“When I was a kid, there was a gangster, real old school type,” recalls Oswald Cobblepot at the start of the trailer for The Penguin. Anyone who has seen a gangster flick before recognizes that kind of talk. Henry Hill, Tony Soprano, Michael Corleone — wiseguys love to wax poetic about the past.
It’s no secret that the classic Batman villain was a highlight of 2021’s The Batman, with director Matt Reeves taking a more grounded approach to the bird-themed character that removed the bright colors and gimmicks. The Penguin’s storyline in the movie focused on his rise through the mob and his spinoff series will continue that tale of ascendance, as Cobblepot works to fill the void in the Gotham underworld left in the wake of Carmine Falcone’s death.
But the Penguin isn’t the only mobster from the comics who will appear or be referenced on this gangster show.

Oscar nominee Colin Farrell reprises his role as one of Batman‘s most iconic supervillains in the Max limited series The Penguin. The second teaser trailer focuses on The Penguin as he recalls the story of an old-school gangster and how, when he died, the people of his neighborhood threw a parade in his honor. The minute-and-a-half trailer ends with Oz asking, “Can you imagine, to be remembered like that?”
Joining Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin) in the eight-episode drama are Cristin Milioti (Made for Love) as Carmine Falcone’s daughter, Sofia; Clancy Brown (John Wick: Chapter 4) as Salvatore Maroni; and Michael Zegen (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Carmine’s son, Alberto. The cast also includes Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell.

The sequel to the 2022 superhero hit “The Batman” may have been pushed to 2026, but fans of Matt Reeves’ take on Gotham City will have “The Penguin” to tide them over later this year.
On Friday, Max released a new trailer for the DC Studios limited series starring Colin Farrell as mobster Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin. Farrell’s Penguin was a supporting character in “The Batman” (and one of its best parts), but he gets center stage here as he tries to grab power in Gotham’s underworld after the death of his boss, Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), in “The Batman.”
With Farrell again unrecognizable under layers of prosthetic makeup, Cobb tells a story about Rex Calabrese, a gangster who ran his neighborhood when he was a kid. Calabrese earned people’s respect by helping them out, and when he died, the neighborhood threw a parade in his honor. “Can you imagine,...

Colin Farrell returns to Gotham City as Oz Cobb, aka Oswald Cobblepot, in the trailer for “The Penguin,” a spinoff series of “The Batman” coming this fall to Max.
“The Penguin” takes place immediately following the events of DC’s 2022 blockbuster, tracing Cobblepot’s rise to power in the Gotham underworld as he becomes one of the most prominent villains in the “Batman” universe. Farrell gives a classic gangster monologue throughout the trailer, which slowly ramps up the violence and gunfights in Gotham City’s seedy underground.
“When I was a kid, there was a gangster, real old-school type. Rex Calabrese. He was a big deal. He helped people. He saw you on the street, he’d call out to you,” Cobblepot narrates in the trailer. “When I was 14 or something, he has a heart attack and dies, still holding a cigar. In my neighborhood, they throw a parade in his honor.

Akira Toriyama is the creator of the Dragon Ball franchise. He began the serialization of his magnum opus four decades ago. Even though he passed away a few days ago, his legacy is being carried on by Toyotarou. Toriyama and Toyotarou were the joint mangaka of the Dragon Ball Super manga, but now he will be solely responsible for the manga’s future endeavors.
A few days before Toriyama’s death, the fans were excited to see one of the most anticipated battles in the franchise. Chapter 102 teased a sparring session between Son Goku and Gohan in their most potent form. Dragon Ball Super chapter 103 revealed the first look of the sparring session, and the fans could feel the heat from the battle between father and son.

The highly-anticipated sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman has been pushed back from its original Oct. 3, 2025 release date on the Warner Bros. slate. The movie will now release Oct. 2, 2026. That means there will now be an over four-year gap between the first film, which saw Robert Pattinson don the cape and cowl, and Part II.
This will of course come as disappointing news for DC fans who have been awaiting the second installment in what’s meant to be a whole trilogy of Batman movies from Reeves and Pattinson. But it isn’t all bad news for Batfans, especially if (weirdly) you also happen to be a fan of The Dark Knight. Taking over the Oct. 3, 2025 spot on the slate is another WB production, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!, which is a reimagining of the Bride of Frankenstein, starring Bale, Jessie Buckley, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, and Penelope Cruz. Whether you loved The Batman (2022) or thought it was overhyped, it's hard to find anyone who didn't at least enjoy Colin Farrell's unique take on the Penguin.
So, when it came time to pitch a spin-off, Farrell's scene-stealing crime boss seemed the natural choice. He steals your attention anytime he's on the screen, and who doesn't love an epic crime drama?
Details on the new TV series following Oswald Cobblepot are scant at present, but we've managed to dig up a bit of info to whet the appetite.
Has The Penguin Been Greenlit?
Yes, The Penguin is in post-production as of the time of this writing, so go ahead and get excited. This isn't one of those things they announce, and then everyone forgets about it; it's actually happening.
Filming has already wrapped, and now it's simply a matter of waiting for the release date.
How Did The Batman End?...

“The world ain’t built for guys like us.” So says Colin Farrell’s The Penguin in our first official glimpse at the Max series, which is due to air in 2024. It came as part of Max’s “The One to Watch” teaser trailer, which also offered us glimpses of House of the Dragon Season 2, The Regime (starring Kate Winslet), the latest season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, and The Sympathizer, starring Robert Downey Jr.

Yet another production hit by the strikes – TV spin-off The Penguin, starring The Batman’s Colin Farrell – has resumed filming.
Like Beetlejuice 2 and numerous other productions in the works this year, The Penguin was disrupted by the writers’ and actors’ strikes which took place through much of 2023.
The Penguin, the TV spin-off from Matt Reeves’ 2022 film The Batman, originally began filming back in March, only for it to be called off as those strikes began in June. After a lengthy – and most likely, costly – hiatus of about eight months, Variety reports that shooting has now resumed on the TV series.
In it, an unrecognisable Colin Farrell reprises his role as Oswald Cobblepot, who you may remember from Reeves’ film was depicted as a mid-ranking hoodlum rather than the formidable crime boss – unlovingly nicknamed the Penguin – known from the comics. Logically enough, the TV series will chart Cobblepot’s rise...

Our appointment is set for 3 p.m. in the Piazza Mercato, in the heart of Naples, on a hot September day that feels like August. It’s a sunny, deserted and silent square, where three big trucks and two vans are parked. The crew is busy preparing the scene. The grips, working in religious silence, position the camera on a dolly for a tracking shot. We are on the set of The Sea Beyond, season four of the hit series produced by Rai Fiction and Picomedia, about the lives of a group of kids in juvenile prison. The show has been the most successful ever on Rai’s streaming platform, with the first three seasons — which are now also available on Netflix in Italy — generating 220 million views (in a country with a population of 60 million).

“The Bear” follows Carmine (Carmy for short), a young fine-dining chef who comes home to Chicago to run his family’s sandwich shop. As he fights to transform the shop and himself, he works alongside a rough-around-the-edges crew that ultimately reveals themselves as his chosen family.
Season 2 of the series debuts on Hulu on Thursday, June 22. It will drop all 10 episodes at once, using the binge-release method that two-thirds of streaming users prefer. Review embargos on Rotten Tomatoes haven’t been lifted yet for the new episodes, but 100% of critics gave the first season a positive assessment.

It is not easy to watch a drama unfold about women being held up using a remote control, such that they must behave the way the system and society expect them to. This is the story of a mafia family commonly known as the ‘Ndrangheta mafia of the Calabria region of Italy, where women are treated quite differently and are not even asked about what they want from life. Directed by Julian Jarrod and Elisa Amoruso and written for the screen by Stephen Butchard, “The Good Mothers” is all about the leading ladies of the family taking a stand on whether they should keep enduring the disrespect or walk away when the chance comes by. Set in the late 2000s in Italy, this show is a Hulu original that was released on March 5, 2023.

On March 12, once the curtain comes down on the 95th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre, the must-stop afterparty will just be getting started for Oscar nominees — winners and losers alike. This year marks the 65th anniversary of the Governors Ball, but it wasn’t always a coveted invitation — or even a tradition. The first Academy Awards statuettes were handed out in 1929 at a banquet in the Blossom Room of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, but the annual banquet was discontinued during the war years and, by 1958, the ceremony had migrated farther down Hollywood Boulevard to the Pantages Theatre. This meant that once the show was over, the stars were left to fend for themselves. So that year, the Academy charged actor and future California senator George Murphy with chairing a post-Oscars dinner dance, which would take place at the Beverly Hilton hotel. Its venue has changed over the years, but...

If the pilot episode gave us an outline of the series, Night Court Season 1 Episode 2 starts to color in the details.
We see that improving the world drives Abby to engage others in her mission and how that engagement causes the others to react.
And, like the first day in the prison yard, she takes on the biggest challenge first -- turning Dan Fielding into an empathetic, connected public defender.
To be fair, I personally thought Dan's showmanship in defending Carmine was pretty brilliant.
Abby can't accuse him of not putting in an effort since filling the gallery with lookalikes couldn't have been easy.
Of course, it's not helpful when your client confesses his crime in the middle of the courtroom, but even then, Dan is able to pivot to a talking point.
On a show as fast-paced as this one, it's easy to let the incidental cases slide by in a blur.
