- Before World War II, Pfeffer and Charlotte Kaletta were planning to get married. After the war broke out, he was forced to go hiding. The Nazis didn't discover the hiding place until in August 1944, but within a month he was sent to a concentration camp and killed there.
- Upon receiving the confirmation of Pfeffer's death, Charlotte Kaletta decided on a posthumous marriage. Otto Frank, the father of Anne Frank, helped her in the legal process. She was married to Pfeffer from 1953 to her death in 1985.
- A collection of letters written by Pfeffer to Charlotte and a box of photographs of him were rescued, with some of Charlotte's possessions, from an Amsterdam fleamarket after her death in 1985.
