Katy Perry and Thomas Rhett brought down the house at the 56th Annual CMA Awards. Making her CMA Awards debut, Perry teamed up with Thomas Rhett to perform their pop-country collaboration, “Where We Started”, at Wednesday night’s star-studded show.
Perry was dressed in a long denim dress and a signature black cowboy hat for the performance, while Thomas Rhett opted for a sleek leather jacket.
The moving melody of “Where We Started” had the crowd on their feet and in their feelings as they grooved along to the sweet song.
The pair’s performance comes just weeks after they released the music video for the hit song. The ethereal visual sees the pair singing to each other after an intense walk through sheets forces them to meet.
In April, Thomas Rhett dished to Et about the collaboration and how it came to be.

The 2022 CMA Awards were a mostly predictable affair with a few pleasant little surprises — and we’re so grateful for it. Between the maelstrom known as Ye, the upending of the already chaotic Twitter, and the high stakes of the midterms, there’s enough wacky shit afoot without having to endure some stupid drama unfolding on country music’s biggest night. Sorry Garth, but thank God for answered prayers.

Aaron Raitiere excels at writing the kind of country songs that blend a biting sense of humor with a little something extra, like the righteous indignation of Caylee Hammack’s spiky “Just Friends” or the winking desire of Maren Morris’ “Tall Guys.” The Kentucky singer-songwriter brings all of this to the fore on his new solo album Single Wide Dreamer, shuffling through a group of songs that convey empathy and humor alike, in the tradition of John Prine or wordplay master Roger Miller.

Situated at Nashville’s historic Bluebird Cafe, Stapleton played the low-key ode to his family’s dog of 14 years in a roundtable set-up with acoustic guitars, a drum kit, and Lambert — a staunch pet supporter with her MuttNation Foundation charity — on backup vocals. “I can tell you right now/That a dog has a soul,” Stapleton crooned. “And I thought to myself/As we...

Caylee Hammack has turned her song “Small Town Hypocrite” into a collaborative number, adding singer extraordinaire Chris Stapleton to the mix for the new version. The original song appeared on Hammack’s 2020 album If It Wasn’t for You.
An autobiographical story about betrayal and crushed dreams, “Small Town Hypocrite” was a standout from a solid album on the strength of Hammack’s emotive voice and sharp songwriting. “Took all my plans and I put ‘em in a box/Phantom pains for the wings I lost,” she sings, chiding the ex who broke her heart.

The 2021 Academy of Country Music Awards aren’t until April 18, but on April 8 they announced a couple of the ACM Awards winners early: Jimmie Allen as New Male Artist of the Year and Gabby Barrett as New Female Artist of the Year. In addition to their victories, they’re also joining the list of performers scheduled to appear during the broadcast. Watch ACMs host Keith Urban surprise the winners with the news here and here.
This was the second nomination in this category for Allen, who defeated Cody Johnson, Hardy, Parker McCollum, and Travis Denning. His victory makes him the first Black winner ever in his category at a time when the country music industry has been confronted with how overwhelmingly white the genre has been over the course of its history. The ACM ceremony itself will be co-hosted by Mickey Guyton, who is the first Black woman ever to emcee the event.

Jimmie Allen and Gabby Barrett were named the best new male and female artists of the year by the Academy of Country Music in pre-telecast reveals posted Thursday morning.
Both artists were pictured opening up video cards from ACM Awards co-host Keith Urban and being shocked by the news. Allen was handed his as “something that arrived in the mail” in a studio control booth. “You’re just playin’!” he exulted after watching Urban’s video proclamation.
Barrett, sitting at a conference room table, was just a little more expectant when opening her video card:”Oh my God! Now I know why you told me to put on my makeup and get dressed.”
Giving these awards out early isn’t just a way to knock some categories off early and leave more time on the three-hour CBS telecast for performances, although it is performance-related. As Urban noted in his video messages,...

The ACM Awards for New Male Artist of the Year and New Female Artist of the Year are quite hit-and-miss when it comes to anointing future hit-makers. While the awards have gone to country superstars like Maren Morris, Chris Stapleton, and Vince Gill, other winners have turned out not to be as influential in the long run, which makes predicting the winners a little harder than just choosing the highest-profile artist of the bunch.
Take last year, for example. Female nominees included eventual three-time Grammy nominee Ingrid Andress, crossover hit singer Gabby Barrett, and Caylee Hammack — all three of whom are nominated again this year — as well as Lindsay Ell. But the award ended up going to newcomer Tenille Townes, the only nominee besides Hammack with no Hot 100 charting songs.

Just a few months after the 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards were delayed to last September due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2021 nominees have been announced. Maren Morris and Chris Stapleton lead with six nominations each. They’re followed by Miranda Lambert with five and Ashley McBryde and Thomas Rhett with four. Though those women earned multiple noms, there are zero women up for Entertainer of the Year, which at this point isn’t too surprising for the ACMs. Scroll down for the complete list of nominees, and find out who wins when the awards are handed out on April 18.

Maren Morris and Chris Stapleton emerged as the leading nominees with six each when the nominations for the 56th Academy of Country Music Awards were announced Friday morning.
Morris’ strong showing is due in part to the success of her song “The Bones,” which landed her nominations for Single of the Year and Song of the Year (Morris co-wrote the crossover hit). As an artist, she’s up for Female Artist of the Year and, as a member of the Highwomen, for Group of the Year.

Elle King has moved on from a bad relationship, but her ex won’t let it go in her emotive performance video for new single, “Another You.”
Cowritten by King, Sam Fischer and John Hume, “Another You” discusses heartbreak and second chances at new love. In the intimate performance clip, King sings directly into the camera as she details actions from a former lover who made “a bad decision,” which led to their demise. Yet, after their relationship has ended, the pursuit continues. However, she’s done with the game.

Despite a shuffling performer line-up due to multiple positive tests for Covid-19, the Country Music Association Awards were held on Wednesday at an in-person ceremony at Nashville’s Music City Center.
In the days leading up to the ceremony, four acts — Rascal Flatts, the recently renamed Lady A, Florida Georgia Line and “I Hope You’re Happy Now” singer Lee Brice — were forced to pull out from the show after either being exposed to or testing positive for Covid.
But as they say, the show must go on, and the Reba McEntire and Darius Rucker-hosted ceremony went ahead as planned, honoring some of the biggest names in country music.
