"Boys - let's move!" Syfy has unveiled the first official trailer for a new zombie horror series called Day of the Dead, a remake / update of the classic George A. Romero zombie movie of the same name from 1985. Which is exactly why we're featuring this first look to watch - always respect Romero. The trailer dropped during the San Diego Comic-Con@Home event, introducing the new series / Romero tribute, which will be launching in October. The original film is about a group of scientists and military personnel dwelling in an underground bunker in Florida, but this new series is a bit different - following six strangers out trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion. Not down in any bunkers yet. Starring Keenan Tracey, Natalie Malaika, Daniel Doheny, Lauren Howell, Morgan Holmstrom, Kristy Dawn Dinsmore, and Miranda Frigon. It seems more TV tame than the film, but still...

There is bad news for the Primeval spin-off today. Primeval: New World was the Canada Space channel version of the dino-heavy, British, sci-fi series. After its first season run it has been announced that it will not be renewed for a second season.
From Omni Film Productions and it’s British partner, Impossible Pictures, Primeval: New World starred Sara Canning and Neil Matter. According to THR the gang can start looking for work elsewhere.
Producers cited poor ratings as the reason behind the decision to drop the show. Americans will get the chance to check out season one of Canada’s Primeval: New World on the Syfy channel sometime this year, despite the sour outcome. DVDs will also hit the market, thanks to the international distributor, Entertainment One, in the U.S. In the UK, DVD sales kick off in April.

Warning: this feature contains spoilers for Primeval New World
Last week Primeval New World came to an end on Canadian sci-fi channel Space after a thirteen-episode run. A spin-off from the UK Primeval, now seemingly languishing in cancellation hell, it was purported to be an “older, darker and scarier” version of the five-season programme that inspired it, about anomalies opening up around the world allowing creatures from the past and future to invade our world, and the team who deal with them.
Primeval New World featured an entirely new cast – with one guest appearance aside – and a team discovering the anomalies for the first time. Admittedly, the show had its ups and downs (and more of the latter near the beginning of its run...

1.1 The New World
With the UK based original version of Primeval on what could well be a permanent hiatus, we do at least get to enjoy a thirteen-part Canadian spin-off. Originally broadcast on North American channel ‘Space’ back in November/December (and currently on a mid-season break) the new series takes the original idea of holes in time through which past and future creatures pass and gets them opening up in Canada, investigated by a fresh team of anomaly investigators.
Those new to the concept will find their introduction to the series relatively pain-free in series opener The New World, but it's handled well enough for Primeval regulars to not feel bogged down in catch-up, which is a difficult balance but done well here.
