There’s a new horror film called The Home coming our way from The Purge franchise creator James DeMonaco – and Deadline reports that Lionsgate has picked up the U.S. distribution rights to the film with the plan to give it a theatrical release sometime in early 2024.
Scripted by DeMonaco and Adam Canto, The Home sees Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live) taking on the role of Max, a troubled man who starts working at a retirement home and realizes its residents and caretakers harbor sinister secrets. As he investigates the building and its forbidden fourth floor, he starts to uncover connections to his own past and upbringing as a foster child.
Marilee Talkington (See), Matthew Miniero (Boarding School), David Moreland (Donnie Darko), Jimmy Gary Jr. (Orange Is the New Black), Daphne Rey (Abbott Elementary), and Jagger Nelson (The Last Nazi) are also in the cast.

While we continue to wait to hear if The Purge franchise creator James DeMonaco is going to have the opportunity to make The Purge 6 (last we heard, he was sounding confident that the sequel is going to happen), DeMonaco has been hard at work on another horror project, The Home. First discussed in 2021, that film stars Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live) – and the Motion Picture Association ratings board has just revealed that The Home has earned an R rating for strong bloody violence and gore, language and some sexual content.
The film doesn’t have a release date yet, but now that it has a rating its release shouldn’t be too far off.

The Purge franchise creator James DeMonaco is hoping to make The Purge 6 – and he’s sounding confident that the sequel is going to happen. But before that project goes into production, DeMonaco is wrapping up work on a different horror project, The Home. First discussed in 2021, that film stars Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live) – and during an interview with Variety, DeMonaco said that the actor, best known for his comedic performances, is not funny in their horror thriller collaboration.
DeMonaco said, “He’s not funny in it, to be quite honest. This is a very, very dramatic, straightforward role. He’s the straight man while chaos is happening all around him and he’s reacting to it. But he just came in knowing what he had to do and he stepped up completely.“

The annual Purge continues even after the sirens stop in the official trailer for Everardo Gout's The Forever Purge, coming to theaters on July 2nd:
"This summer, all the rules are broken as a sect of lawless marauders decides that the annual Purge does not stop at daybreak and instead should never end in The Forever Purge.
Blumhouse’s infamous terror franchise hurtles into innovative new territory as members of an underground movement, no longer satisfied with one annual night of anarchy and murder, decide to overtake America through an unending campaign of mayhem and massacre. No one is safe.
Adela and her husband Juan live in Texas, where Juan is working as a ranch hand for the wealthy Tucker family. Juan impresses the Tucker patriarch, Caleb, but that fuels the jealous anger of Caleb’s son, Dylan.

Everardo Gout directs the movie opening from Universal on July 2
What if the annual Purge didn’t stop at daybreak and instead continued its streak of murderous, lawless mayhem forever? That’s the premise of “The Forever Purge,” in which a sect of marauders conspire to make sure this year’s Purge has no end.
“The Forever Purge” is the fifth and potentially final film in the horror franchise, which imagines an America in which crime has largely been eradicated by making all crime, including murder, legal for one day only.
Over the years, the franchise has evolved from a simple home invasion movie to a social commentary and satire about elections and American politics.
This latest entry aims to continue that streak. Everardo Gout, who has been a director on series including “Mars,” “The Terror” and “Snowpiercer,” is taking over directing duties on “The Forever Purge,” and the franchise’s original writer,...

In a snap, Universal was ready to backfill July 2 today with its long-awaited Blumhouse sequel The Forever Purge with the news of Paramount/Skydance’s Top Gun: Maverick leaving the Fourth of July weekend for Nov. 19. The last two Purge movies, 2018’s The First Purge and 2016’s Purge: Election Year played the July 4th corridor.
The Forever Purge moves up from July 9 to become the lone Independence Day weekend release in the wake of Uni’s June 25 launch of F9 and ahead of Disney’s July 9 release of Marvel’s Black Widow (which now has an easy grab at Imax screens after Top Gun 2‘s flight to November).’
Sony’s Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, which had been set for July 2, moved up two weeks to June 18 today.

Universal-Blumhouse’s The Forever Purge, which was dated for July 10 prior to Warner Bros.’ The Tenet, is now unset. Solstice Studios’ Russell Crowe road rage movie Unhinged on July 1 remains the first wide release back for those cinemas reopening.
We hear there is no determination yet as to whether Forever Purge goes to Pvod, which is where Universal released Trolls World Tour to a near $100M revenue and has the Judd Apatow movie The King of Staten Island scheduled to go on June 12. Given the uncertainty of the theatrical business right now, another date on the release calendar is being assessed for Forever Purge.

Both “The Purge” and “Treadstone” have been canceled at USA Network, Variety has confirmed.
“The Purge” aired two seasons on the cabler while “Treadstone” had aired one. Both were produced at least in part by Ucp and based on Universal film franchises, with “Treadstone” being set in the “Bourne” universe.
The cancellations come roughly two weeks after USA canceled freshman drama “Dare Me.” Like many cable networks of late, USA is moving more toward unscripted programming like “Temptation Island” and “The Biggest Loser,” as well as the network’s flagship show “Monday Night Raw” from WWE. The network is also focusing on more event-style scripted programming, like its upcoming Evel Knievel limited series starring Milo Ventimiglia. USA will also air the upcoming second season of “Dirty John,” with Season 1 having aired on fellow NBCUniversal network Bravo.

Six-and-a-half years after Ethan Hawke starred in the Blumhouse hit The Purge he will return to the film’s dark, dystopian mythology via the namesake USA series. The episode airs December 17 at 9/8C .

USA dropped the first trailer for the second season of “The Purge” on Friday, and it seems like the powers-that-be may be realizing that letting people slaughter each other without consequence may not have been their best idea.
Based on the hit movie franchise, “The Purge” revolves around a 12-hour period when all crime, including murder, is legal. Season 2 explores how a single Purge night affects the lives of four interconnected characters over the course of the ensuing year, all inevitably leading up to the next Purge.
“The Purge is making people more violent, not just on Purge but every day of the year,” one character warns in the trailer. Who could possibly have seen that coming?

With our current decade almost at its end, it’s interesting to reflect on how many new horror franchises have popped up during that time frame – and a fair amount of them were actually hatched over at Blumhouse. In addition to bringing us thrilling sagas such as Insidious, Happy Death Day and Sinister – the latter of which was cut too short due to an under-performing sequel – The Purge series has emerged as one of the best nail-biters in modern cinema, at least in my view.
To be completely honest, I wasn’t entirely enthralled by the original Purge flick, but it was the sequel that really caught my attention because that’s where the “all crime is legal for twelve hours” concept was truly given room to thrive. Then, we we treated to yet another sequel, a prequel and even a TV series. Who could’ve dreamed the story would come so far?...

“The Purge” takes place for 12 hours over the course of one night, so no matter how many two-hour movies Blumhouse pumps out, they can’t capture the constant fear felt for so long during that one, fictional night where anything is legal — including murder.
But you know what can? A TV show.
Billed as a 10-hour event series capturing the 12 hours of terror on Purge Night, the USA Network adaptation of “The Purge” (produced by Blumhouse TV) released a new trailer at San Diego Comic-Con 2018. You can watch it below for a taste of the terror to come.
For more, check out the official synopsis below:
Based on the hit movie franchise from Blumhouse Productions, “The Purge” revolves around a 12-hour period when all crime, including murder, is legal. Set in an altered America ruled by a totalitarian political party, the series follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city.

“What is America?” begins a new trailer USA/Syfy’s The Purge series. “America is, we’ve been told, the land of the free, so tell me then, what is more American than The Purge?” The trailer was unveiled during the show’s panel Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con, which featured producer Jason Blum, Purge creator James DeMonaco, director Anthony Hemingway, producer Brad Fuller, showrunner Tom Kelly, the film’s star Lex Scott Davis and series stars Amanda Warren, Gabriel Chavarria and Fiona Dourif.
The new trailer expands on a version released in June. The series, which takes place between the first and second films, is set in an altered America ruled by a totalitarian political party, the series follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city. As the clock winds down, each character is forced to reckon with their past as they discover how far they will go to survive the night.

After a record-breaking second quarter, the domestic box office shows no signs of slowing down.
July looks to start strong as “Ant-Man and the Wasp” eyes a debut between $70 million and $80 million when it launches in 4,100 theaters on Friday. Fellow newcomer “The First Purge” is hoping to scare up a solid opening of its own, getting a jump on the Marvel tentpole by opening on the 4th of July. The fourth title in the “Purge” series should earn around $25 million during the five-day period.
If estimates hold, “Ant-Man and the Wasp” will start well ahead of the original “Ant-Man’s” $57 million debut. That Marvel movie went on to earn $519 million globally, including $180 million at the domestic box office. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly reunite as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope van Dyne in the film set between the events of “Captain America: Civil War” and “Avengers: Infinity War.” The follow-up...

Today at the NBC Upfront presentation in NYC Blumhouse CEO, Jason Blum, gave us a little bit of info on what to expect when The Purge tv series debuts next year.
The creators behind the highly successful purge series had mentioned back in April that a TV series was on the way, but many of us were left to speculate exactly what the series would be about. Would the series go from movies to TV, giving us a 24-style purge per season? Would they go into the world and politics behind the purge? Well as we have learned the Tv series will take place between purges.
It will give us a glimpse into what goes on for the next 364 day after a Purge is over up to the next purge. You will get to see what motivates a person to pick up a weapon on purge night and go commit a murder.

Expanding the universe introduced in the hit franchise that electrified the culture and earned $200 million at the worldwide box office, Universal Pictures’ The Purge: Election Year reveals the next terrifying chapter that occurs over 12 hours of annual lawlessness sanctioned by the New Founders of America to keep this country great.
It’s been two years since Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) stopped himself from a regrettable act of revenge on Purge Night. Now serving as head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), his mission is to protect her in a run for president and survive the annual ritual that targets the poor and innocent. But when a betrayal forces them onto the streets of D.C. on the one night when no help is available, they must stay alive until dawn…or both be sacrificed for their sins against the state.

The Purge is one of those franchises that manages to rest heavily on its amazing premise. The first two films weren't great in execution, but where they failed in execution, they certainly have made up for in world building. Simply put, a dystopian world as shown in these films is infinitely intriguing, and as such, I find myself coming back to these films more excited than the last, despite being underwhelmed each time.
This year's The Purge: Election Year continues with the mythology established in The Purge: Anarchy, following a senator whose goal it is to get rid of the Purge altogether. Needless to say, this puts quite a target on her back come Purge night.
The first trailer was very story-centric, but this time around, it looks like the studio has opted to focus on the creepy atmosphere and violent set pieces.

The Purge is definitely a unique beast of a franchise. The premise is beyond amazing, but the execution so far for both films has been problematic, to say the least. Yet despite the rough two entries, when I left both of them, I thought, "yeah, I'd see another." There's just so much latent potential in the setup that I know at some point they're sure to strike the right chords. Will this third film be the charm? Possibly. If the recent trailer is any indication, then there's a good chance.
But don't take my word for it, check out the trailer below!
