Exclusive: UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, has extended an overall development deal with Tanya Saracho (Vida). She will develop and produce original projects for broadcast, cable and streaming platforms under the agreement.
Saracho is currently in development on several projects including the series The Wild Wild, inspired by the lives of Annie Oakley, America’s most famous sharpshooter, and the renowned trick-rider Señorita Rosalie, who were both stars of the famed Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show.
She will serve as co-creator and executive producer of the project along with Jenniffer Gomez, with Jamie Babbit attached to direct and executive produce.

Exclusive: Mentorship Matters, an initiative aimed at boosting opportunities for emerging writers of color, has announced 25 writer mentees for its 2023 program, along with participating showrunner/executive producers.
Now in its second year, Mentorship Matters was developed by showrunners committed to using their positions to advocate for and help create opportunities for writers of color. With sponsorship from Amazon and AMC Networks, the program includes a year of consistent, in-depth mentorship and creative advocacy from a committed showrunner. It also includes guidance with developing and polishing an original writing sample along with panels and seminars with high-level industry professionals. Each mentee will be paired with a participating showrunner/executive producer mentor.
In the program’s inaugural year, 14 out of 23 mentees found representation, 8 were staffed on shows including Billions (Showtime), Criminal Minds: Evolution (Paramount+), Walker: Independence (The CW), and The Power (Amazon), and 1 signed an overall deal with Sony TV Studios.

Exclusive: Three of the most dynamic creators in Tinseltown have brought together two of the most preeminent advocacy organizations to further advance Latine representation and equity in the industry.
America Ferrera, Tanya Saracho, and Gloria Calderón Kellett have partnered Harness and the Untitled Latinx Project that they respectively co-founded to create Dear Hollywood.
With the acronym standing for Demanding Equal Access and Representation, Dear Hollywood aims to bring greater representation of Latine voices, stories, talent and creativity on both sides of the camera and on set and in the corner offices in the film and TV industry.
Planting the flags of equity and education, and set for a soft launch this month, the newly minted organization today unveiled its self-declared, and what should be self-evident, “five pillars”:
1. No stories about us without us
2. Greenlight our projects
3. Represent all aspects of our lives and culture
4. Put a limit on repeating...
