The mysterious man who streaked through the sky like a fiery bolt and fell upon the ancestors of the Hobbits is simply referred to as The Stranger in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power credits. Immediately after his appearance, fans decided that the creators of the show were trying to introduce Gandalf into the story as a kind of fan service.
The appearance of this character literally screams that this is one of the Istari. Moreover, Tolkien's texts mention that the Istari had to learn a lot again after they acquired flesh bodies – this might explain The Stranger's temporary amnesia.
Why Could The Stranger Be Gandalf?
That the one who fell from the sky could be Gandalf is supported by his power over fire: even when stripped of his memory, he can make the flame go out and flare up again. In Tolkien's books, Gandalf says during...

Prime Video has announced that we will get our first look at some footage from the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power tomorrow when the first teaser trailer is released online.
Production has been underway since late 2022 at Bray Studios, just outside London. Season 1 was shot in New Zealand, but the decision was made to change-up location because The UK is "considered more economical and is also where the company is establishing a multi-show hub."
The first season concluded with the reveal that the seemingly benevolent Halbrand was actually Sauron all along. The Dark Lord offered Galadriel the chance to join him once his ruse was discovered, and when she refused, he fled back to the Southlands (soon to be known as Mordor).
It was also heavily implied that "The Stranger" was really Gandalf, but this is yet to be confirmed by actor Daniel Weyman or the showrunners.

In recent weeks Amazon has released a flurry of casting news for “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” season two. We have names of 15 actors who will join the Middle Earth cast: Gabriel Akuwudike, Yasen ‘Zates’ Atour, Ben Daniels, Amelia Kenworthy, Nia Towle, Nicholas Woodeson, Sam Hazeldine, Oliver Alvin-Wilson, Stuart Bowman, Gavi Singh Chera, William Chubb, Kevin Eldon, Will Keen, Selina Lo, and Calam Lynch. But details about their roles are scarce.
The only specific character information that accompanied the casting updates was the shocking news that Hazeldine (“Peaky Blinders”) will be taking over the role of orc-daddy Adar from Joseph Mawle. With showrunner Patrick McKay previously teasing elder elf (and ring bearer) Cirdan the Shipwright arriving next season, that still leaves 13 new roles shrouded in mystery.
Given the plot trajectory of season one and a hefty knowledge of J.R.R. Tolkien’s lore, here are the five...

This post contains spoilers for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," a high fantasy series loosely inspired by the extended prequel writings of J.R.R. Tolkien, dares to ask the big questions: What was Isildur (Maxim Baldry) like during his angsty, teen years? Did Elrond (Robert Aramayo) ever rock a side part? What was Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) like during her angsty (immortal) teen years? In fairness, there are a lot of characters -- some of their core conflicts were bound to get repetitive. Chief among these mysteries, however, was that of a hidden identity, one so curious that its very revelation could spell great change for the series. No, we're not talking about The Stranger (Daniel Weyman), or Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin) -- insert an ironically repetitious joke about narrative repetition here -- but Halbrand (Charlie Vickers).

You can tell if somebody’s watched German Netflix series Dark by the furrow in their brow and the delirium in their eyes. The 2017 – 2020 time-travel mystery required a flip-chart of graphs and diagrams to explain, but proved a cult hit for Netflix and led to its creators Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar signing a deal with the streamer. 1899 (read our spoiler-free review here) is the result.
“Knowing that we did Dark, everyone can be assured that [1899] is going to be something weird and wild and crazy,” Friese promised Deadline about her and Odar’s new Netflix series. The writer-directors vowed not to repeat themselves with the new eight-episode period drama, but still to give their audience a fun puzzle that returns to the pair’s mystery roots.

History became legend. Legend became myth. And for two and a half thousand years, nerds like us refused to shut up about all the cinematic wizardry Peter Jackson and his production team employed to bring Middle-earth to life in their "The Lord of the Rings" film trilogy.
Two decades after Jackson's adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy tome took the world by storm, grossing billions of dollars at the box office and racking up well over a dozen Oscars for its efforts, "The Lord of the Rings" remains one of the all-time greatest feats of epic filmmaking. Naturally, its digital elements have come to show their age over the years, but in a way, that has only served to bring even more well-deserved attention to the many clever practical methods and in-camera tricks Jackson and his crew utilized to make the movies — not least of all, the ones that transformed...

From the moment Daniel Weyman as "The Stranger" came plummeting down to Middle-earth at the end of the series premiere for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," viewers have suspected he's actually Gandalf. And why wouldn't they? Sure, The Stranger is younger-looking than we're used to seeing our favorite pipe weed-smoking wizard, and he's far more uncertain of himself (not to mention tolerant of halfling shenanigans), but it's only to be expected. After all, he's still clearly getting used to the whole being human thing.
The "Rings of Power" season 1 finale seemed to confirm what many of us had assumed all along, affirming that The Stranger is a force for good and an intimidating spell caster when he needs to be — and let us not forget that he, like Gandalf, seems to have a thing for moths (said with no judgment). Released earlier this year, fans of Berzerk Studio’s side-scrolling action adventure game Infernax are getting a treat today with the release of a new Halloween update. Available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam versions of Infernax, the update adds the new playable character known as “The Stranger”, a shotgun-wielding maniac wearing a familiar-looking hockey mask.
Players can unlock The Stranger in Infernax from the very beginning by naming a new save file’s character “stranger.” Along with The Stranger’s unorthodox attacks, the shotgun packs a serious punch both ways, so while you’re enjoying the gore it spreads, be wary of the kickback.

“When in doubt, Elanor Brandyfoot, always follow your nose,” The Stranger tells the young Harfoot in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’s Season 1 finale.
The line is almost identical to what Gandalf (played by Ian McKellen) tells Pippin in Peter Jackson’s Fellowship of the Ring, leaving many wondering if The Stranger — who was revealed to be an Istari — is the famed Grey Wizard. Adding to speculation is his friendship with Nori and the other Harfoots, which feels reminiscent of Gandalf’s relationships with both Bilbo Baggins and Bilbo’s nephew Frodo.

Season 1 of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” concluded with plenty of epic reveals. We know the identity of Sauron, we saw the creation of Mordor, and the three elven rings were finally forged. But the season finale left some tantalizing story threads dangling in the air for Middle Earth fans to ponder until Amazon releases new episodes. These are the top three unanswered questions Season 2 must address.

Prime Video's "The Rings of Power" concluded its first season with a heart-thumping finale, while managing to bring stray narrative threads together in a satisfying fashion. A lot of big reveals took place, confirming flaming hot fan theories: Halbrand is Sauron! The Stranger is Gandalf! ... and so on. Apart from this, we saw the forging of the Elven rings of power, Galadriel being faced with irresistible temptation, and Sauron straight up walking into Mordor. While the "Rings of Power" finale is a feast, I would like to talk about the implications of an important location mentioned in the episode: Rhûn, or the Eastlands.

Keeping The Rings Of Power Finale Twist Hidden Was A 'Real Challenge' For The Actor Who Plays Sauron
It turns out it was Halbrand all along. The threat of Sauron's return loomed large over the entire first season of "Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," but in the end, the dark lord was right under paranoid hero Galadriel's (Morfydd Clark) nose -- and in her good graces. By the time the handsome smith she found adrift at sea was revealed to be powerful evil incarnate, plenty of audience members had already guessed at his identity. But others, myself included, fell for the show's red herrings, believing either Adar (Joseph Mawle) or The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) would be revealed as the sinister villain.
The fact that even a fraction of viewers were deceived by Halbrand means that actor Charlie Vickers played his part well. According to an interview with ScreenRant, Vickers found out he was really playing Sauron sometime before filming episode 3, but the actor was...

Well, we finally know who Sauron is in "Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power." The reveal came midway through the eighth episode of the dazzling and deliberately paced prequel series, and it turned out the dark lord wasn't either of the mysterious figures we'd been focusing on all season. No, neither Adar (Joseph Mawle) nor The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) turned out to be the resurrected villain: instead, it was the devilishly handsome dude that Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) found stranded on a raft in the middle of the sea early in the season.
So, Charlie Vickers' Halbrand is actually Sauron. Where do we go from here? According to the series' showrunners, J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, the show's big bad won't just be comparable to the Sauron we've seen in Peter Jackson's films,...

"The Rings of Power" may not have been the "Lord of the Rings" TV show we were expecting, but by the end of its first season, the show proved to be the "Lord of the Rings" TV show we needed. Like the Peter Jackson movies, it drastically changes the source material, moves events and characters around, and otherwise alters the lore to tell its own version of the story.
Some of these changes were for the worse, particularly the keeping things secret to the audience in order to force a mystery around the identity of Sauron and The Stranger. Other changes, however, managed to make the TV show feel like its own version of the tales, grabbing what works best and adapting the rest to fit the medium. And much like with the movie trilogy, you can see some of the changes becoming the new canon in the mind of fans.

If, like your humble correspondent, you immediately assumed that The Stranger who fell from a star all the way back in the series premiere of “The Rings of Power” was Sauron, “Alloyed” is here to prove you right — or is it? The season finale drops that bombshell just moments after it’s begun, but just as not all who wander are lost, not all major plot reveals are to be trusted.
We learn of The Stranger’s true identity via those three otherworldly women who’ve been tracking him for several episodes now — two of whom seem to be called the Ascetic and the Nomad— and who offer such grand pronouncements as, “You fell from the stars, yet you are greater than they” upon finally encountering him. But he isn’t immediately won over by them, especially when they attack Nori as she and her fellow Harfoots try to rescue him — including their leader,...

A central story thread in Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is Galadriel’s (Morfydd Clark) quest to purge the evil Sauron from Middle Earth. The tale takes place during the Second Age of J.R.R. Tolkien’s writings, where most inhabitants of the continent believe Sauron to be dead. Anyone who has seen or read “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy knows that Sauron has not been defeated yet, and will indeed rise to power again.
With the Dark Lord in hiding during the Second Age, the series has been dropping plenty of hints that we have already seen Sauron on our screens. Tolkien describes Sauron as taking on a “fair” form during this age, allowing him to go unnoticed as he regains power. The following characters are the most compelling Sauron suspects, listed from most to least likely.

This post contains spoilers for episode 5 of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
The slow-burn nature of "Partings," episode 5 of "The Rings of Power," allows the series to ramp up tensions across Middle-earth, as loyalties are tested on the eve of a dark time. The episode opens with The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) and Nori (Markella Kavenagh) having a somber conversation (with Nori doing most of the talking) about good and evil. The identity of The Stranger is one of the core mysteries of the show, as we aren't quite sure whether he's a force of good or evil, but he currently seems capable of both. We cut to the crash site of the Meteor Man, where we see white-robed, hooded figures looking on ominously. Who are these folks?
The group is led by a yet-to-be-identified character (played by Birdie Sisson) whom fans most probably misinterpreted as a...

Amazon Prime’s “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is keeping viewers on their toes each week by dropping clues to several ongoing mysteries. None are more intriguing than the secret identity of the man known only as “The Stranger.”
The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) blasts through the skies of Middle Earth on a meteor before crash landing and being discovered by a Harfoot named Nori (Markella Kavenagh). Little is known about this man. He can barely speak, appears disoriented, and demonstrates a clear connection with magic. The show has dropped several breadcrumbs as to the man’s true identity. Using information from “The Lord of the Rings” author J.R.R. Tolkien’s descriptions of Middle Earth lore, we can piece those clues together to form a small list of suspects.

Superman & Lois has pulled off a speedy switcheroo.
The CW on Wednesday revealed that the superhero drama had cast Michael Bishop as Jonathan Kent.
The news broke Wednesday, just weeks after it was announced that Jordan Elsass would be vacating the role after two seasons.
Jonathan is the son of Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch), so writing him out was not an option this early in the show's run.
Alexander Garfin as Jordan Kent, Erik Valdez as Kyle Cushing, Inde Navarrette as Sarah Cushing, Wolé Parks as The Stranger, Adam Rayner as Morgan Edge with Dylan Walsh as General Samuel Lane, and Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lana Lang Cushing also star.
“Jordan Elsass has notified the studio that he will not be returning to Superman & Lois for Season 3 due to personal reasons,” Warner Bros. Television said in a statement last month to Variety.

Spoiler Alert: This podcast contains details of the first two episodes of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which debuted Thursday night. For more on the epic series, watch Deadline’s Inside The Ring: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power after-show that launches Saturday.
“The first thing I would say is we don’t really think of it as a prequel, though it is before,” The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power executive producer Lindsey Weber says about the sprawling multi-season Prime Video series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s epics that debuted Thursday night. “Something about the word prequel seems to suggest you need to know what comes later to appreciate it. It’s sort of like an appendage to a preexisting thing, and we don’t feel that way about this.”

To celebrate the hugely-anticipated release of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which finally arrives on Amazon Prime Video this week, we had the pleasure of sitting down with its huge ensemble cast and showrunners to find out more.
Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and one of the greatest villains that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is nearly here, but with Amazon’s epic new series comes a massive ensemble of characters to keep track of. Not entirely dissimilar from “Game of Thrones,” this new show traverses vast and diverse geography (except it’s Middle-earth instead of Westeros) and follows a number of different characters from different races, all set in the Second Age of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” story.
That means “The Rings of Power” is set thousands of years before the events of “Lotr” or “The Hobbit,” bringing to life a world in full bloom, at a time of general peace – albeit with the threat of evil looming on the horizon. Some characters you’ll know (like Galadriel and Elrond) and others you won’t (like The Stranger), so see below for our spoiler-free guide to who plays who in “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power...

Amazon brought “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” to Comic-Con on Friday, offering fans in Hall H an extended preview of what their expensive new series is all about — and a surprise orchestral performance.
The panel began with a group of musicians assembled onstage, conducted by series composer Bear McCreary (“The Walking Dead”) as they performed brand new music from the upcoming series (complete with a rockin’ violinist). “Lord of the Rings” fans know music is key to the series, so Amazon wanted to stress “The Rings of Power” won’t be without its own sonic identity.
The performance gave way to a surprise appearance by noted Tolkien superfan/scholar (and “Late Show” host) Stephen Colbert, who took on moderating duties for the panel but spent the first few minutes explaining to the audience why there’s so much story left to be told in this show...
