After six weeks of testimony and nearly 14 hours of deliberations, a Joliet, Ill., jury found ex-cop Drew Peterson guilty of the 2004 murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, on Thursday. "We got the bastard," Savio's brother-in-law, Mitch Doman, said as he left the courtroom, the Hearld-News reported. As the verdict was read, Doman started crying and hugged Savio's sisters, Anna and Sue Doman. "At least I know we got justice in the end," Mitch told reporters afterward. Peterson, 58, faces up to 60 years in prison. His sentencing will be November 26. Illinois has no death penalty. "I consider this the first step in a successful appeal,...

Drew Peterson might have found the Lifetime film about him “hysterical”, but the network had the last laugh. The Lifetime Original Movie Drew Peterson: Untouchable drew 5.8 million viewers in its premiere on Saturday to become the most watched movie on cable in two years — since Lifetime’s The Pregnancy Pact on January 23, 2010. It edged the January 2011 hit The Craiglist Killer (5.4 million) in total viewers, though it trailed behind in adults 25-54 (2.5 million vs. 2.7 million) and all key demos, ranking as the Lifetime’s highest-rated movie since then. Untouchable is based on a true story of veteran police officer Drew Peterson and stars Rob Lowe as the disgraced cop awaiting trial for the murder of his third wife following the mysterious disappearance of his fourth wife (played by Kaley Cuoco). As for the real Peterson, in jail on $20 million bail, “he thought (the movie) was hysterical,” his lawyer Joel Brodsky told the AP.

Rob Lowe, set to premiere as murder suspect Drew Peterson in the Lifetime movie "Untouchable" on Jan. 21, said this week that the role of the former Bolingbrook police officer was one that presented significant challenges to him -- in fact, he wasn't even sure he could pull it off.
In an AP interview released Wednesday, Lowe said he wanted to portray Peterson in the film because he was "shocked that they came to me. I couldn't imagine how I was going to do it. I didn't feel like I resembled him on any level and there was no part of my sort of persona or who I am as a person that I can access to play him, so with no idea how I was going to do it, I said, 'Yes.'"
Lowe noted that he is a "news junkie" and was familiar with Peterson before he was offered the role.

Drew Peterson, the former police sergeant accused of murdering his third wife, Kathleen Savio, is the subject of a new Lifetime original movie, "Drew Peterson: Untouchable," which hits the small screen on Jan. 21. Rob Lowe donned Peterson's signature mustache, silver pompadour and uneasy grin to play the lead role.

Drew Peterson, the former Bolingbrook police sergeant and murder suspect in his wife's death, has become the subject of an unauthorized Lifetime network film -- and reportedly heard audio from the made-for-tv movie's trailer Thursday morning.
Peterson's attorney Joel Brodsky played the trailer from "Drew Peterson: Untouchable" to his client over the phone, who laughed and called it "hilarious," according to NBC Chicago.
Peterson's criminal defense team sent a cease and desist letter to the network and producers in July, after he had expressed disappointment that his character would not be played by Denzel Washington. Rob Lowe was announced as the title character in June.
But Brodsky says the Peterson camp is less than amused by the movie's possible side effects. He told the Chicago Tribune his team was researching legal options to stall the film's Jan. 21 broadcast date to preserve the objectivity of Peterson's trial.

He stands accused of murdering his third wife, and is a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth. But through much of the allegations dating to 2004, ex-cop Drew Peterson has simply fanned the interest with his cocky confidence and attention-embracing behavior worthy of a red-carpet celebrity. His kids - including two apiece with each of his wives in the twin mysteries - issued a statement of support when Peterson, now 56, was arrested in May ‘09 and pleaded not guilty to killing Kathleen Savio, 40, whose bathtub drowning was staged to look like an accident, according to Illinois prosecutors. He had replaced the...
