Olivier Staub is an award-winning commercial filmmaker and photographer who has been recognized internationally at prestigious award shows including Cannes Lions, D&AD, and One Show.
Originally hailing from France, Olivier trained under Michael Desmarteau, a widely acknowledged master of commercial photography. The technical craft and understanding of large format analogue photography would serve as a point of inspiration over the course of Olivier's career. This has led to a style that challenges the commercial genre and manifests itself as powerfully and distinctly cinematic.
Upon settling in Montreal in 1994, Olivier was quickly commissioned by major ad agencies, launching an illustrious career that would see him shoot all over the world for high-profile clients such as General Motors, Volkswagen and Nike.
The advent of digital photography opened Olivier up to the world of filmmaking and he ambitiously took charge of the thrilling new opportunities, founding Staub Studio in 2004, a fully-integrated audio-visual production house for photography, TV commercials and web content. The studio went on to nurture the careers of many young talents and later evolved into La Cavalerie, a production company specialized in integrated production.
Today, Olivier is known as one of the most active and rewarded Canadian artists. Renowned for delivering standout commercials under pressure, Olivier's unique mastery of storytelling and visuals has been proven time and time again. His work demonstrates genre-defying versatility; whether he is matching Scarlett Johansson's voice to heartfelt shots of war orphans or capturing playful, action-packed feats, Olivier is guaranteed to transform any script into beautiful and exhilarating visuals.
Amongst his most notable achievements, Olivier is responsible for directing one of the top ten most awarded films worldwide in 2015-2016. Shot on the top of a glacier at 2800 m, "37 days", exemplifies Olivier's ability to create incredible films amidst some of the most challenging weather and location challenges. Amongst over 65 international prizes Olivier's film picked up, it was awarded four Cannes Lions and the Grand Prix at the Cristal Awards.
Olivier has trained and mentored countless artists and today sits at the helm of a major commercial production collective in Montreal. He is a founding partner and creative steward of Mile Inn, an innovative production collective that includes film, photography, virtual reality, experiential, original music and more. He continues to shoot award-winning work for major international clients around the globe.
