Frank Grillo has been cast in Season 2 of James Gunn’s popular DC series Peacemaker. Gunn announced the news Friday on Instagram, revealing Grillo will reprise the role of Rick Flag Sr. the character he voices in Gunn’s upcoming animated series Creature Commandos.
The Suicide Squad spinoff series starring John Cena, follows the escapades of Peacemaker, a role that Cena originated on Gunn’s 2021 film. Peacemaker is a vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.
The show’s cast includes Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick.
Gunn teased last month that Season 2 had begun production and shared a photo from the set. He also noted that for Peacemaker Season 2, he would “be directing some of the episodes” like in Saturday’s shoot, “But there are three other great...

James Gunn is currently on a tight and hectic schedule working on both Superman and Peacemaker Season 2. With both hands full and timetable loaded, fans have felt deeply concerned about the filmmaker and the fate of the two projects.
John Cena in Peacemaker
The director addressed this query on his social media platform, and it seems he is devoting more time for Superman while still making visible progress on the Peacemaker sequel. It is a tough job to handle two different projects and develop them at the same time, but that seems to be the thrill and joy of it.

On his Threads account, filmmaker James Gunn responded to a fan who asked how he juggles working on Superman and Peacemaker. He replied, “I only have a few days on weekends for Pm – other directors start soon.”

James Gunn shared a helmet selfie on Instagram to announce the production of Peacemaker season 2 has now started.
James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad was excellent. Then again, he had already helmed two great Guardians Of The Galaxy films, not to mention the hilarious Super, so we knew he’d be able to juxtapose the violence and the humour well.
When it was announced (and teased at the end of The Suicide Squad) that John Cena’s Peacemaker would be getting his own spin-off TV show, fans were cautiously excited but also a little worried about how the character would translate into a longer format.
Well, Peacemaker, which debuted in 2022 was a hoot. From the wonderfully bonkers opening credits, which saw the entire cast do an extravagant dance number, to the even more bonkers narrative, the series was much better than anyone was expecting.

While Criterion devotes itself to essential classics and contemporary films, in a rare but not unprecedented move, the boutique DVD/Blu-Ray cinephile label is adding some TV to its collection in June. Just announced, Barry Jenkins’ ten-episode “Underground Railroad” mini-series, originally having premiered on Prime Video in 2021, is coming to the Criterion Collection this summer. Nearly 10 hours long, the series featured Thuso Mbedu, Joel Edgerton, Aaron Pierre, William Jackson Harper, Chukwudi Iwuji, Sheila Atim, and many more

Director James Gunn brought a new level of emotional power to “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” by making the wisecracking Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and his tragic backstory the centerpiece of the finale. This required the Oscar-nominated VFX (led by Marvel’s production VFX supervisor Stéphane Ceretti) to up its game considerably to meet the demands of Gunn’s intimate scale and epic scope.
Framestore (led by VFX supervisor Alexis Wajsbrot) was tasked with expanding and improving its keyframe animation of Rocket through six stages, from genetically altered baby raccoon to hardened weapons expert. This allowed for greater nuance and complexity in the facial performance along with more detailed fur and an evolved gait and physiology. “It’s really a chain of artists that work together and get that to the level where other humans looking at it are crying because of a CG raccoon,” Ceretti told IndieWire in the video below.

The Dceu (DC Extended Universe) era of DC Comics film and TV adaptations has come to an end, making way for the Dcu (DC Universe) that’s going to be overseen by producers James Gunn and Peter Safran… but there is one Dceu project that’s going to make the transition between universes: the Max TV series Peacemaker, which was created by Gunn and serves as a spin-off from his Dceu film The Suicide Squad. Although season 1 of the show was produced during the Dceu era, Gunn is going to make season 2 part of the Dcu era, right after he makes his Dcu Superman movie Superman: Legacy. This year’s awards-contending films offer a treasure trove of crafts that includes transformations, exquisite sets, lavish costumes, memorable scores and songs and immersive cinematography. The contenders range from newcomers to legends — Variety breaks down the categories below.
Makeup And Hair
Prosthetic makeup designer Kazu Hiro could very well walk away with his third Oscar for his work on Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro.” Transforming Cooper into the legendary composer Leonard Bernstein consisted of five different stages to gradually age the actor. And the guild as well as the Academy love a transformation.
Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” could be a contender in this area, following in the footsteps of the first two films that landed guild nominations. The sheer volume of prosthetics and wigs went into building the characters such as the humanimals, the hybrid of humanoid and animal, and the villain, the High Evolutionary, played by Chukwudi Iwuji.

Phases 4 and 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have had some pretty intimidating villains thus far. From Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir) and his plans to take over the Earth for all Skrulls to Wenwu (Tony Leung) and his ancient rings of power to He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) and the threat of his variants, the stakes of the Multiverse Saga have been just as formidable to overcome as Thanos and those who came before. But there’s one Loki villain who might just have them all beat – the sentient A.I. clock we all know as Miss Minutes (Tara Strong).

Now stay with me here. I’m not saying that Miss Minutes is necessarily the strongest or most powerful villain. What I’m saying is that she is by far the most ruthless, sadistic, and terrifying villain we’ve seen thus far in the Multiverse Saga,...

With the insane games that the various streaming platforms are pulling in terms of removing content from their services (sometimes projects that were made specifically for those platforms), an added emphasis has been placed on home video. And with good reason. The only way you can insure that the movies you love will be around is by owning them on Blu-ray. Thankfully the home video labels have been stepping up their game, with deluxe packages overflowing with extras and feature films presented in their best possible format.

Mumbai, Aug 23 (Ians) Actor Rohit Bose Roy, who has voiced Peter Quill in all the three Hindi versions of the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ franchise, said that he enjoyed voicing Chris Pratt’s character of Peter Quill as his character is similar to what he is in real life.
Rohit said: “Voicing Chris Pratt in the role of Peter Quill or Star-Lord was so much fun because his character is similar to what I am in real life- fun, engaging and a little cocky. I remember the first time I dubbed for Peter Quill, they were so excited about my voice on Chris Pratt’s face that I became his unofficial voice across India.

Welcome back to another Blu-ray round-up. Every other week I try to bring you the best new Blu-ray releases; releases you might want to pick up for yourself and add to your growing collection. This week's line-up is eclectic, to say the least. There's a new Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel; there's a "John Wick"-like action flick; there's a '90s comedy that used to play on TV all the time back in the day; and there's a horror cult classic getting the 4K treatment. So come along with me once again as we dive into the wonderful world of Blu-rays. Because remember: streaming comes and goes, but physical media is forever.

Mumbai, Aug 3 (Ians) James Gunn, the director and writer of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3’, has shared that he feels really close to the character of Rocket in the film.
In the new film, Rocket Raccoon’s turbulent past catches up as the movie presents a visual and emotional roller coaster.
Sharing how Rocket takes centre stage in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3’, James Gunn said: “The central character, in a way, is Rocket, and Rocket’s the one I feel close to,” he explains. “The first film is the story of the mother, the second film is the story of the father, and this film is the story of the self, so it’s innately more intimate because of that.”
Elaborating about the character of Rocket, he said: “This is a little animal who was taken and turned into something he shouldn’t be and felt completely...

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, James Gunn fulfills the promise he made at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, when we spied a metal incubator in the chambers of Sovereign leader Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) that housed the artificial superbeing Adam Warlock. Now in the conclusion of Gunn’s trilogy, Adam emerges – albeit prematurely – from his cocoon, charged by his mother and the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) with destroying the Guardians and returning Rocket (Bradley Cooper) to the latter, who created Rocket as part of his vile attempts at creating a perfect race.

Mumbai, July 26 (Ians) Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ragtag band of misfits has now completed their pursuit with ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3’ bringing an end to the ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ or ‘Gotg’ trilogy. Director James Gunn said that one of the most critical points for him was that the films be tonally fluid as he did not want the humour to undercut the many dark and serious moments in the movies.
Sharing his vision behind the trilogy, James Gunn said, “The first film is the story of the mother, the second film is the story of the father, and this film is the story of the self, so it’s innately more intimate because of that.”
The trilogy is noted for their mix of comedy, action, character development as well as emotional depth and storytelling.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" closes out the arcs for the titular band of misfits in ways that complement their individual journeys, while making space for one last adventure together to save their dear friend, Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper). Although not a perfect film, as it does not always know what to do with its characters, there's much to love about "Vol. 3," including its unforgettably menacing High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji). What makes Iwuji's antagonist so compelling is that he's not some dude with a sob story to justify his brand of evil. Instead, he is simply a twisted scientist who is aware of his cruelties in the name of evolutionary progress. There's no struggle with morality here, nor any glimmers of remorse, as High Evolutionary is as dedicated to his nefarious cause as the superheroes are to saving the galaxy.

This post contains spoilers for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."
The third and final chapter of James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy is a pretty somber movie. Between including a goodbye to several of the Guardians, exploring Rocket's (Bradley Cooper) tragic backstory in sob-inducing detail, and hinging its climax around the ruthless demolition of an entire planet, the movie definitely leans a little more towards deep emotion than levity. It's a gambit that works, but when two great comedic actors were on screen, I couldn't help but wish they had a few more jokes to work with.
The duo in question here is Miriam Shor and Nico Santos, two actors who play The High Evolutionary's (Chukwudi Iwuji) sometimes-scheming sidekicks. With their cyberkinetic enhancements, mad scientist outfits, and desperate need for moisturizer, Vim (Shor) and Theel (Santos) are more scary than funny. Yet the performers under the...

The following article contains major spoilers for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," so you've been warned.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" may be the most gnarly entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet, and it's all thanks to the sequel's villain: the High Evolutionary played by "Peacemaker" co-star Chukwudi Iwuji. Not only is the High Evolutionary responsible for some rather unsettling bionic animal creations, including Rocket Raccoon, but he's also created Counter-Earth, an entire planet of human-animal hybrids that ends up being completely destroyed. All of his experiments are in an effort to create what he views as a perfect world, but ironically, the High Evolutionary himself is far from perfect.
Aside from the High Evolutionary's skewed perspective on what makes worlds and their inhabitants seemingly flawless and worth preserving, the villain is hiding his own imperfections in plain sight. Beneath faux skin spread stretch across his face,...

The "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy has reached its conclusion. There are unlikely to be more, with writer/director James Gunn leaving Marvel and joining Peter Safran to run the DC Universe. Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) will be back, as we learned at the end of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," but the formation of the group we fell in love with has come and gone. The ragtag bunch of space misfits has certainly gotten into a lot of scrapes over the years, fighting villains like the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji), The Collector (Benicio del Toro), the Sovereign, Ego the Living Planet (Kurt Russell), and Thanos (Josh Brolin) alongside the Avengers.
Along the way, the Guardians have gotten all banged up during their fights, and some of the actors have as well. For instance, Chris Pratt's longtime stunt double Tony McFarr split his head open during a stunt on "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

With "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," actor Sean Gunn has arguably reached the zenith of his career after his motion capture performance as Rocket Raccoon and his role as Kraglin, the mowhawked Ravager with a heart who finally gets his long overdue hero moment in his brother James Gunn's surprisingly moving threequel. When moviegoers first met the Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, the team was standing in the cosmic Marvel Cinematic Universe version of a police lineup. Though short of stature, Rocket Raccoon, voiced by Bradley Cooper, showed plenty of feral attitude, spitting and snarling as John C. Reilly's Nova Corps member, Rhomann Dey, briefly ran down his back story as "the result of illegal genetic and cybernetic experiments on a lower life form."
Fast forward to 2023, and now Rocket and his back story are at the center of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," where we hear the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) dehumanize him — or de-racoon-ize him, as the case may be — using the same designation, "Subject: 89P13," in place of his name. Unlike Nebula, who has evolved, some say, to become the best MCU character, Rocket has been...

Chukwudi Iwuji became one of the McU's best villains with his appearance as The High Evolutionary in James Gunn's trilogy capper "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3." His ego and cruelty know no bounds in this film, but Iwuji was still able to imbue some humanity to the character (even if he couldn't defend The High Evolutionary). And that's without even having two or three previous appearances to set him up as a complicated, if ultimately evil man.
Gunn first worked with Iwuji on his "Suicide Squad" spin-off show "Peacemaker," where the actor got to flex a completely different set of acting muscles. His character in that show could be seen as villainous (and was seen that way for a hot second) because he's an outsider that had to get by on deception.
Ultimately, his Clemson Murn is found to have the same goals as our heroes and, oddly, really...

During the prolonged climax of James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," the titular superhero team has to break into a high-security spaceship being flown by the villainous High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji). In order to make their way inside, however, they have to fight down a hallway populated by the High Evolutionary's goons, each of them instructed to kill the heroes. In an exhilarating one-take sequence, the Guardians lay waste to the security guards, killing every one of them with aggression and panache.
/Film has written about the dark ambivalence of that scene, pointing out that the Guardians had just learned an important lesson about protecting all life and respecting the strange animal monsters in the High Evolutionary's thrall. In other words, the Guardians has only just learned to be gentler and kinder, and yet they were...

It took a village of 10 visual effects houses, including Weta FX and Framestore, and 3066 visual effects shots to help bring James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” to life over 15 months of post-production.
From studying baby raccoons for the backstory of Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) to golden retrievers for talking dog Cosmo, the VFX supervisors spent months putting together the sequences — some with explosions and complex action, including the film’s already iconic two-minute one-shot scene timed perfectly to the beats of the Beastie Boys’ “No Sleep Till Brooklyn.”
The teams break down the process behind some of their VFX magic and how they navigated some of the most challenging scenes.
Cosmo Cosmo (voiced by Maria Bakalova)
When it came to creating Cosmo, the photoreal dog voiced by Maria Bakalova, Stephane Naze, VFX supervisor for Framestore, says the team pulled together photos and footage of a real dog and made it CG.

High Evolutionary In ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy,’ Explained: Is He The Best MCU Villain Since Endgame?
Mainstream pop culture-oriented movies have been obsessed with portraying antagonists with sympathetic backstories for almost a few decades now, and while that provides a chance for compelling storytelling by making the audience root for the adversary, it has become too repetitive at this point. In the MCU, this trend is particularly perceivable where any mention-worthy antagonistic performance like the mad Titan Thanos or the justifiable terrorist Eric Killmonger falls under the same trope, and even the maniacal Green Goblin was excused by his split personality disorder. Every once in a while, viewers need adversaries whom they can truly loathe, whose moral compass is so askew, and whose calculative actions and motivations are so vile that the binary between opposing forces seems really prominent. Thankfully, James Gunn introduced one such antagonist through the character Herbert Wyndham, aka High Evolutionary, in his latest release, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, a character irredeemably deplorable...
