The widow of singer Chris Cornell and his former bandmates in Soundgarden said Monday that they have resolved her lawsuit against them, clearing the way for the release of the band’s final recordings more than five years after his death.
Vicky Cornell sued Soundgarden in federal court in 2019 over royalties from recordings her husband had made that she said were intended to be a solo project but the band contended were part of their partnership with him.

Vicky Cornell has filed another lawsuit against the surviving members of Soundgarden, this time asking a judge to settle a dispute over how much her stake in the band, inherited from the late Chris Cornell, is worth.
According to court documents obtained by Rolling Stone, the latest salvo in the ongoing spat between Chris Cornell’s widow and the rest of the band came about after Soundgarden fielded an offer from an unnamed third party looking to purchase the band’s recorded music catalog. The offer was reportedly worth $16 million,...

Soundgarden denied withholding royalties from Chris Cornell’s widow and rebuffed her claim that she is the sole owner of several recordings Cornell worked on before his death in a new court filing.
The motion, filed Tuesday and obtained by Rolling Stone, is a response to a lawsuit Vicky Cornell filed last December against her late husband’s former bandmates, Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron and Ben Shepherd, and the band’s business manager, Rit Venerus. Which new Saturday action gameshow deserves to wear Total Wipeout's crown? Den Of Geek investigates...
Saturday nights are all about falling over. Just look at your average British town centre and you’ll see people all over the ground, stranded where they fell. And Saturday night TV is no different.
But since the sad loss of Total Wipeout in 2012, the people of our televisions have been too upright. There just haven’t been the obstacle courses around to trip them up. That’s all changed though, with the BBC’s The Getaway Car taking on ITV’s Ninja Warrior UK in the family-friendly 7pm-ish timeslot.
But are either of them a worthy successor to the great of the genre?

Many Brits were greeted with the presence of Piers Morgan on their televisions this morning (April 13), as he made his Good Morning Britain co-hosting debut.
Filling in for Ben Shepherd for a week, he began the day by noting that Susanna Reid "looked like a giant, glowing daffodil" in her yellow dress.
During his first day he also interviewed Labour's shadow chancellor Ed Balls, referring to him as Darth Vader and telling him that he is "allowed to laugh".
He also showed his cheeky side. After Reid commented that Zac Efron is the "wrong age bracket" for her, he replied: "That's not what I've heard".
Morgan didn't appear to batter an eyelid when guest Alain Robert dropped an F-bomb, leaving Reid to apologise for the bad language.
Later in the show, he noted that Gmb was the number five trending item in Britain, before adding: "Not sure it's for the right reasons,...

ITV1's new Saturday night show Ninja Warrior UK hit our screens for the first time tonight.
Based on a Japanese original and already adapted for an American audience, those versions have already been screened on various channels in the UK. ITV has now created its own version of the hit show with British contestants ranging from firefighters and pole fitness instructors to family care workers and wedding singers.
Ben Shepherd, Rochelle Humes and Chris Kamara are fronting the show but what was the reaction to it? Digital Spy took a closer look at Twitter during the show to find out.
First impressions were similarities with other shows - which, let's be honest, is expected. An obstacle course show is an obstacle course show:
Itv's ninja warrior is the biggest rip-off of total wipeout, however they are forgiven for getting Chris kamara on my TV

Members of Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Queens of the Stone Age and Off! have formed a new unnamed side project and have already recorded the basis for 10 songs. The group is Soundgarden’s Ben Shepherd, Soundgarden/Pearl Jam’s Matt Cameron, Off!’s Dimitri Coats, and Alain Johannes, best known for his work with Qotsa, Them Crooked Vultures, and Eleven. Coats will be the primarily vocalist, he told Billboard, with Johannes also contributing vocals. The ad-hoc group has Facebook to thank for its formation. Coats says he sent Cameron a Facebook note complimenting him on his drumming and Cameron wrote back that he was a big Coats fan and told him about a side project that he, Shepherd and Johannes started in 2008. Coats mentioned he’d love to be part of it and shortly thereafter jointed the guys in Seattle and began laying down tracks. “ I think we’re all in...

Kate Garraway has revealed that she will be part of ITV's new breakfast show Good Morning Britain.
The new show will replace the current Daybreak format later this year. Former BBC Breakfast presenter Susanna Reid is taking over hosting duties with Ben Shepherd.
When Daybreak first launched in 2010, Garraway was appointed as entertainment editor. She later became a temporary host after Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles were axed.
Speaking to Bang Showbiz, Garraway said that she was "staying with Daybreak, and then the new show".
''I think I've probably got more in me. I've been in breakfast TV for 16 years ... BBC, then Sky, and then GMTV, and then Daybreak, and now the new show that's to come.''
She added: "Weirdly, I think now I've got a more varied broadcasting life than ever before, because I've got radio, and BBC and ITV, and the Travel Channel.

Wasn't easy to whittle this list down to 10, let alone 11, so I picked 12 for 12-12-12. A few of these selections were last minute additions that knocked two other picks out of top spots. Moreover, I decided to include twelve more picks at the end of my selections to show what else was being considered.
Nada Surf The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy (Barsuk)
I've not seen this album on any critics' year-end lists (aside from my managing editor Steve's list, obviously). Not sure why, because Nada Surf released a timeless collection of alt pop-rock songs. This is songwriting 101 -- verse, chorus, verse, bridge. If there is a better pop-rock band in America, let me know. Twenty years in and no sign of lazy rock star bullshit, just plenty of great chiming guitar riffs and hooky-as-hell tunes. Album of the year.

Happy Thanksgiving. It's been a terrific month for mining new music. I caught an advance screening of Led Zeppelin's new concert movie at MoMA (and their press conference), discovered what may be my favorite album of the year, and found inspiring young musicians sharing their chops and muses with the world. With the holidays around the corner, here are some early suggestions for music very much worth sharing with friends, lovers, bosses, and family.
"You're So Great / It's All Right, Ma" Wendy James You're So Great E.P. (Cobraside)
If Brit-born/NYC-based Ms. James's claim-to-fame-band Transvision Vamp was a tad too sugar-pop coated for your New Yawk punk rawk palette, not to worry. Thanks to guitarist James Williamson (Iggy Pop Stooge) and drummer James Sclavunos (Nick Cave alumnus), she's found some downtown 'tude. The A-side is a fun retro Ramones-style punk ditty, but it's the flip-side Grinderman-grind Dylan cover where it all comes together.

The head of digital at Maxus is to leave the agency’s Sydney office.
Tom Kelshaw, a well respected practitioner who joined the GroupM media agency in January 2010, is to move from Sydney to Singapore to take on a regional role for the young network.
David Gaines, CEO of Maxus Australia, called the move a “double edged sword” for the agency, which some months ago saw head of search David Sanderson take the same path as Kelshaw to Singapore to be regional head of search.
Gaines told Mumbrella in a statement: “In Australia, there are key parts of the Maxus product we are building that have become part of the template for the agency, not just regionally but globally too.”
“Tom’s been one of the critical parts of that talent mix and increasingly we are working on how we can use his skill set to help us accelerate digital integration in our other offices.

Soundgarden have described Avengers single 'Live to Rise' as the darkest thing to ever be associated with Disney. In an interview with Digital Spy, bassist Ben Shepherd explained the difficulties of recording material for a different audience. He said: "I personally never think about what studios or people like that want, but they said it couldn't be as extremely hardcore as some Soundgarden material. We didn't want to scare off families, so it had to be toned down a little. "But it was fine. The lyrics are still beautiful, powerful and dark. We're probably the darkest band to ever be (more)...

As the music world gears up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's Nevermind, it's also bears mention that there were no shortage of other magical, massive and equally mythological albums that hit stores in 1991. To celebrate the year when rock truly rocked, MTV News has been asking some of today's biggest acts (everyone from Blink-182 to DJ Skrillex) to remember their favorite albums from that truly epic year.
So far, we've looked back at Metallica's Black Album, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Dinosaur Jr.'s Green Mind, My Bloody Valentine's Loveless and Slint's Spiderland. And now, a couple of professional music fans reminisce about two other game-changing 1991 releases: Pearl Jam's Ten and Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger:

Empire Presents Big Screen, Day 2: ‘Kill List,’ ‘Anonymous,’ ‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,’ and more
One of the more interesting strands to Empire’s Big Screen programming for film fans who are a little longer in the tooth was the ‘classics’ strand, where movies that have proved enduringly popular with the magazines readership over the past twenty years were awarded a rare big screen outing. Inevitably the main buzz of activity for the festival centred around the o2 Indigo and Superscreen spaces where new trailers, previews and clips drew the larger, debut hunting crowds, for the slightly more venerable members of the audience a chance to catch some slightly more left-field material was a refreshing antidote to the studio’s unrelenting marketing efforts. As a long time disciple of John Carpenter, it was a treat therefore to catch a very public screening of his first film Dark Star, his initial foray into Sf with college friend Dan O’Bannon (the writer of Alien four years...

The game show - which is due to be broadcast this August and produced by Maverick TV - will see two teams battle it out each week in a construction challenge and embark upon a frantic race against time to win a £5,000 prize, which is trapped in an encoded safe. All the contestants need to do to win the money is open the safe, but in 'Safebreakers' that is easier said than done. Paolo Proto, series producer for Maverick TV, said: "'Safebreakers' is a rugged boy's own adventure, an entertainment show that celebrates...

Over the next few days, MTV's Newsroom will be featuring items from the upcoming Experience Music Project special exhibit, "Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses," which opens at the Seattle museum on Saturday (April 16). Today's artifacts include the story of the first guitar broken onstage by Kurt Cobain and the first show poster billing the band as Nirvana. The commentary on these objects are provided by exhibit curator Jacob McMurray.
The Broken Guitar: "This is an extremely rare piece. This is actually the first guitar that [Kurt Cobain] ever broke. What I love about this guitar — besides the fact that it has the Mod Squad on it, the Jackson Five and a Monkees logo — is that he broke this at an Evergreen State College party on Halloween of 1998. At this party, they were basically playing to 50 people total. This isn't Jimi Hendrix or the Who at the height of their power. These guys can't even pay rent,...

The sounds of Soundgarden are back, and live, might we add. In 2010, Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd and Matt Cameron reunited after a 13-year absence and have upheld their promise to release their first-ever live track collection album, Live on I5, on March 22nd, 2011 via UMe. Live on I5 refers to the Interstate 5, which runs up and down the West Coast. The compilation features fan favorites tracks like, “Spoonman,” “Rusty Cage,” “Burden In My Hand,” and “Black Hole Sun.” And it only gets better. The album also includes two bonus tracks, which are covers of the Beatles tune, “Helter Skelter” and The Stooges’ “Search & Destroy.” [...]...

ITV1 has reportedly called urgent talks after a waxing feature on This Morning prompted viewer complaints. Holly Willoughby and Ben Shepherd presented the segment, which saw several men in G-strings having their hairy bottoms waxed by Louie Spence. The Mirror claims that several 'overly-graphic' shots were accidentally broadcast - breaking previously set out guidelines. Having re-watched the footage, ITV's controller of Daytime Fiona Keenaghan apparently met with executives to discuss the programme. "There is a real worry that This Morning is trying too hard to please and is getting increasingly tacky," a source told the paper. "It's been dubbed 'Carry on (more)...

Rocker Ben Shepherd has spoken out to clarify reports he's "homeless", insisting his current "couch surfing" predicament cannot compare to the harsh conditions facing those sleeping rough on the streets. In an interview with Spin magazine, the Soundgarden bassist was quoted as saying he's been living on "studio couches and at friends' houses" because he is "totally broke" - but Shepherd insists his problems are not as "exciting" as the journalist suggests.
In a statement posted on the band's official website, Shepherd explains, "I feel the banner saying that I am homeless was merely a sensationalizing stunt done by workers at Spin magazine to sell their story, or make it seem more exciting than it actually is. It makes me feel embarrassed for the truly homeless people to be associated at all in any way with the likes of me. I seem to have been lucky, as most of you...

Seattle — On Friday night, 13 years after last taking the stage together, the members of grunge-era band Soundgarden reunited in front of about 1,000 fans at Seattle's Showbox at the Market for a rousing performance that kicked off with fan favorite "Spoonman" and closed with a cover of the Doors' "Waiting for the Sun."
The surprise performance comes just four months after singer Chris Cornell proclaimed that Soundgarden would return to action. Since that January announcement, the band's inclusion in August's Lollapalooza festival in Chicago had been made public, but no additional concert dates had been set.
On Thursday afternoon, Seattle radio station 107.7 "The End" began tweeting about the possibility of a "secret" show, and news soon spread that fans on the band's...

On New Year's Day, Soundgarden put aside a decade-plus of acrimony (and Audioslave) and announced that they were re-uniting, for … well, they didn't exactly say why they were doing it, but we'll assume it had something to do with the promise of plum festival headlining slots, sold-out arena shows and, of course, boatloads of cash. Because, really, we can't see any other reason why they'd get back together.
Make no mistake about it: Though Soundgarden's 1997 split lacked the fireworks with which most mega-successful, multi-platinum rock acts tend to implode, it was by no means a friendly thing. Worn out by years on the road and weakened by the internal struggle between frontman Chris Cornell and guitarist Kim Thayil, Soundgarden played their final gig on February 9 in Honolulu, Hawaii, walked off stage and simply disbanded. Since then, nearly every member has said repeatedly that a reunion would never happen, and the...
