- Steven Slesinger was born on December 25, 1901 in New York City, New York, USA. He was a writer, known for Marshal of Cripple Creek (1947), Oregon Trail Scouts (1947) and Stagecoach to Denver (1946). He was married to Shirley Ann Basso. He died on December 17, 1953 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

- Stephen Slesinger was the owner of a New York City publishing house; in 1930, he obtained the U.S. and Canadian licensing rights to the Winnie the Pooh characters created by A.A. Milne. After Slesinger's death, his widow (died 19 July 2007) took over the company, further developing the characters and creating new projects. She worked out licensing agreements with Walt Disney Company, but sued the company in 1991 over alleged miscounted royalties. The case is currently (2007) going through the California state courts. Shirley Slesinger's second husband was cartoonist Fred Lasswell Jr..

- Romer Zane Grey and Stephen Slesinger were best friends. Each year they gathered at Steve's ranch in the Blanco Basin, near Pagosa Springs Colorado, and ran outdoor youth programs for inner-city kids. They shot a lot of film footage of the majestic natural scenery, in the Upper Blanco, including Square Top Mountain, that was used in various pictures. The ranch was set up like a western town where some of the -away shots were also filmed. One was a cattle stampede, for which Romer and Steve paid for each pound the cattle lost during their run.
