"Batman & Robin" is an infamous movie, in no small part thanks to Arnold Schwarzenegger's turn as the villainous Mr. Freeze. Was the casting of such a big-name star a mandate from Warner Bros? Nope! Director Joel Schumacher personally chose Arnold for the part. Reading Akiva Goldsman's script for the film, Schumacher found the dialogue for Mr. Freeze, intended to be "Shakespearean," to instead be "hysterical. In my head, I was reading Freeze's dialogue as Schwarzenegger."
So, Schumacher called up Arnold and asked him to play the part. As Schwarzenegger recounts in "The Making of 'Batman & Robin' | Behind The Scenes."
"Joel Schumacher came to me and said that he would like me to play Mr. Freeze. 'I would not direct the movie, because I only can do this movie if you play Mr. Freeze.' So, what are you gonna do? I mean, screw up a whole movie?...

The Dceu is approaching its final phase with the arrival of ‘Aquaman and the Last Kingdom.’ Under Gunn and Safran’s guidance, the Dcu is set to take over. Despite many projects originally part of the Dceu being canceled, Gunn’s ‘Peacemaker’ has managed to endure.
Gunn consistently shares updates on the development of ‘Peacemaker,’ and recently, he affirmed that the show’s second season will be integrated into the Dcu, similar to ‘Waller,’ a series centered around Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller set for a 2024 release.
Additionally, Gunn disclosed that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 is his next undertaking after wrapping up work on ‘Superman: Legacy.’ Contrary to substantial rumors, he also clarified on Threads that ‘Bat-Mite’ will not be featured in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2. This announcement comes as a straightforward response, disappointing fans who were hoping for the character’s appearance, especially given some indications from the ‘Peacemaker’ show hinting at Bat-Mite’s connection to the Dceu canon.

Dceu is well into its last stage with the upcoming release of ‘Aquaman and the Last Kingdom.’ Dcu is about to take over under Gunn’s and Safran’s leadership, and despite most of the projects that were previously set in the Dceu getting the axe, Gunn’s own ‘Peacemaker’ survived.

Take a look at more images of actress Leslie Grace as DC Comics "Batgirl", from the recently canceled 90 million budgeted live-action superhero feature, directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah:
"...studio insiders insist the decision to cancel the film...
"...was not driven by a desire for a tax write-off...
"...but by the desire for the studio’s slate of DC features...
"...to be at a 'blockbuster' scale..."
The first 'Bat-Girl' aka 'Betty Kane' (named after 'Batman' creator Bob Kane) debuted in DC Comics (1961)...

...in "Detective Comics" #359 (1967) by writer Gardner Fox and illustrator Carmine Infantino.
In DC Comics' "New 52" series (2011), 'Barbara Gordon', previously wounded in action as a costumed vigilante, regained her mobility after undergoing experimental surgery at a South African clinic.

When Batman & Robin came out 25 years ago in the summer of 1997, it pretty much acted as the death knell for the Dark Knight on the big screen. Following on the heels of 1995’s Batman Forever, this silly, sub-juvenile horror show from director Joel Schumacher killed any good will built up by the earlier Tim Burton Batman movies and created such an awkward situation for Warner Bros. that they ultimately decided it would be better to reboot the franchise eight years later by letting Christopher Nolan go in startling new directions with Batman Begins (2005).
Since then we’ve had Christian Bale as Nolan’s Batman, Ben Affleck as an older, more vengeful Caped Crusader in the Snyderverse, and most recently Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson’s ultra-dark take about a younger Batman still finding his way. Each of them has had their supporters and detractors, but all have managed to...

Exclusive: Deadline caught up with Greg Berlanti at the Intv conference in Jerusalem, Israel, who provided some insight into the timeline of the upcoming Batwoman pilot, written by Caroline Dries and directed by Marcos Siega.
Berlanti was one of the keynote speakers here at Intv, speaking on two sessions today, the morning panel canvassing his career as a series creator with 15 live-action shows on the air (more than any other showrunner currently).
While Batwoman was created by Edmond Hamilton and artist Sheldon Moldoff in 1956, initially as a love interest to Batman, she went on a very long hiatus, and was rebooted in 2006 in the seventh week of DC’s year-long 52 weekly comic book as Kate Kane, and open lesbian. While that version of Batwoman remains the protagonist for the Berlanti-produced CW pilot, he says that Dries “is grabbing across a set of issues in episodes”.

Happy Swamp Thing Day! The torches that were lit by the late Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson will burn on forever. Swamp Thing Winter Special #1 was written by Tom King and illustrated by artist Jason Fabok, and it leads today's Comics Corner. We also have a look at two covers for 30 Days of Night #3, The Gravediggers Union #4, The Walking Dead #176, Crypt of Horror #35, four preview pages from Coyotes #4, Extremity #11, and Rose #8. Flashback specials include: Rapture #1 and Dead of Winter #1.
Swamp Thing Winter Special #1: My interview with Tom King had to be canceled, but his signing at Third Eye Comics last Saturday was incredible. The turnout was huge and the comic shop had early copies of Swamp Thing Winter Special #1, so I got a look at King's story and Len Wein's original script and Bernie Wrightson's artwork. This is something you don't want to miss. Trust me, friends!

"You know the one I want to do? I want to make 'Batgirl'," said Refn. "Let's get Warners working on it."
"...it would probably be great fun.
"I very much enjoy my freedom creatively, but I also would love to make one of those big Hollywood films that costs a lot of money...
"...and has a lot of people running around with cell phones and all that insanity..."
'Batgirl' aka 'Betty Kane' (named after 'Batman' creator Bob Kane) debuted in DC Comics (1961) courtesy artist Bill Finger and writer Sheldon Moldoff as 'Bat-Girl'...
...then replaced by 'Barbara Gordon' in 1967, the daughter of 'Gotham City' police commissioner James Gordon...

So on Monday, I watched the Gotham series premiere with about 8 million of my friends. I started writing a column about the show and what it says (accidentally and/or purposefully) about the role of Batman in pop culture right now. But working on that column got me thinking more generally about Batman: A character who has been around for 75 years, a figure in my cultural consciousness since before my memory begins. The next thing I knew, I was making a list of my favorite Batman things–the movies, the TV shows, the vividly recalled comic book story arcs and standalone issues,...

When it comes to comic books, the cover is the first line of defense in creating a captivating issue. As the old saying goes; you never get a second chance to make a first impression, and the comic book cover is your welcome mat into whatever insanity the writer has planned for you. That initial tease of something awesome can lure you in, even tempting you to buy a comic that you’ve never read before. The power of the cover can’t be denied.
DC Comics have been one of the mainstays in the industry for the last eighty years, forming as National Publications in the mid-1930′s and cultivating a media empire that consists of comics, cartoons, movies and video games. They dominated the animation world starting in the 1990′s thanks to the work of Bruce Timm and have continued to find new ways to bring...

After looking up ol' Shelly I came away with much appreciation for this great man. He was there when the groundwork for the Golden Age of Comics in America was being laid as a uncredited ghost artist. Luckily, the comic book world discovered his contributions and he received recognition later in his life before passing at 91 years of age. Sheldon Moldoff, who drew some of the most recognizable superheroes of comic books’ golden age without receiving recognition in his own right until decades later, died on Feb. 29 near his home in Lauderhill, Fla. He was 91. The cause was complications of kidney failure, his daughter, Ellen Moldoff Stein, said. Mr. Moldoff drew covers for the first appearances of the characters Flash and Green Lantern in 1940 and some of the earliest renderings of Hawkman. He also contributed to the first issue of Action Comics, in which Superman was introduced (though...

This Week’s Must Look At: The artist book Don’t Kill the Weatherman by Martha Colburn has an online photograph preview and it looks stunning! I love Martha’s animation, but it always moves so quickly that it’s tough to savor the actual art. But, now I can! The above borrowed image is from frames from the film Spiders in Love: An Arachnogasmic Musical, the first Colburn film I ever saw way back in 2000. (If you go to the photo set, you can find details on how to purchase this limited edition.)Craig Baldwin has published issue #22 of Otherzine. You can read the whole thing here. But, two highlights are: An interview with Dominic Gagnon, who is seeking to save “censored” online videos; and curator Brenda Contreras reviews Sylvia Schedelbauer’s found footage film, Sounding Glass. This one’s for Canyon Cinema members only: But if you are one,...

In the latest of our comprehensive series of reviews of DC Comics' 52 relaunched titles, we take a look at Batwoman #1. Who's it by?
Batwoman #1 is written and drawn by J.H. Williams III (Detective Comics, Desolation Jones) and co-written by W. Haden Blackman. What's the history? The original Batwoman, Kathy Kane, was designed by Batman creator Bob Kane and Sheldon Moldoff, and made her debut in 1956 within the pages of Detective Comics #233 as a new love interest for Bruce Wayne. However, the character was eventually retired in favour of Barbara Gordon's Batgirl, after being criticised for promoting a negative female stereotype, and was later retconned out of existence during the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths. The 2006 DC Comics event 52 introduced readers to a new Batwoman called Kate Kane, a gay Jewish (more)...

Yesterday, the final episode of Batman: The Brave and The Bold aired in the UK. Viewers were surprised with the short clip below of Barbara Gordon fighting crime, CGI style. Is there more to DC's recent decision to move Barbara Gordon from her wheelchair and place her back into the Batgirl cowl? Whether this was just a fun treat for fans or something that's in active development at Cartoon Network remains to be seen. Batgirl is the name of several fictional characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics, frequently depicted as female counterparts to the superhero Batman. Originally created by Bill Finger and Sheldon Moldoff, a character that is (arguably) considered by some to be the first incarnation of Batgirl, the "Bat-Girl" Betty Kane, debuted in Batman #139 (April 1961) as the Robin-like sidekick to Batwoman. Following the promotion of Julius Schwartz to editor of the...
