Aston Villa have made a £1 million bid for West Brom defender Joleon Lescott, according to the Daily Mail.
The Birmingham club could be left needing some defensive reinforcements following the departure of Ron Vlaar and recent interest in Nathan Baker from relegated Burnley.
With injury problems ruling Jores Okore out until September Sherwood may feel further options are needed ahead of Villa’s first game of the season.
Lescott has been targeted before by Villa but they were unwilling to meet the ex-Man City defender’s wage demands in the Paul Lambert era.
Prior to a bid for Lescott, Villa ironically turned down a bid from the Baggies for Ireland international defender Ciaran Clark.
In some ways a transfer would make sense for Lescott as the ex-England international is a boyhood Villa fan and joining Villa would give Lescott the chance to link up with former Man City team-mate Micah Richards.

Villa are closing in on a loan deal for Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor, according to the Daily Mail.
Tim Sherwood’s side have already tied up a deal for Jordan Ayew following the departure of Christian Benteke to Liverpool and this particular deal could be confirmed this week to cement the Villains’ forward options.
According to the article the Midlands club are confident of the signing despite the striker’s hefty wages (although Villa may not be paying these in full). The deal is reportedly a loan with an option to make the move permanent.
A move for the Togo striker would make a change from some of the younger prospects linked with the club in recent weeks.
Adebayor played well under Sherwood at Tottenham and the Villa manager will no doubt hope that he can get the best from the striker as...
