Laurd Milian is a filmmaker and creator born in Havana, Cuba, who discovered his passion for cinema at an early age. Despite his love for storytelling, the limited opportunities within Cuba's film industry led him to pursue classical singing at the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory under the tutelage of Adolfo Casas Chirino. After graduating, he became an opera soloist for the National Opera House of Cuba.
Upon arriving in the USA, Laurd remained dedicated to his passion for storytelling, shifting his focus to music production and sound engineering at the SAE Institute in Miami. There, he studied film soundtracks and honed his skills as a composer.
Laurd's work caught the attention of students at The Los Angeles Film School, leading to collaborations on film projects as a composer. Realizing the possibilities of a career in filmmaking, he enrolled at the same school, where he wrote, directed, and produced his first short film, "Suono," which garnered awards and recognition from film festivals, both in the United States and abroad.
In April 2023, Laurd Milian received his Bachelor of Science in Film Direction, Summa Cum Laude, from The Los Angeles Film School. Most recently, he was selected from over 7,000 applicants to participate in the 2023 Academy Gold Rising program organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars) for upcoming filmmakers.
Laurd currently focuses his filmmaking work around his Cuban heritage with the short film "Capicúa" and an upcoming biopic as his first feature film with his newly founded production company, Royal Calm Entertainment.
