Doctor of medicine who became a renowned writer. Member of the Académie Française and its secretary from 1944-46. Won the 1918 Prix Goncourt for "Civilisations".
His works, including his two long series "Vie et Aventures de Salavin" and "Chronique des Pasquier", were published by "Mercure de France"of which he was director from 1935 to 1938 after the sudden death of his friend Alfred Valette.
