Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of the Season Finale of Survivor Redemption Island.
I came in to this season quite skeptical, but after a strong start in the first three episodes, I became optimistic about how this season would go. However, after that drag race of a start, we settled into a marathon of mediocrity with an incredibly sub-par season. I won’t repeat all of the problems I had with this season, primarily the entire Redemption Island Twist, but let’s once again be thankful for Rob and Phillip for providing us with some entertainment for the past 14 weeks.
One quick note in advance of tonight’s Season Finale, and it’s a personal apology to regular reader Choirchick22, for whom I inadvertently spoiled the result of last week’s episode. In posting the link to my recap, I gave the result, which is something that I always try not to do.

David Murphy was the latest castaway eliminated on "Survivor: Redemption Island." He tells Zap2it that he maybe should have aligned with Russell and that Phillip's newest crazy thing - the race card - was "absolutely ridiculous."
Are you glad you went on "Survivor"? Was it everything you expected/hoped it would be?
"Yeah, I'm definitely glad I went on it. It was a great experience. I had a lot of fun, it was like being a kid again. It was everything I thought it could be and then some and if presented with the opportunity, I would definitely do it again."
Why did you decide to try to make a go of it with Stephanie? It seemed to me that if Zapatera had kept a strong alliance, you would've had a better chance at the merge.

Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of Survivor Redemption Island Episode 10.
After last week’s predictable double elimination of former Zapatera members, are we finally going to see an interesting episode, or are we in for the continued systematic post-merge dismantling along Tribal lines? Is the Redemption Island “duel” actually going to be a three-person challenge? And why is Phillip playing the Race Card?
My Random Thoughts:
- Previously on…Survivor. Jeff’s voice-over reminded us that Sarita said David crumbles under pressure, and David didn’t like that. I couldn’t decide whether that meant we were going to see David absolutely kill the Redemption Island challenge, or suck donkeys again. But I knew for certain at this moment that it was going to be one or the other. I’m getting a little tired of the Previously segments telling us what they think we need to know for this episode.

So the tribes merged and Sarita was left out in the cold, then poor Matt was sent packing back to "Redemption Island." What will happen with one big happy "Murlonio" tribe?
Redemption Island
Matt is kicking himself and gets the "fool me once" quote right, so he's got one up on President Bush.
Murlonio
David and the Zappers are marveling over Rob's "mob hit" on Matt, which is a delightful way to put it. They also realize there is no hope for Zap up against the Ometepe alliance. Ralph makes a hilarious and awkward attempt to talk to some of the girls from Ome about his place, saying he would vote for them at the end over Boston Rob, but they are having none of it. Rob is also keeping his alliance of six very, very close and is making sure they are acting like Ome is better than Zap,...

In three of the past four weeks, my "Survivor" exit interviews have involved listening to members of the not-so-fiercesome Russell Alliance talk about how even though they were successfully eliminated by their Zapatera tribemates, the ruling group was playing a game without any strategy. This week, the shoe was on the other foot, "Survivor"-wise. The Zapatera Six had to turn on their own, voting out Sarita White in a bizarre after-the-fact attempt to protect tribal strength over loyalty, exactly in time for a Merge. And on Wednesday's (April 6) episode, Sarita lost a Redemption Island Duel against Matt, when the...

Sarita White narrowly missed out on a chance to get back in the game on "Survivor: Redemption Island." She talks to Zap2it about her experience, how she respects the blindside and how she feels about Phillip.
Are you glad you went on "Survivor"? Was it everything you hoped it would be?
"Yes- it was and more. Watching it as a viewer you really have no idea how difficult living outside where there are no indoor options is. We had to exist in extremely close quarters with strangers. We had to trust people that at some point or another are going to take you down. All these things create such an intense alternate reality that makes for a really fun game."

The Zapatera tribe's alliance of six was strong enough to take down one of the biggest villains in show history, Russell Hantz, on Survivor: Redemption Island. However, when it came to the question of Sarita White's strength and physical capabilities, her one-time allies quickly changed their tune and sided with David Murphy to vote her out. White, a 36-year-old visual effects producer, is the first to admit she wasn't the strongest competitor, but (wrongly) assumed her fellow tribemates would see through David and his "insidious" ways. White talked with TVGuide.com about which player she calls the "juggernaut of power," who made her want to slit her wrists and why she hated the physical challenges so much.

Show of hands: Who hooted and hollered with shock and delight during Tribal Council on Wednesday night’s episode of Survivor: Redemption Island? Okay, good. Glad to know I’m not the only one with a sadistic streak.
Seriously, though, this week’s highly entertaining showdown at Redemption Island Arena, subsequent merge/scramble/double-cross, and “d’oh!” blindside vote — which sent Matt back to his state of isolation without passing go, and without collecting a shred of respect from his former Ometepe tribemates — were all things of reality TV beauty. Each week, Survivor host Jeff Probst answers a few questions about the most recent episode of Redemption Island.
Okay, Jeff, put yourself in Matt’s shoes. Ometepe voted you off early but now you’ve made it back in the game and the other tribe is trying to bring you over to their side. What do you do in that position?
I think I would have made the same choice as Matt. Zapatera just didn’t seem the right way to go. The lesson I learned in watching Matt is sometimes sharing your inner monologue is a really bad idea.

Genius is what that was.
The above quote, uttered by David after the former Ometepe tribe’s bold move at this week’s tribal council, represents the only moment when it seemed that anyone besides Boston Rob was really thinking about the game.
The rest of the former Zapateras couldn’t figure out why Boston Rob and Ometepe would seemingly turn on one of their own. But David realized the brilliance of removing any doubt to Ometepe’s plan.
The former Ometepe’s still have the numbers, so getting rid of Matt doesn’t matter from that perspective. Only Andrea was even remotely close with Matt and the former Zapateras overestimated Matt’s connection with her. All Matt really did for all of the former Ometepe’s was present someone who might ruin their plan by changing sides.

The tribes merge and sparks fly on "Survivor: Redemption Island" at the newly-formed "Murlonio." *snicker*
Redemption Island
Sarita shows up and Matt is pretty confident he can beat her, so ... that probably spells his downfall, but we shall see. Sarita does a wonderful job of talking up her tribe to Matt, which is very cool and a good show of sportsmanship.
In the morning, everybody from both tribes get to watch because the winner is rejoining the game. Rob's a little nervous if Matt wins. The challenge is the toe-hold challenge between two walls. Wow, this really favors Sarita - smaller feet. While the two challengers are standing up there, Probst baits Phillip into talking and the editors would have you believe it goes on for like 20 minutes, which it may very well have Heee.
The challenge is intense and Sarita seems to be more comfortable than Matt, plus...

Matt got voted off 'Survivor 22:Redemption Island' again in episode 8. Tonight's episode kicked off with scenes from last week's episode when Sarita White got voted off and sent to Redemption Island to face Matt. Next, they showed commentary footage. Matt revealed that he liked the fact that Sarita didn't seem pretty tough to beat because that gave him a better chance of winning the duel against her. Sarita also gave him some details about what was going on with the tribes. After the break, it was revealed that everyone from each tribe would get to see the duel between Matt and Sarita at Redemption Island, which meant a possible merge. At the duel, Jeff Probst revealed that the winner of this duel would go back into the main Survivor game.

Who would be the most interesting character on this season of Survivor if Boston Rob were not present?
Ralph?
David?
*gulp*
Philip?
The argument could certainly be made that Russell initially and Boston Rob recently have so thoroughly dominated the show that no one else has had a chance to evolve in to a more interesting personality. Perhaps David is proving that recently. With Russell out, he’s turned in to quite the villain and is arguably interesting.
But, none of these characters ever seem to have nearly as many interesting things to say as Russell did and Boston Rob does. Our Red Sox-loving survivor once again dominated this week’s episode first in game performance, but more entertainingly in what he does around camp and says in his confessionals.
Here’s a sample of some of his gems this week:

CBS aired a tense, thrilling game of hoops on Wednesday night, and it had nothing to do with the Ncaa College Basketball Championships. Nope, I’m talking about what was undoubtedly the most exciting Immunity Challenge of the Survivor: Redemption Island season.
Before we discuss that showdown, though, let’s recap a few points of interest about an hour that was alternately unpredictable, hilarious, and suspenseful:

You and I both really liked Sarita going into this game, at least as a personality if not a player. What has happened to her out there? I’ve seen none of the quirky spunk that she displayed in my pre-game chat with her.
I think the game overwhelmed Sarita. I don’t think she’ll ever admit it but I think it was more than she anticipated, which happens quite often to players. Survivor requires that you throw yourself headfirst into the game.

Pre-credit sequence. Apparently nothing interesting happened when Stephanie arrived on Redemption Island, because Wednesday's (March 30) "Survivor" begins with Team Formerly Russell returning to camp. Steve tries to patch things up between Dave and Sarita. Dave's feeling no regrets about how bluntly he tore into Sarita at the previous Trival Council. After a hot start, Zapatera's numbers are dwindling on "Survivor: Redemption Island." Krista Klumpp tells Zap2it she thinks it has a lot to do with throwing the challenge and getting rid of Russell.
Are you glad you did "Survivor," was it everything you expected or wanted it to be?
"Yes, I am very thankful for having the opportunity to be a part of this amazing experience. It was everything I expected and more. I don'' know if it was everything I wanted it to be, but that's because I'm out of the game. In 15 days out there, I experienced and put myself through more than I could ever imagine putting myself through in any other part of my life. So yeah, I'm very thankful I did it. I wish that things could've been different, but how ti happened was how it was supposed to happen."
Is there anything you wish you had done differently?...

They both think that God put them there on Ri. Though they share a common faith, Krista is going to give Matt a run for his money. For his part, Matt realizes she's a firecracker and means business.
The next morning at Zapatera, Steve finds it surprising that he received votes at the last Tribal Council. Stephanie tells him that the vote was nothing personal, but she just doesn't think he's a strong competitor. She confides to the camera that it is going to be hard to suck it up and be nice to these assholes, but she has to do it to stay alive. Steve...

Survivor: Redemption Island has been a delightfully treacherous affair this season, and Wednesday night’s episode proved no exception. After Zapatera suffered a crushing defeat in a launch-and-catch-the-ball challenge, David tried to sway members of his six-person alliance to turn on Sarita and replace her with Russell’s former main squeeze Stephanie (or “Stifinie,” as one Zapatera member spelled it). It seemed like a long shot, but Survivor’s clever editors peppered the episode with enough complaints about Sarita and her sore tooth — she’s “a drama queen princess,” said Julie; she’s “too fancy of a girl for this kind of game,...

Boston Rob has proven himself a fantastic Survivor player this season. Beyond easily besting Russell, what he’s shown is the ability to adapt to any situation while figuring out how to keep the target off of his back. He’s in a great position in his tribe with a number of candidates whom his tribe mates would vote out before him.
So why then did Boston Rob once again jeopardize this position within the tribe by working so hard for the hidden immunity idol clue this week? He has the idol already, what value do these clues hold for him? All that can happen is that someone catches him trying to keep the clue to himself and suddenly he’s no longer the Boston Rob who leads Ometepe, he’s back to Boston Rob the legendary Survivor villain.

As always, we love to hear from our readers as well.
Who should Zapatera have kept, Krista or Stephanie?
Kyle Kalember: I don't know that it makes that much of a difference. From what footage we've been shown it seems like Stephanie is more of a plotter and could be slightly more dangerous. Perhaps since she is a slightly bigger threat they wanted her to face off against Matt with the best chance of going home.
Dan Forcella: These two are so similar that it really didn't matter that much, but Krista did most of her complaining in confessionals and Stephanie was her fantastically annoying self in front of the entire tribe, so I...

Kristina joins Matt at Redemption. Krista and Stephanie draw the tiles at Zap to go to Ri and they are ready to tell the other tribe that they want to flip at the merge. Rob and Grant are on hand from Ome. The challenge is a race for puzzle pieces, then puzzle assembly.
Matt and Kris are head to head and Matt starts talking smack to Rob about there was no reason to vote him out. Meanwhile, Kristina is struggling physically and then Matt wins. Stephanie and Krista then just blatantly pimp themselves out to Rob and Grant as flippers. It's kinda gross. Can you be less like, ya know, prostitutes about it? "Yellow might look good on me." Hmm.

If you missed the final ouster of one Russell Hantz last week, get all the details with last week's recap.
As rain pounds on Night 11, Ometepe returns to camp after Tribal Council. Phillip expected the way the vote turned out. Rob is running the show and Phillip knows he is the odd man out. The next morning, Rob says Phillip is bothering everyone. "He's completely off his rocker," Rob notes. Then again, as long as Phillip is aggravating everyone else, it takes any heat off of Rob, so maybe Phillip needs to stay.

Did you miss last week's historic episode of Survivor? Check out my recap here.
The episode opens on the night of Day 8 at Redemption Island. "Anyone home?" Russell playfully asks as he arrives after he was ousted at Tribal Council. Matt figured he'd see Russell sooner or later, but not as the first one voted off his tribe. Russell tells Matt that his tribe said Francesca won. Russell confides to the camera that he feels like crap and is mad as Hell that his idiot tribe voted him out. Obviously Matt is a tough competitor, but he's a rookie and he'll be nervous to take on Russell. Ri may be Matt's house, but Russell is going to take it from him. In fact, he's going to beat everyone on his tribe and when they come to Ri, he going to make them sleep in the mud.

Man, it feels so good to play with you amateurs. You give away so much. You don't even know enough to keep your mouth shut.
Boston Rob uttered the above quote back in the first episode of the season. Not only is Boston Rob’s advice good in the game of Survivor, it is a decent life mantra as well. Unfortunately for Ralph, he didn’t hear it until it was too late.
Ralph went with Sarita to Redemption Island this week to watch the much anticipated duel between Matt and the recently voted out Russell. Overly excited that Russell actually lost, Ralph let his emotions get the best of him. In an obvious position of power because Russell was officially eliminated from the game, Ralph couldn’t resist piling on Russell by bragging about having the immunity idol.

Kristina Kell got voted off 'Survivor 22:Redemption Island' in episode 4. Tonight's episode kicked off with scenes from last week's episode when Russell got kicked off the island and set to Redemption Island. Then they showed footage of Russell at Redemption Island, claiming he is going to pick everyone off, one by one, when they get there. After that, they showed more commentary footage. They were making fun of Phillip's underwear attire, with his junk hanging out all the time. Ralph revealed to some of the Zapatera tribemembers that he found the hidden immunity idol. Next, they showed the Russell and Matt duel footage at Redemption Island. In the duel, they had to stack dominoes up to where they could tip them over and make a ball fall over and break a tile. The first one to do it,won. Ralph,Phillip,Kristina, and Sarita watched the duel. Russell ended up losing,...

There is a lot happening on the latest episode of "Survivor: Redemption Island," including some unexpected emotion from Russell and some totally expected weirdness from Phillip.
Redemption Island
Russell arrives to find Matt there, who is totally surprised. Russell is hopping mad about his tribe throwing the challenge. When it comes to the duel, Ome sends Phillip/Kristina and Zap sends Ralph/Sarita.
Russel says if this were real life, he'd be rooting for Matt because Matt is a good guy. But it's "Survivor" and he wants to win. The duel is block-stacking on a platform so they will fall like dominoes and release a ball. There are trip wires attacked to the platform - if you hit them, the platform will wobble and your blocks will fall, so it's pretty delicate.
Matt thinks he's got it and he sets his blocks off, but he's short in one spot.

Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of Survivor Redemption Island - Episode 3.
I was re-watching a couple of scenes from last week’s episode a few days ago, and I noticed something that really bothered me. In the repetition of the opening scene on the beach when Jeff was giving the instructions to the new contestants, when he delivered his dramatic line ‘…you will Not…(dramatic pause)…go home,” it was followed by Bible-Thumper Matt grasping his head and exclaiming “Whaaaaaaat?”
Now, this is my pet peeve. Matt obviously heard what he said, but I find that Reality TV contestants always have to sell their utter disbelief at what they’re hearing. It’s driving me nuts. It drives me nuts in real life too. When it happens to me, and someone says “What?!”, I now tend to respond with “Well, I’m pretty sure you heard me, but I can repeat myself if you like.

Kudos to the Survivor editing team for giving this week’s Tribal Council a classic aura of “will she or won’t she?” suspense. Indeed, it all came down to quiet, reasoned firefighter Julie (or “the old lady,” as Russell likes to call her) and whether or not she’d sell out her alliance to join forces with the franchise’s infamous villain and his two “concubines” (Mike’s word choice, not mine).
But first, it was off to Redemptions Island Arena for a “duel” between Matt and Francesca involving sticks, ropes, locks, and plenty of dramatic violin music to...

If you missed last week's episode of Survivor: Redemption Island, make sure you check out my recap here.
This week's episode begins on Redemption Island on Night 5. Matt arrives to find a sleeping, and shocked, Francesca. Why is Matt there instead of Phillip, Francesca wonders. She thought a member of Rob's alliance arriving at Ri would be impossible. Matt was so shocked himself that he didn't bring any of his stuff to Tribal Council. He says he trusted Rob too soon, and now he feels like an idiot. Matt confesses that it is hard to pick himself up after being blindsided, but he has a real opportunity now. Over at Ometepe, Rob admits that Tribal Council couldn't have gone any better. He was able to get rid of Matt and Kristina played her Hidden Immunity Idol. Rob thanks Phillip for voting with him, by telling him that he...

Liars and schemers and plotters, oh my!
The third episode of Survivor: Redemption Island was filled with plenty of misrepresentations, faking and downright lying. And you know what, I love it! This is what Survivor is all about. Who wasn’t sitting on the edge of their seat for the tribal council vote?
Julie burst on to the scene this week after having a grand total of zero words aired in the previous three episodes. I’m sure that the first time she was involved in anything relevant (the discussions to throw the challenge) most of you didn’t know her name (or Sarita’s) just like me. Well, we all know her name now.
Unlike Steve and David, who lied to Russell for no obvious reason and for no apparent benefit, Julie’s lie was brilliant, though not initially obvious. The way the show was edited made it...

We finally have two castaways at Redemption Island, which makes this "Survivor" episode even more fun than the already-hilarious Phillip nonsense.
Redemption Island
Fran is shocked Matt is the one coming to Redemption Island. He is as well, saying he should not have trusted Boston Rob so quickly. They get tree mail in the morning about their Arena Duel, which sounds very Thunderdome. The tribes each get to draw stones to send two people to watch the duel (they can vote for two, but if they can't reach a unanimous decision, they draw stones. Both tribes have to do that). Steve/David go for Zap and Ashley/Andrea go for Ome.
Arena Duel
The constructed Arena is pretty awesome, shouldn't expect anything less from this show. I hope those are real stones and not Styrofoam. The duel is using sticks/rope to make a long pole, which they use to reach keys.

We’ve witnessed a lot of despicable behavior on Survivor over the years, but I’m not exactly sure that shaking the hands of an opposing tribe’s members after their win in a challenge would qualify. Annoying? Maybe. Ill-advised? Yeah, definitely. But Boston Rob’s reaction to Matt’s gentlemanly move seemed a wee bit overzealous from where I was sitting.
Sometimes, though, you’ve got to make a power move early in the game, and sometimes you’ve got to justify said power move in a way that doesn’t leave you looking downright dastardly. And so Boston...

Did you miss last week's season premiere of Survivor: Redemption Island? Well, catch up with last week's recap.
Night. Day Three. Francesca arrives on Redemption Island (heretofore "Ri"), and says her mind is racing; she's not going to sleep tonight. In the darkness, she reads a note about her allotment of water and rice. She says Tribal Council was crazy thanks to Phillip flipping out. Francesca looks for flint, and fortunately she has some. She is actually happy to be on Ri because she thinks it is good for her game. She was friendly with everyone, but not in the majority alliance, so maybe she can come back later in the game when things have changed.
Ometepe arrives back at their beach after "one of the wildest Tribal Councils" Rob has ever seen. Kristina confides to the camera that she feels lucky she still has the Hidden Immunity Idol.

On the second episode of "Survivor: Redemption Island," Boston Rob switches tactics to take out a tribemate who is being a good sport. Hmph.
Ometepe
After her ouster, Francesca staggers off into the night to Redemption Island, where she finds her instructions about getting the basic provisions and then she settles down for the night. Meanwhile, Ome comes back from Tribal and Phillip takes Rob aside to say somethings from his heart. He also tells Rob that Rob "owns [his] vote." Yikes. Rob and his little cult of followers agree that Phillip is next to go.
The next morning, Phillip goes crab hunting with a spear. The other tribemates watch him and do a little "Crocodile Hunter" narration. It's pretty funny, but it also just makes me feel bad for Phillip. Of course, then he starts crying in a talking-head about wearing his country's uniform and serving and earning the...

"Survivor: Redemption Island" reveals 16 out of 18 people who have joined the latest quest to win the title and a million dollar prize. Beside going with a new rule, this season has a number of stereotypes and "everybody you can imagine" as contestants.
Two castaways are still kept a secret but they are from the show's past seasons. Rumor has it, they would be Boston Rob Mariano ("Survivor: Marquesas", "Survivor: All-Stars" and "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains") and Russell Hantz ("Survivor: Samoa" and "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains"). The show traditionally has equal number between women and men, so with 9 women already revealed, it is most probable that the mystery castaways are of male.
"Survivor: Redemption Island" premieres Wednesday, February 16 at 8 P.M. Et/Pt on CBS. The voted off contestant won't immediately go home but is banished to redemption island where he or she would live alone until the next one is voted out.

Are Survivor favorites Rob Mariano and Russell Hantz headed back to the show... again?
Speculation about the inclusion of these veteran players has increased because CBS released the name of 16 cast members today for Survivor: Redemption Island. The mystery? There are 18 spots, and the two unfilled ones will go to men in order to balance out the genders.

"Survivor: Redemption Island" has just fueled the fire that Boston Rob Mariano and Russell Hantz are joining the cast this season. CBS has said that there are 18 cast members, but there are only 16 revealed so far on their site.
Furthermore, the show is always gender-equal and nine of the 16 are women, meaning if they add two surprise guests who are both male, there will be nine of each gender.
The Rob-Russell rumors started when both were featured at the finale for the last "Survivor," which was when CBS announced the "Redemption Island" twist.
Are you excited at the prospect of Rob and Russell facing off (or perhaps joining forces) on "Survivor"? We aren't sure how we feel about it. Their rivalry during "Heroes vs. Villains" wasn't that fun to watch, to be honest. But it sure would be fun to see them work together.
