Despite being in just its third year, the Montclair Film Festival debuted a robust lineup of films and special events today that boasts an impressive array of A-List comedy talent. The festival is set to open with the Jon Favreau-directed comedy, "Chef," which premiered at SXSW last month and is slated for theatrical release in May. "Fort Tilden," another SXSW alum, will also screen at Mff as the festival's Centerpiece. In addition to hosting over 90 screenings, Mff will also bring back its popular conversation series with talent the likes of Kevin Smith, Patrick Wilson, Michael Moore, Julie Taymor and Stephen Colbert. Mff has also partnered with the Blackhouse Foundation on an entire day of conversations with prominent African American filmmaking talent including filmmaker and author Nelson George, "Precious" executive producer Lisa Cortes and editors Sam Pollard and Lewis Erskine. Mff will take place April 28-May 4. See below for the full lineup of films,...

Park City, Utah — It's that time of year again when a tiny ski-resort town becomes the place to be for anyone in show business – stars and directors, distribution executives, musicians, unknown filmmakers hoping that people might want to hear the stories they tell.
Opening Thursday, the Sundance Film Festival takes over Park City for a week and a half every January. Anything resembling a theater is booked with screenings. Directors and their casts trudge snowy streets to introduce films and do interviews. Bars and restaurants are stuffed with people talking deals, or just talking about something crazy or unexpected they just saw on screen.
"It's almost like Burning Man. Once a year, this tiny little town that then transforms itself into kind of a crazy film city for 10 days out of the year," said writer-director Lynn Shelton, a Sundance regular ("Humpday," "Your Sister's Sister") who returns this year with "Touchy Feely,...

Next year's independent film festival in Utah will show films ranging from true life drama The Surrogate, about a man with an iron lung, to a documentary about Chinese artist Ai Weiwei
Some may follow in the footsteps of celebrated films such as An Education, Precious and American Splendor and go on to mainstream glory, while others are destined never to achieve so much as a distribution deal. The Sundance film festival, Robert Redford's annual celebration of independent film-making, yesterday revealed its competition lineup for January's event, which will take place as usual in Park City, Utah.
Debuting in the 16-strong dramatic competition are films starring Michael Cera, Paul Dano, Helen Hunt and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, while the documentary section features another 16 movies on subjects such as Chinese artist and political activist Ai Weiwei and the tax avoidance schemes of large Us companies. The world cinema drama section features...

Top Ten Movies of 2010
I feel as if 2010 marked a turning point in movies. Sure, we had our share of blockbusters with Alice in Wonderland crossing $1 billion worldwide and Iron Man 2 and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse joining it as the three lone live-action films to cross $300 million. However, after Inception and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, the only other films to cross the $200 million mark domestically were animated features -- Toy Story 3, Despicable Me, Shrek Forever After and How to Train Your Dragon. What does that say about this year's crop of films?
Well, first off, I think we all know a film doesn't need to make over $200 million at the box-office for it to be deemed "good." And this year it wasn't as much about the big blockbuster films as much as it was about the little guy that could, and smaller, indie films hit quite a stride.

Remember that Channing Tatum-starring cop drama that Shia Labeouf may or may not have been circling? While there's no word on why Shia was heading to co-star Al Pacino's place with a script, The Hollywood Reporter posts that Tracy Morgan and Juliette Binoche are in final negotiations to join the Son of No One cast, which also includes Ray Liotta and Katie Holmes. Check the date. It's no April Fool's Day.
The film focuses on a young cop (Tatum) "assigned to a precinct in the working class neighborhood where he grew up, with an old secret surfacing and threatening to destroy his life and family." Morgan will play Vinnie, Tatum's friend, while Binoche will play a reporter.
Let me just repeat the important word... This is a cop drama. So, not only has Morgan come out of a cop comedy that currently has Kevin Smith and the world of film critics at war,...
