Rodolphe Belmer, the former CEO of Canal+ Group, who recently took the helm of France’s leading commercial channel TF1, said the company looks to forge deeper ties with streaming services, including Netflix, to team on premium content.
Belmer, who was part of Netflix’s administration board from 2018 to 2022, explained TF1 is facing a dearth of U.S. content available for its primetime slots. “U.S. series are less and less available because of the vertical integration of big U.S. production companies and networks, so we have to replace the bulk of these programs,” said Belmer, who recently succeeded to Gilles Pelisson as CEO and chairman of TF1.
The French executive pointed out these U.S. shows are not easy to replace because they pulled some of the highest ratings on primetime TF1 and were “very profitable because the costs to acquire them were largely below the advertising revenues they generated.

France’s TF1 Group has posted a positive set of results for the first half of 2022, as Covid-19 pandemic challenges which weighed on turnover in 2020 and 2021 continue to subside.

London-based Headline Pictures (“Kin”) and French banner Itineraire Productions (“Oussekine”) are set to produce together “Who Killed Lady Di?,” a drama mini-series set in the aftermath of Princess Diana’s death in Paris in 1997.
The series re-teams Itineraire Productions with Julien Lilti, the up-and-coming creator and screenwriter of Disney Plus Star’s original series “Oussekine” and Canal Plus hit show “Hyppocrates.” Lilti is writing the scripts for “Who Killed Lady Di” with the collaboration of Martine Monteil, who led the criminal investigation division of the French police at the time of Diana Spencer’s death.
Princess Diana died alonside Dodi Fayed, the Egyptian film producer, in a car crash in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel following a high-speed pursuit with paparazzi. Through multiple perspectives, the series will shed light on the challenging investigation and the wild conspiracies that emerged around the world in the wake of the tragedy.

Opting for a different approach to Gaumont’s or large media groups like Mediawan, the company has been building its label Ugc Series as a coalition of independently-ran production companies under the leadership of Laurence Lenica, a veteran Ugc executive, and Franck Calderon, a well-known writer, producer and former boss of TF1 Productions.

[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for “Safe” Season 1 on Netflix, including the ending.]
There isn’t likely to be a “Safe” Season 2, and anyone who’s finished the first season knows why.
Still, in an age of inexplicable renewals and extended limited series, it never hurts to have confirmation, and creator Harlan Coben provided as much as he could — on screen and off. In an interview with Digital Spy that emphasized all the answers to the Netflix murder-mystery were in Season 1, Coben said he wouldn’t “rule out” a Season 2, but later added he doubts it will ever happen.
That’s pretty emphatic as far as creator speculation goes, and Coben speaks even more clearly via the final episode: As a soapy, twist-driven mystery, “Safe” is all wrapped up. Rather than throw in a last-second reveal that upended the answers that had been building over the last few episodes, Coben chose to structure his project as eight episodes and out.

The first word uttered by Michael C. Hall in “Safe” — the Netflix murder-mystery that has so much more going on than that identifier implies — is “sorry.” He’s apologizing to his daughter for grabbing her hand at a funeral, so he says it quietly. Her response is louder and clearer: “Yeah, right.” Clearly, there’s friction there, but there’s something else going on, too. Is that… an accent?
It is, but it will take one year to confirm as much. Luckily, unlike other bloated Netflix originals, “Safe” moves through a year in less time than a title sequence, so with the click of a “skip intro” button, you’re immersed in the full British intonation of the former “Six Feet Under” star. Much like the series’ overall rapidity, it’s jarring at first. Hearing Dexter say “community barbecue” like “comm-un-it-y buh-bah-coo” could send you into a giggle fit if...

Netflix has released the first trailer for an upcoming new crime thriller called Safe. The series stars Michael C. Hall and he plays a widowed surgeon named Tom Delaney, whose daughter goes missing. The story follows his journey as he goes out looking for her and in the process "begins unearthing dark secrets about the people closest to him in a wealthy gated community."
The series was created by best-selling novelist Harlan Coben (the “Myron Bolitar” novel series) with a screenplay by Danny Brocklehurst. The series also stars Amanda Abbington, Audrey Fleurot, Hannah Arterton, Emmett J. Scanlan, Marc Warren, Nigel Lindsay and Laila Rouass.
I like Michael C. Hall and I've enjoyed the shows that he's made so I'll definitely be checking this new series out. Check out the trailer and let us know if you'll be giving it a shot!

Michael C. Hall has long been a central part in shows closely associated with danger, whether it comes from the characters he plays (“Dexter”) or his characters deal with what comes after (“Six Feet Under”). From the looks of his new Netflix show “Safe,” he’s moved on to playing someone stuck between the two.
In “Safe,” he plays Tom, a surgeon still dealing with the aftermath of his wife’s death a year after it happened. Raising the rest of his family alone, his world gets upended again when one of his daughters goes missing. To make matters even more complicated, he finds out that the community he’s raised his kids in for so long is made up of at least a few people who are not exactly as they seem.

Television is staking more ground in Cannes, and Harlan Coben thinks it’s about time. The author and creator behind Netflix’s upcoming “Safe” returns to the Croisette this weekend to head up the jury at Canneseries, a new TV festival competition taking place along side the annual MipTV market.
“Now that we’re in the golden age of television, I think it’s long overdue,” Coben told IndieWire. “I think everyone now is chomping at the bit for it. I’m really excited. I’m looking forward to walking around the convention hall, and looking at all the variety of TV that’s around, and the new perspectives. When a show starts with the discovery of fifteen frozen bodies on a bus, you know that things are going to get dark. Witnesses: The Complete Series 2 manages to take viewers into a dark place, but the frozen bodies aren’t the most disturbing thing about this French series.
When fifteen frozen bodies are found on a bus, Detective Sandra Winckler (Marie Dompnier) is given the job of finding out who the victims are. When Catherine Keemer (Audrey Fleurot) turns up on the streets suffering from memory loss, with the only memory being her missing baby boy it is soon revealed that the two events are connected.
The second season of Witnesses weaves a tale not only of murder and kidnap, but also historical abuse of children, and in many ways it could be easy to get lost in all the strands the story creates. Thankfully though this isn’t the case,...

Girls Just Wanna Have: Achache’s Breezy Sophomore Feature
After adapting Muriel Barbery’s celebrated novel The Hedgehog for her 2009 debut, director Mona Achache returns with her latest feature, Gazelles, based on the successful one woman show “Camille Attaque” of its star Camille Chamoux. Fans of her fantastic first outing may be a bit disappointed by the slightness of her latest, which feels akin to English language female buddy comedies, but happens to be a bit more refreshing due to its realistic female characters. Given its familiar scenario, Achache and Chamoux manage an energetic rendition of heterosexual female thirtysomethings finding empowerment as they overcome the building ennui of pre-mid-life crises brought on by refusing to accept standards they’ve had no say in creating. But even with its frank, sexual embrace in tow, there is a constant itchy niggle shadowing every scene because that fact of the matter is, we...

Inside Llewyn Davis | August: Osage County | Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit | Teenage | Fonzy | Grudge Match | The General | Dark Days | Jai Ho
Inside Llewyn Davis (15)
(Joel & Ethan Coen, 2013, Us) Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, Adam Driver, Garret Hedlund, John Goodman. 105 mins
Bob Dylan hadn't written Like A Rolling Stone when this is set (New York, 1961), but Isaac's eponymous hero could almost be the inspiration. He's the archetypal drifter: a complete unknown with no direction home and little prospect of realising his folk-star dream, despite, or perhaps because of, his artistic integrity. The Coens let us know exactly how it feels. This is their most mature drama to date: subdued, sincere, bleakly funny, and as finely crafted as we've come to expect.
August: Osage County (15)
(John Wells, 2013, Us) Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts. 121 mins
Heavy acting artillery is positioned for a full-on awards assault, with Streep's malign matriarch marshalling her fractured family for some mourning and bloodletting.
