- Arrested and charged with suspicion of cohabitant abuse, false imprisonment and robbery of ex-girlfriend, Suzanne Ketcham. Ketcham claimed the incident was her fault and withdrew the charges. Olowokandi was eventually cleared of any wrongdoing. (1 December 2001)
- Olowokandi's brother, Soji Abbidemi Olowokandi, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Kansas City, Missouri for identity theft. On 7 May 2003, Olowokandi allegedly bought a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer from a dealership in St. Louis using a forged Ohio driver's license with the identity of a Natural Resources Conservation Service employee. Investigators reported that at least 14 NRCS employees may have been victimized by the scheme. (28 January 2004)
