Pieter Aspe was born on April 3, 1953 in Brugge, Flanders, Belgium. He was a writer and actor, known for Aspe (2004), Zonde van de zendtijd (2009) and De nationale test (2001). He was married to Tamara Hanegraaf , Bernadette Vandenbroucke and Francine. He died on May 1, 2021 in Brugge, Flanders, Belgium.
He received twice 'De Hercule Poirotprijs', an annual literature prize for the best Flemish crime novel.
He was a full-time author since 1996. Before that he worked as a warehouse clerk, salesman, seasonal officer with the maritime police, photographer and educational school adviser.
Several of his books have been translated and published in European countries, such as Germany, France and Italy, but also in South Africa.
He wrote about 50 crime novels, of which 3.5 million copies were sold.
He was a Belgian writer of a series of detective stories starring inspector Pieter Van In. These were adapted for the long-running TV series Aspe (2004-14).
