Back in February, Hulu gave Stephen King fans quite a surprise when they released a teaser video for Castle Rock, a new series set in the world of Stephen King's fictional universe that has spanned many novels and short stories. While much of the series' specific details remain shrouded in mystery, the first casting news for the upcoming show has now been announced.
Variety reports that André Holland (recently seen as Matt Miller in American Horror Story: Roanoke and Kevin in the Oscar-winner Moonlight) has been cast in the lead role for Castle Rock. Holland will play "Henry, a death row attorney with a unique and complicated history in the town," the town presumably being Castle Rock, Maine.
Production on the 10-episode first season of Castle Rock is expected to start this year, and we'll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated as more details are revealed. In the meantime,...

Late last Saturday night, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey said their goodnights on SNL and threw it to Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, who belted out a rousing version of "Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town." Everyone on stage looked absolutely giddy, from Maya Rudolph dancing around in a fabulous cocktail dress to Kenan Thompson, singing the late Clarence Clemons' old "better be good for goodness' sake" part. By the time Little Steven Van Zandt waved surprise guest Paul McCartney over to his microphone, the whole performance started to feel like a benediction.

It was a big week in WWE with the Money in the Bank pay-per-view taking place, the forfeiture of the Intercontinental Title, and a trio of returning stars (Aj Lee, Chris Jericho, and of course, The Great Khali). The fallout from Money in the Bank has begun to lay the groundwork for SummerSlam, which means Brock Lesnar should be coming back soon to take on John Cena. Because of all this, Raw should have felt like a hot show, but any main event that has both John Cena and Randy Orton in it can’t help but feel like a rerun from seven years ago.
This week, I’m actually letting Tna off the hook. Yes, Sam Shaw and Gunner are free from the mental institution and off to a stupendously stupid start. Angelina Love needlessly dropped her Knockout’s Title, but there was just so much wrong...

Brian Dennehy is in negotiations to star opposite Sam Trammell in Amazon Studios’ dramedy pilot Cocked. Written by Samuel Baum and Sam Shaw, Cocked centers on Richard Paxson (Trammell), a Washington D.C. management consultant who’s estranged from his father Wade (Dennehy) and brother but is pulled back in to the fray of his family’s gun manufacturing company after a corporate rival, run by their uncle, moves to take them over. As Amazon Studios is releasing its current crop of 10 pilots today, the company already is working on the next batch. I’ve learned that Amazon has greenlighted hourlong dramedy pilot Cocked, from Lie To Me creator Samuel Baum. Written by Baum and Sam Shaw, the project centers on an estranged son who must return to work with his father and brother at his family’s gun manufacturing company after a corporate rival, run by their uncle, moves to take them over. Cocked joins three other pilots recently greenlighted by Amazon Studios: drama Hand Of God, written by Ben Watkins, directed by Marc Forster and starring Ron Perlman; comedy Cosmopolitan from The Last Days Of Disco filmmaker Whit Stillman; and drama Hysteria from Invasion creator Shaun Cassidy. Washington, Jan 10: Marilyn Monroe's album, called the "Lost Scrapbook" may reveal secrets of an extra-marital affair with photographer Sam Shaw.
The album contains never-before-seen photos of the late actress that she had hand-selected, compiled and captioned for Shaw, the Huffington Post reported.
In one snapshot, she is wearing nothing but a towel and has even commented on many of the photos in crayon, giving the scrapbook a truly personal and intimate feel.
Abigail Jones, Newsweek's Senior Editor said that the photos that she chose are the feelings that she had that time.
Jones added that the discovery of the scrapbook is also significant because it's the first time that they are understanding her.

Call them Finch's Angels.
Sam Shaw, Joss Carter and Zoe Morgan had their time to shine on Person of Interest this week, as the bevy of beauties donned sexy club attire, excitedly compared weapons and left the boys to play backup. Nothing quite like a ladies night, right?
Using the femme fatale trio as bait on "Lady Killer," the Machine pulled up a number for a Boston playboy who teetered on the lines of stalker/killer and just plain overly attentive.
It was nice to see Warren Kole as the focus, especially since he's played a bad guy on Fox's The Following and a good guy on USA's short-lived Common Law. It wasn't easy to tell which way his character, Ian Murphy, would fall, although the ominous music played tried to convince viewers when he was holding a knife or following Carter.
Except the real truth was about familial lineage and social class.

Former West Wing director Thomas Schalmme will direct the show's 13-episode first season, so expect a lot of walk-and-talks between Robert Oppenheimer and General Leslie Groves. With Hr rebuilding, a mysterious organization revealed, a new female super spy added to the team, and Root still trying to find the Machine, it's a wonder that Reese, Finch, Carter and Fusco find any time to kick back and relax.
And now with the Machine unleashed, it looks like their work is only just beginning.

Best episode: This was hard to pick because there were so many solid episodes this season including the last two, "Zero Day" and "God Mode." The Machine has rebooted, the call has gone out - and it looks like one person is going to have a "24-hour ticket to mayhem." Will it be Reese, Root, Finch or someone else?
I recently spoke with Person of Interest series creator Jonathan Nolan, along with executive producer Greg Plageman, about the end game on Person of Interest Season 2, its recurring characters, and what's in store for the finale, "God Mode."
Read on for excerpts from our Q&A…

Did you always know that the Machine shutdown and hard reset was the game plan to close out Person of Interest Season 2?
Nolan: Yeah, we've been building towards this for a long time. Because this season has spent a little more time answering questions about Harold Finch that for us it dovetailed very nicely with this idea that there's a more aggressive evolution than last season taking place here with the Machine.

This was a wildly different episode of Person of Interest that attempted to bring a new important character to the mix, while digging deeper into the government affiliation with the machine and the secret programs connected.
Rather than follow Reese and Finch around, "Relevance" switched the point of view to follow Sam Shaw, an operative working for a secret government program that received numbers in order to prevent terrorist and/or bad guy plots around the globe. Something very similar to what Reese and Finch do in New York.
In a lot of ways, the whole concept of focusing on Shaw reminded me of The Bourne Legacy: creating a fresh character within the same world that's connected to the same people, but with different motives and a different direction. Except, here, the result was successful, in large part to the fact that all of the main characters were involved.

On Person of Interest, Sarah Shahi Trades 'Wink- Wink, Flirt-Flirt' for Being 'The Ultimate Bad-Ass'
There’s not a whole lot Sarah Shahi can say about her role on this Thursday’s Person of Interest (CBS, 9/8c). But what she does reveal, she reveals with relish. Plus… it’s Sarah Shahi, so we’re going to allow it.
At the time of Shahi’s casting, series creator Jonah Nolan said of her role as Sam Shaw, “If James Bond and Sarah Conner had a kid, Shaw would kick its ass.” The actress herself ups the ante, summing up Shaw as “the love child of Catwoman and Jason Bourne.”

Public transit’s always been a great place for art, from busking musicians to the New York Mta’s current Sam Shaw photography exhibit, sponsored by Arts for Transit. Such exhibits are often moving in the direction of narrative media, and today the Toronto Transit Commission is launching a new project that explores the boundaries between public art and a good old-fashioned transmedia detective story. Every day for the next two months a new thirty-second episode of Murder in Passing will play in the Toronto subway. The series, which adds up to a roughly twenty-minute film, begins today with the discovery of …...

New York — A famous image of Marilyn Monroe with her skirt billowing atop a New York City subway grate is on display in a picture-perfect spot: outside the Times Square subway station.
The supersized version of Sam Shaw's well-known picture is part of an exhibit. The exhibit also features eight of Shaw's other Monroe pictures, on view inside the 42nd Street-Bryant Park station on the B, D, F, M and 7 lines.
The show opened Thursday. It'll be up for a year.
Shaw shot the subway grate photo for the 1955 film "The Seven Year Itch." He took the other pictures in 1957.
The exhibit is part of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Arts for Transit program. Manager Lester Burg says matching a mass transit setting with a popular figure from mass culture seemed a good fit.

The estate of Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe has lost its battle for licensing rights to an iconic set of photos of the star.
Photographer Sam Shaw captured the memorable Monroe photos, which include the infamous image of the actress standing over a New York subway grate as her white dress billows around her waist, in 1955.
The dispute between the late photographer's family and the conservators of Monroe's estate was settled by a Manhattan federal judge on Tuesday, who determined the bosses of Shaw Family Archives Ltd. would have approval of all of the images sold and get a cut of the proceeds.
According to Judge Colleen McMahon, because Monroe died a New Yorker, the Shaw Family Archives benefits from state laws that prevent anyone from licensing the rights to dead celebrities.
The ruling overturns a suit filed by Monroe's estate manager Anna Strasberg, widow of her acting coach Lee Strasberg, who sued Shaw's heirs for selling T-shirts emblazoned with their copyrighted pictures of the star.
Shaw family lawyer David Marcus says: "They (Monroe's estate) don't own the rights to publicise (Monroe), and the family business can move forward."
But Monroe estate lawyer Martin Pollner disagrees. He says: "Without this protection, irresponsible opportunists can continue to exploit the names and reputations of deceased New York celebrities for their personal gain."...
