- Born to a French Jewish family of Polish origins in Paris in the 1930s, he was obliged to flee persecution in Nazi-occupied France as told in his autobiography 'Géographie française.' After the war, he became an actor and founded in 1965 the 'Théâtre de la commune d'Aubervilliers,' the first permanent theatre in the French suburbs. He managed that theatre and staged in it numerous plays.
