The Pretenders have been announced as the headliners for The Independent’s stage at The Great Escape Festival.
The gig from the legendary rock band will be one of hundreds of live shows at the festival, which takes place between 10-13 May in Brighton.
The Great Escape is a showcase festival that highlights some of the most exciting new and emerging acts in music.
The event is spread across 30 walkable venues throughout the city.
As well as emerging stars, the festival has special shows featuring established acts, such as Arlo Parks, Maisie Peters and now, The Pretenders.
The Independent’s stage will be hosted on Friday 12 May, with Chrissie Hynde’s band announced as the top act.
Other exciting acts on the festival lineup include the likes of Billie Marten, Willie J Healey, Aziya, Arxx and English Teacher.

The Great Escape Festival has just announced another huge wave of acts on its lineup.
The new announcement features over 90 new names, including the likes of Billie Marten, Willie J Healey and Aziya.
The lineup also includes artists such as Deadletter, Bellah, Arxx, Mia Wray and Pozi.
Taking place between 10 to 13 May in Brighton and Hove, the festival hosts gigs across multiple venues throughout the city.
Throughout the week, as many as 500 artists play in 30 walkable gig spaces around the city, with punters able to access as many shows as they can fit in. There is also a pop-up stage situated on Brighton Beach’s seafront area.

If it’s true that good things come to those who wait then Willie J Healey is due for greatness. The indie-funk artist has quietly been chipping away at the music industry for the past decade. But now, with all his ducks in a row, Healey is ready for recognition. At this present moment, though, he and I are trying to wangle our way into a private dining room in a London restaurant for some peace and quiet. One white lie from the sympathetic waitress to her manager and we’re in. Luckily, Healey is dressed the part.
