The story of Frankenstein’s monster serves as inspiration for an Eighties-set teen comedy/slasher film in the new trailer for Lisa Frankenstein.
Written by Juno scribe Diablo Cody and directed by Zelda Williams (Robin Williams’ daughter, making her feature-length directorial debut), the “coming-of-rage” story focuses on the necrophilic infatuation Kathryn Newton’s goth high schooler has for a reanimated corpse played by Cole Sprouse, with the pair rebuilding the creature’s body one slaying at a time.

Forgive us for being wholly unable to name our favorite part of the “Lisa Frankenstein” Get Excited for This Film Starter Pack. Is it the basic logline? Is it the talent behind the camera? Is it the talent in front of the camera (Kathryn Newton as the titular Lisa! Cole Sprouse as her monster!)?
Maybe it’s just the punny title? Screw it, it’s everything, ideally sewn together into one delightful and unexpected package. In the film’s first full trailer, candy-colored ’80s flair is on full display, plus some winning lines from Newton and Sprouse giving an unexpectedly full-bodied performance as the seemingly voice-less creature. It’s cute, we promise!
Per the film’s official synopsis, the film is “a coming of Rage love story … about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse. After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life,...

Exclusive: Boutique distributor Juno Films has picked up North American and UK rights to This World is Not My Own, a documentary portrait of the folk artist Nellie Mae Rowe from filmmakers Petter Ringbom and Marquise Stillwell, which premiered earlier this year at SXSW. The award-winner will be released in theaters in the summer of 2024.
Beginning with her birthday on July 4, 1900, Rowe’s life spanned the 20th century. For most of it, she made art in obscurity, propelled by a force she viewed as a God-given gift. As the daughter of a sharecropper and former slave, Rowe made art from whatever she could find. As an adult, she transformed her home into her “Playhouse,” an imaginative oasis filled with vibrant drawings, handmade sculptures and dolls, and collected objects. Six years before her death, a wealthy gallerist, Judith Alexander, “discovered” and introduced her work to the art world.

Robert Eggers’ long-in-the-works remake of “Nosferatu” will haunt theaters next Christmas.
Focus Features has scheduled the movie for Dec. 25, 2024. On its current release date, “Nosferatu” will land on the big screen a few days after Disney’s “Lion King” prequel “Mufasa” and Paramount’s “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” both of which open on Dec. 20.
Eggers wrote and directed this take on “Nosferatu,” which features an ensemble cast of Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney and Willem Dafoe. It’s the second remake of F. W. Murnau’s iconic 1922 Dracula-inspired silent movie, following Werner Herzog’s 1979 film “Nosferatu the Vampyre.”
The new imagining of the cinematic classic is described as a “gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.” Eggers’ vision was first announced in 2015 and, at one point,...

The often long and convoluted process of developing a movie also frequently involves story changes along the way. Multiple writers and multiple drafts are common to try to nail that perfect narrative, and even then, the final film remains subject to change. Some say the film is truly found in the editing room but even after that, the studio and test audiences may force a re-think. Directors and writers hate being told to change their stories but the alterations aren't always for the worse -- in some cases, the audience's instinct proves correct for posterity.
For the films listed below, the theatrically released version differs from the one previously intended at some point in the process. Sometimes the change turned out for the best artistically, while other times it simply enabled a sequel or tried to avoid depressing the audience. Thanks to the DVD era, many of the alternate endings can be viewed,...

Anyone who’s read Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher” knew the Netflix series was going to end with horror, vengeance and a dilapidating house symbolizing the ruin of a once-great family. But leave it to show creators Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy to turn a literary classic on its head.
While paying homage to the short story it’s named after, “The Fall of the House of Usher” managed to wrap up its complicated story of familial greed and failure while also sneaking in a couple of extra Poe Easter eggs. Consider this your guide on how this creepy miniseries ends.
How does “The Fall of the House of Usher” end?
In Episode 8 “The Raven,” Roderick (Bruce Greenwood) finally explains to Assistant U.S. Attorney C. Auguste Dupin (Carl Lumbly) exactly why he’s responsible for the deaths of his children.

With just two episodes remaining in The Fall of the House of Usher, we can imagine that all our questions will finally be answered. What did Madeline and Roderick do all those years ago that made them so paranoid? More importantly, why does Roderick think he killed his children when clearly they all died due to circumstances, none of which involved Roderick directly? The Pit and the Pendulum is a dark tale of torture and leaves an eerie mark on the reader. Now, will it be Frederick who gets tortured to death? Or will he torture someone else?
Spoilers Ahead
There Is No Good Usher
Now we know that Roderick betrayed Auggie, but up until now, the story goes that Roderick was doing everything in his power to support him. They even rehearsed together in the wee hours of the night to make sure Roderick wouldn’t mess up the trial.

It’s interesting to read the description of each episode of Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher. Victorine’s death was especially brutal, with Roderick witnessing the whole thing. Episode 6 is titled Goldbug after Tamerlane’s product, but it is also the title of one of Poe’s short stories. Tamerlane’s story is one of obsession; she’s incapable of thinking about anything outside of her big launch, even if four of her siblings have just died. Let’s see how her obsession becomes her downfall.
Spoilers Ahead
Tamerlane’s Loss Of Time
We know Tamerlane hasn’t been sleeping at all, thanks to her fear that the Goldbug launch might flop. Because of this, she starts to lose time while working on the launch. She doesn’t realize when she’s crossed out the whole speech just to write her own name in capital letters.

Druid Theatre Company’s presentation of Sean O’Casey’s century-old Dublin Trilogy begins with a knocking. At the start of this six-hour, tripartite production dubbed DruidO’Casey, a man raps loudly on a wall, presaging the moments across the plays in which characters bang and hammer on each other’s doors, often barging in without receiving a response. And if that’s just life in Dublin’s tenements, it’s also the pounding fist of history itself demanding an entrance: In the aftermath of seismic events in Ireland’s journey toward independence, O’Casey boldly forced audiences to consider the impact of the just-concluded revolution on the everyday citizens, especially women, who become collateral damage.
At the NYU Skirball Center, the three plays of the Dublin Trilogy can be experienced individually or, on DruidO’Casey’s marathon days, all at once. The trilogy, ordered here by the historical events that...

For most people, choices made incur consequences. One of the most intriguing components of life is the realization that we all have a tab, and at one point or another, a bill will come due. The 1% who hold the majority of the wealth and influence globally typically don’t abide by these same rules. The upper echelons of society move through life seemingly without repercussions by leaching off the powerless. Mike Flanagan’s “The Fall of the House of Usher,” which earns its title from an 1839 Edgar Allen Poe story, showcases the demise of a family who, after being afforded every opportunity, eventually pays the price for their rampant monstrosity.

This poignant moment happens to almost any young person who is curious about faith and humanity and soul, but here, it kicks off the philosophical ambiguity of Edwards’ film.
The official synopsis for The Creator reads,
“Amidst a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, Joshua (Washington), a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife (Chan), is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war… and mankind itself. Joshua and his team of elite operatives journey across enemy lines,...

Back then, no one was expecting The Descent to go on and become one of the most widely acclaimed horror films of the decade. Even today, Neil Marshall’s second creature-feature (the first being Dog Soldiers) remains a favorite among audiences and critics everywhere. This iconic film defies those expectations based on its cast and pitch — not a man in sight as six women battle a clan of cave-dwelling monsters — and then delivers a thoughtful study of friendships, grief, and survival.
So when a sequel was announced, fans’ curiosity and anticipation turned into nervousness once it was revealed that Marshall was neither directing nor writing the follow-up. Instead, the first film’s editor, Jon Harris, was promoted to director, and the script was handled by James McCarthy, J Blakeson, and James Watkins. Other details about The Descent Part 2 were scant prior to its 2009 release, but after it was finally seen,...

If a Ted Lasso spinoff includes Rebecca, Hannah Waddingham is all in. “I want to see her through,” she tells the Los Angeles Times.
In a new interview conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike, the Emmy winner (who is once again nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series) admits that she is excited about the prospect of a new show focused on a Richmond women’s club, which Keeley pitched Bff Rebecca at the close of Ted Lasso‘s May 31 finale.

“A lot of what we do as directors is just putting out fires,” said “Ted Lasso” director Declan Lowney. Whether those are unavoidable or self-made fires, the directors at Variety’s Creative Collaborations: Directors on Directors panel all agreed that their shows and films faced serious challenges — but that didn’t stop their projects from earning Emmy nominations.
Directors Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton of “Fleishman is in Trouble,” Peter Hoar of “The Last of Us,” Lowney of “Ted Lasso,” Glenn Weiss of “The Oscars” and Davis Guggenheim of “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie” joined Variety’s senior artisans editor Jazz Tangcay for a conversation about their recent projects and the unexpected complications that came with them.
Preparing for a live show as big as the Oscars takes serious planning, starting as early as the day nominations come out and running all the way up to the final week before the show.

Deadline has reported that Juno Temple is in negotiations to star alongside Tom Hardy in Venom 3. It’s not known who Temple would be playing in the Venom sequel, but she should make a fun addition to the franchise.
According to Tom Hardy, pre-production on Venom 3 began in February. Kelly Marcel, who wrote Venom: Let There Be Carnage and co-wrote the first film with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, will take over directing duties for Venom 3. She also wrote the screenplay based on a story she developed with Tom Hardy.
Ruben Fleischer helmed the first Venom movie, while Andy Serkis took the reins for Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Although Serkis was down to return for Venom 3, he wound up being too busy with his other projects. “I’ve got so many projects that I was just about to [work on], like ‘Animal Farm‘ for instance,” Serkis said.

The cost of fame sits in the living room wondering aloud whether dad will be home for Christmas. Why these two young boys’ voices have been deepened to sound like they’re 40-year-old drunks slurring through a bender is beyond me (an assumption of it being a dream or game is squashed once mom enters without the effect being called out), but their words have meaning. Troyal’s (Mickey Reece channeling Garth Brooks) star has risen to unimaginable heights and he’s embraced it to the point where his “good ol’ boy” demeanor can’t quite hide the growing ego beneath a cowboy hat. While Jamie (Leah N.H. Philpott) tries toeing the line of admiring his accomplishments and being frightened about what they mean for the family, he’s already miles away.
And he’s about to literally be miles away, thanks to a letter from Troyal’s idol George Jones...

Don’t be surprised if Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple stop talking about how much they love each other. It won’t mean the affection and mutual admiration has expired; it would just be a way to protect what’s sacred between the frequent scene partners.
“She and I have gone more and more insular about our relationship because if you talk about it too much, it can never do justice to what she and I have found together as human beings,” says Waddingham on the heels of Ted Lasso‘s Emmy nomination haul of 20 nods, including one apiece for Waddingham and Temple for playing team owner Rebecca Welton and lovable publicist Keeley Jones, respectively.
In any other show, their characters could have become bitter rivals or been forced to claw their way out of petty catfights. But on the sanguine Apple TV+ hit,...

“Ted Lasso” last left off on quite a predicament for Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) after Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) told her he loved her and then Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) tried to book a trip for them but she declined because she is about to start her own PR firm.
Production for Season 3 of “Ted Lasso” is about halfway complete, and some of the cast of the Apple TV+ comedy series gathered at the Maybourne Hotel in Beverly Hills for an Apple TV+ FYC carpet and panel discussion Monday.
“I think they’re different journeys and both magic,” Temple told TheWrap when asked who she liked better for Keeley.

Oscar winner Diablo Cody is reflecting on the legacy of teen pregnancy dramedy “Juno.”
The 2007 breakout film won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and landed nominations for picture and acting for lead star Elliot Page. Yet later discourse centered the film as anti-choice for women’s reproductive rights, after Juno (Page) balks at an abortion clinic upon seeing protestors.
Now, amid the Supreme Court overturn of Roe v. Wade, Cody isn’t staying silent.
“I am emphatically pro-choice and have been my entire life. And it is important to me to make that clear,” Cody told The Hollywood Reporter. “But, you know, I can understand why people would misunderstand the movie. Looking back at it, I can see how it could be perceived as anti-choice. And that horrifies me.”
She continued, “When I look back on that time of writing the script, I feel wistful, because at the...

Juno, a spec script by a then-relatively unknown writer Diablo Cody, quickly became a 2007 breakout hit, winning the Academy Award, BAFTA and Writers Guild of America Awards for best original screenplay, along with Oscar nominations for the film and a then-20-year-old Elliot Page, who played the titular character.
It’s been 15 years since the film was first released, but it remains a part of the zeitgeist, straddling a now-particularly poignant cross section of culture and politics as conversations swirl around the ethics of the Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which for 49 years ensured a birthing person’s right to choose to keep a pregnancy, or terminate one via abortion.
In Juno, the teen protagonist navigates an unplanned pregnancy and considers the option of abortion, but ultimately decides to carry full-term and put her baby up for adoption.
