Pratt. Then I thought, ‘who would be the perfect person to direct it?’ Antoine Fuqua. I picked them before they even knew who I was,...

From Paris With Love (Blu-Ray)Lionsgate Home Entertainment2010/Rated R/93 minsList Price $39.99 – Available June 8, 2010What is it with John Travolta and action movies? The actor who has enjoyed a career full of second and third comings has never been able to find the right vehicle within the genre. John Woo's 1997 Face/Off was a fluke because the picture turned out to be an interesting hybrid of brutal action and emotional drama. Travolta is an excellent dramatic actor and has shown some nearly flawless timing in comedic ventures, yet when he attempts to combine the two, he looks rather silly. Face/Off was the exception because Travolta was in fact playing two characters: determined and emotionally scarred FBI agent Sean Archer and the psychotic killer who destroys his life and steals his face Castor Troy. As action packed as that film was it was the psychological duel between Travolta and...

John Travolta, critics were reminded in the accompanying press notes for From Paris with Love, has “starred in some of the most monumental films of our generation.” So he has, though pressing such reminders into the faces of journalists, like a bare pair of breasts, is hubris that only the strongest of the breed could resist. In any event, Mr Travolta may now add one of the most mental films of our generation to his list of achievements.
Travolta is Charlie Wax, a government operative who knows the difference between an adjective and a noun and not only that, is deadlier than the bucolic horror that swept Europe in the 14th century. He’s partnered with officious Cambridge educated James Reese (Henry Tudor) a bourgeois bag man at the American Embassy, whose missions, received in nuisance phone calls, are pedestrian affairs like attaching bugs to desks with chewing gum (no,...

Make no mistake, From Paris With Love is not a very good movie. It's loud, it's stupid, it's vaguely racist, it's horribly miscast, excessively violent, has a fetish for guns... the list seriously goes on and on. And yet, despite these factors, despite everything this movie has going against, I had a great time. This movie is pure trash, but it's Euro-trash, which means it does it with style.
The movie opens in Paris, where young James Reese (the horribly out-of-place action hero Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is an aide to the Us Ambassador. Reese receives mysterious phone calls from an unknown source. He does middling work, like changing license plates for cars that other unknown are going to use. He goes back home to his Parisian flat, dreaming of a better life, despite having a ridiculously cute French girlfriend, who's so quirky she makes dresses out of curtains and proposes to Reese!

Shooting great, fast-moving close quarters action isn't easy. There is a lot of choreography and planning involved, a lot of tricky cinematography and most importantly, a lot of hard editing later. And in order to make a close quarters action scene that really pops, a director has to have the right composer to score it with energy and the right actors to give the scene weight. That said, no one is shooting close quarters action right now quite like Pierre Morel. This is perhaps the crux of the success of his first feature, Taken, which dazzled audiences last year with the unrelenting will of its main character (played by Liam Neeson) to kill anyone and everyone in the path between him and his kidnapped daughter. And it once again comes into play with Morel's second film, From Paris With Love, which follows a wannabe agent named James Reese (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) who has been biding time working...

Luc Besson is a legendary filmmaker for action junkies and for the most part all of his films are pure cinematic genius. So when I heard that John Travolta was starring in his next project From Paris With Love I was a little worried. I liked Travolta when he was wowing us on the screen with Pulp Fiction but lately it seems his personal religious beliefs are constantly being thrown in my face in the media and it is very hard for me to focus on him as a character actor and not focus on the character he is playing as he prances across the screen or in this case beats people to a pulp as ‘Wax’.

John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers premiered their outrageous action-thriller 'From Paris with Love' in New York Thursday night, and John talked to "The Insider" about his mercy mission to Haiti! John and wife Kelly Preston flew 22 doctors plus medics along with several tons of supplies to earthquake-stricken Haiti with the help of Qantas, and he said, "The important part of this is that the supplies that we brought were able to stay with those doctors. … They've handled hundreds of people already." In 'From Paris with Love,' in theaters February 5, John sports a bold bald look and a dastardly goatee as Charlie Wax, a loose-cannon CIA agent who takes low-level operative James Reese (Meyers) under his wing, giving him more action and bullet-dodging than he ever imagined possible as they attempt to thwart a terrorist attack. Luc Besson was at his peak in directing "La Femme Nikita," one of the most exciting thrillers of our time. This time around he contributes only the story, one given visual life through Adi Hasak's screenplay and Pierre Morel's direction, and it's an unholy mess. Designed to be a thriller-cum comedy whose title may well have been taken to give viewers the idea that it's a James Bond vehicle-based on the character's 1964 movie with Russia as the location rather than the City of Lights--"From Paris With Love" is riddled with clichés. Think car chases, huge explosions, CIA operatives, a loose cannon. Morel designs the film primarily as a buddy movie, as two men with opposing modi operandi--think Jackie Chan's Lee and Chris Tucker's Carter in Brett Ratner's "Rush Hour"-learn to dig each other to achieve a common aim.

I’m torn on this one, people. While I’m a huge fan of Pierre Morel’s cinematic output, I’m not exactly what you’d call the biggest John Travolta supporter on the planet. This looks like a total blast (pun intended).
