Tales of Babylon, an Indie dark crime comedy by Pelayo De Lario, is a testament to why I love cinema. Pelayo de Lario is not yet an established name in the industry, but I have a feeling that it’s going to happen very soon. This movie is also a reason why I like British humor. Well, I’m not going to lie, British humor can be pretty disturbing and even very contextual, but it’s also quite eccentric and deadpan nonetheless. Perhaps the most accurate word to describe this form of humor would be ‘cheeky.’ Coming back to this movie, one can’t help but draw similarities between Martin McDonagh’s In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths, Taratino’s Pulp Fiction, and Pelayo De Lario’s Tales of Babylon. As a matter of fact, one of the characters quite openly breaks the fourth wall by referring to Pulp Fiction during...

Peyton (Amber Marshall) and Trevor (Ben Mehl) may start off on the wrong foot in My Christmas Guide, but as TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the November 2 movie shows, they quickly recover. Trevor visits the Best Friend Guide Dogs Training Center, where Peyton works, with his daughter Annie (Ava Weiss). “You wouldn’t happen to be the person who left some information on guide dogs at my daughter’s school, would you?” Trevor asks Peyton after she approaches them. She was. As she explains, “I was out training one of our dogs and I saw you and thought maybe we could help.” However, Trevor’s not exactly happy. “Thank you for being so presumptuous,” he tells her. “Because of that, my daughter insisted that we come here today.” But Annie thinks they’re right where they need to be. “My dad needs a guide dog — bad,” she says.

But we can point you to some other equally binge-worthy shows like Virgin River on Netflix that should keep you entertained while you wait for new episodes.

Viewers of the beloved drama Heartland have grown up with Amber Marshall. The actress, 35, has portrayed Amy Fleming for more than 15 years, over 250 episodes and counting with season 17 now in production. The series, based on the bestselling books, follows the Bartlett-Fleming family and is set in the picturesque backdrop along the rolling foothills of the Rockies in the fictional town of Hudson, Alberta. Amy enjoys the ranch life surrounded by horses she has cared for and open space. Though the rural setting has been anything but easy living. Much like Amy, Marshall and the rest of the cast have dealt with their own share of loss. One of the show’s stars, Robert Cormier, who played her love interest in Finn Cotter, died last September after a fall. Despite being the longest-running television drama in Canadian TV history, the show continues to build on its existing audience beyond the Great White North.

Amber Marshall is opening up about the tragic loss of Robert Cormier.
The “Heartland” star said the cast of the show was hit hard by the news of his death, but it hurt her on a personal level due to the story they were building between their characters.
“I was working very closely with him and we were building this story between the two characters. And I was really excited about where this story was going,” Marshall shared with Et’s Brittnee Blair. “So not only was his passing kind of was a surprise and a shock to all of us, but then going, okay, how do we move forward with this?”
The most important part in wrapping up Cormier’s character Finn Cotter’s storyline for the team was figuring out how to do it in a respectful way that honoured his work.

The wholesome family saga “Heartland” almost galloped onto the small screen without Jessica Amlee back in Oct. 14, 2007. The Canadian actress and her teenage character, Mallory Wells, were not initially part of the pilot. “They added me in because they needed a younger face,” Amlee tells Et Canada. Flash forward to January 2023, when Heartland will be celebrating its 245th episode. Amlee, for one, can’t help but marvel at the show’s longevity.
“I remember in the first season, I think it was the third episode, we had discovered how many people were watching ‘Heartland’ at the time,” Amlee recalls. “We were shocked it got picked up for a second season. We were living off that high of, ‘Wow, people are actually watching.’ At the time, 500,000 people were watching. It was this huge deal. Then, I started looking up how many people were watching ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and was like, ‘Ours isn’t that many people.

The demise of the CBC has always been a source of amusement. Hardy har har. This year, however, the Canadian broadcaster is in on the joke. Sure, it may have cancelled ratings hit Battle of the Blades -- along with Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!, but it clearly had no choice. Blades was too expensive to produce, while the rights to the game shows were equally costly.
During last week's upfront presentation, Kirstine Stewart, executive vice-president of English services, said the CBC was "moving forward" -- and she wasn't kidding. The broadcaster will continue to do what it's always done -- support 100 per cent Canadian content while entertaining its loyal fans; just in a less extravagant way (unlike this year's season preview, which was the biggest I've ever seen from the network).
Arctic Air star Pascale Hutton loved the spectacle. "It's this idea that we really need to promote our shows and promote our talent,...

Toronto -- First-time TV producer Michael Weinberg in 2004 put a bet on horses that has paid off like no other for the career investment banker.
"Heartland," Weinberg's Canadian horses-and-heartache family drama now its fourth season, has been cleared in 97% of the U.S. syndicated market for the fall season.
And to get to his U.S. deal, a Montrealer that lived by numbers had to overcome an unexpected obstacle: listening to his gut.
"When I was an investment banker my whole life, no decision was ever made without numbers. If the numbers said do this, that's what you did," Weinberg recalled.
"In this business (TV), there really aren't any numbers. You have to go with your instinct, you have to go with your gut," he added.
What's more, the banker was no big fan of TV: "Like everyone else who watches television, I was saying to myself, every time I want to watch something,...
