With no clues of an intruder, detectives find the bludgeoned body of “Realtor to the stars,’ Linda Stein in the latest episode of Oxygen True Crime‘s New York Homicide. Linda Stein was murdered – but who did it and why?
Stein’s apartment was found in meticulous order, but the crime scene pointed to homicide. Being a top Realtor, Stein had many admirers but also just as many enemies. With evidence from the crime scene, only painstaking sleuthing can identify her killer.
NYPD detectives make a gruesome discovery on ‘New York Homicide’
In an exclusive clip shared with Showbiz Cheat Sheet, retired detective Angelique Loffredo, NYPD North Homicide Squad said the team noticed there wasn’t any kind of “upset in the apartment.”
“Nothing was in disarray,” she recalled.
“When we get to the apartment, the victim was laying on the floor,” NYPD retired Chief of Detectives Robert K. Boyce revealed.

Seymour Stein’s footprint in rock ‘n’ roll loomed large, and while it was always clear to his daughter, Mandy Stein, it was perhaps most evident in her own career as a music documentarian, when she realized how intermeshed her father’s legacy was in the history of music.
“When I first started making films, I discovered a whole world about my dad. My first documentary was on these blues musicians from North Hill country, Mississippi, and I started playing him some of the music and he was like, ‘Oh, that’s Mississippi Joe Callicott,’” she recalled Sunday. “And I didn’t even realize that he had a record label called Blue Horizon where he had signed Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green, and just his knowledge and his experience, it was just everlasting.”

Seymour Stein, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member who was the co-founder of Sire Records, the former vice president at Warner Bros. Records and, many years ago, began his storied career in the music industry at The Hollywood Reporter sister publication Billboard, has died.
His daughter, filmmaker Mandy Stein, told THR that her father died Sunday morning in Los Angeles from cancer.
Stein signed such music legends as Madonna and The Ramones at Sire. But when he was just a teenager, he began working as an assistant to Tommy Noonan, then head of charts at Billboard, where Stein sat in on meetings to decide which new records to review and helped to compile the then just-launched Hot 100.
“I was just 16, working at Billboard after school. From the time I was 9 years old, I knew I wanted to be in the music business,” he said in an interview published...

The 6th annual Sydney Underground Film Festival is taking over all three screens of the Factory Theatre for a blow-out four-day event on Sept. 6-9.
Making it’s World Premiere at the fest on the 8th is the highly anticipated President Wolfman, the latest “green movie” by director Mike Davis that he’s cobbled together from public domain footage and feature films and set to an outrageous new soundtrack. The film looks like it promises to be a rollicking good time.
Other highlights of the fest include Guy Maddin‘s latest trippy film noir, Keyhole, about a mobster revisiting his homestead’s old memories; Bob Ray‘s documentary about Austin, Texas’ homegrown Total Badass; Bobcat Goldthwait’s media takedown God Bless America; Michal Kosakowski’s underground murder fantasy documentary hit Zero Killed; Richard Griffin’s funky The Disco Exorcist; and more.

Australia’s Revelation Perth International Film Festival will be holding it’s explosive 15th annual edition on July 5-15 with one of it’s most jam-packed lineups yet.

I can't remember a time I went to the Seattle International Film Festival (Siff) press launch and looked over the list of films and saw so many I was interested in seeing. The claim to fame for over the years is to call it the largest and most-highly attended festival in the United States. This is a fact I've often taken issue with as I don't equate quantity with quality. Granted, there has been a large number of quality features to play the fest over the years, including Golden Space Needle (Best Film) winners such as Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985), My Life as a Dog (1987), Trainspotting (1996), Run Lola Run (1999), Whale Rider (2003) and even recent Best Director winner, Michel Hazanavicius's Oss 117: Nest of Spies in 2006. That said, looking over this year's crop of films I see a lot of films I will be doing my absolute best to see.

As Henry Rollins states early on in "Bad Brains: A Band in DC," a definitive documentary on the legendary hardcore band is long overdue. "Legendary" is even understating it a bit, as Bad Brains helped to invent what we know as American hardcore, taking inspiration from the Sex Pistols and The Damned, melding it with their own funk and soul inspired musicality and "positive attitude message” and electric performance style to birth a beast all their own. Bad Brains influenced everyone from Rollins to Minor Threat to the Beastie Boys to the Cro-Mags and more. The new documentary directed by Mandy Stein and Ben Logan attempts to capture and commemorate the history of this band while also dealing with the serious issues they have faced, mostly thanks to wonderfully (and destructively) unhinged lead singer H.R.
"Bad Brains: A Band in DC" hopscotches through time, starting with a nasty confrontation...

Burning Down the House Directed by Mandy Stein No One Knows About Persian Cats Directed by Bahman Ghobadi Teheran, Iran and New York aren't obvious kindred spirits and unlikely to be twinned in any civic program any time soon, but two music-related films at the festival point out how underground culture can act as the heartbeat of any metropolis and, indeed, keep its independent spirit alive in the face of crushing obstacles. The 1970s weren't kind to New York, with bankruptcy, strikes and urban decay depressing the city. Yet, from this squalor sprang the misfits who gravitated to Hilly Kristal's shabby Bowery hole-in-the-wall, Cbgb [1]. Burning Down the House, Mandy Stein's documentary on the club (which closed in 2006 after a protracted dispute with the landlord) provides the usual, if well-executed archive-photo-soundtrack-talking heads (and, indeed, Talking Heads) formula, with Kristal, Debbie Harry, Sonic Youth, Patti Smith and Little Steven all making appearances,...

Matt Pinfield, Tommy Ramone, Chris Frantz, Mandy Stein, Jesse Malin ©Getty Images, photo credit: Amy Sussman 'Is rock dead?' an audience member earnestly asked during the panel following Mandy Stein's documentary Burning Down the House: The Story of Cbgb. Moderator Matt Pinfield took the mic and explained that no, rock is not dead, since he took his music-loving efforts to the world of radio. The rest of the panel - the gentle and sweet Talking Heads alum Chris Frantz; musician and bar owner Jesse Malin; Tommy Ramone, the last surviving member of the legendary punk rock band; and director Mandy Stein - were silent. Pinfield had it covered. And while Pinfield's enthusiastic fandom and idealism was endearing in its own right, Stein's documentary had, in its way, made an argument that rock - as an ethos and lifestyle practiced at Cbgb - was indeed dead. The difference in the short,...

The Tribeca opening of Burning Down The House: The Story of Cbgb had a somber tone, and it wasn't just for the closing of the historic venue. Director Mandy Stein dedicated the film to her mother, the Ramones' manager for years, Linda Stein, as she explained that the April 24 screening, "would have been her birthday today." Linda was murdered October 30, 2007, in her home.
The film begins with The Talking Heads song for which the film is named and features commentaries from Jim Jarmusch, Agnostic Front, Jesus Lizard, Henry Rollins, the founder of Punk Magazine Thurston Moore, Sting, and Michael Bloomberg—and a typically eclectic assortment of others. It combined recorded sets by The Ramones, Patti Smith, Blondie, and The Talking Heads, with discussion of the dangers of the Bowery and the Hell's Angel, how Hilly Kristal tried to save his historic bar, and the deperate attempt to move to Las Vegas.
