Born in south Manchester, Mark studied fine art and sociology before his first
employment in the film industry as operations assistant at Ealing Film
Studios London, where he was later head of marketing. He also gained
on-set experience as an assistant director on films before moving into
directing.
Assessment, written and directed by Mark, won the Grand Jury Prize of Film
London at BAFTA in 2010, premiered at BFI London Film Festival and is supported by British Council Film.
It's lead actor Joe Cole was voted by Screen International a 2011 'Star
of Tomorrow' and the film is being distributed at selected Curzon
Cinemas supporting Andrea Arnold's Wuthering Heights and Lynne Ramsay's
We Need To Talk About Kevin. Both Intercom and Assessment now on demand at Curzon Home Cinema.
After making two experimental shorts Mark directed, produced and
co-wrote Intercom, working with Bafta and Emmy award winning actress
Jenny Agutter and Oscar nominated cinematographer Dick Pope who said it
was, "the best short script and the only one I've ever wanted to be
involved with". Winner of 5 awards and selections at over 20 festivals
including Palm Springs, Brooklyn, Molodist, Short Shorts Tokyo and
Foyle International Film Festivals. Intercom is now being developed as
a feature with funding from Northern Film & Media.
