By virtually any metric, Matt Amodio is one of the most successful quiz show contestants of all time.
The Medina, Ohio native, who now works as a quantitative researcher in New York, burst onto the trivia scene in 2021 with a commanding performance on American game show institution Jeopardy! Amodio would go on to dot his name all over the hallowed Jeopardy! record books, winning 38 consecutive games (third most all time), taking in $1,518,601 in prize-winnings (also third most all time), and finishing third in the inaugural Jeopardy! Masters tournament in 2023.
Now Amodio has returned for the second installment of Jeopardy! Masters alongside familiar competitors James Holzhauer, Amy Schneider, and Mattea Roach; and fresh faces Victoria Groce and Yogesh Raut. This time around, however, the ultra-champ hasn’t done too well. After five episodes (consisting of 10 games), Amodio finds himself in last place – hammering home just how challenging Jeopardy! has become and...

There's a lot to like about Jeopardy tournaments that bring back the show's top-performing contestants and pit them head-to-head in single-elimination battle royales.
But as the film studio execs who kept blowing up the superhero franchise until it exploded have recently learned the hard way, too much of a good thing can lead to alienated audiences.
And now more than ever, once you lose 'em, it's hard to win 'em back.
To be clear, there's no indication that Jeopardy's recent string of tournaments -- the longest in series history -- has had a negative impact on the show's ratings.
But "tournament fatigue" has become a buzzword in the Jeopardy-obsessed corners of social media, and media outlets have begun running editorials alleging that the show has lost its way by focusing too much on past victors.

Jeopardy! is celebrating a significant milestone as it turns 60 years old.
The long-running trivia show has undergone several changes throughout the decades, but if there’s one thing that comes to mind when viewers think of Jeopardy!, it’s Alex Trebek.
Alex served as Jeopardy!’s host for 37 years, and it didn’t take long for him to become a household name.
But Alex had to step down from his position when his battle with pancreatic cancer interfered with his career, and sadly, Alex lost his battle with cancer in November 2020.
Although Alex is gone, he’s certainly not forgotten, as evidenced by a recent campaign announced by Jeopardy!
On Instagram, Jeopardy! announced its 60th birthday in a post dedicated to Alex and his legacy.

Keep reading for more details.
Jeopardy! Honors Alex Trebek During 60th Anniversary
Alex Trebek was synonymous with Jeopardy! for thirty-six years until he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He eventually opted to exit the show and the search for the perfect host was on. Jeopardy!‘s 2024 Tournament of Champions continued to deliver surprises on Tuesday night (February 27) as Season 39 super-champ and fan favorite Hannah Wilson was knocked out of the competition. Wilson’s elimination marked two back-to-back shockers, as 21-game winner and front-runner Cris Pannullo was defeated on Monday (February 26), bringing a premature end to his Toc journey. Tuesday’s game saw Wilson, a puzzle designer from Chicago, Illinois, up against David Sibley, an Episcopal priest from Walla Walla, Washington, and Yungsheng Wang, a deputy public defender originally from Lafayette, Louisiana. Sibley got out to an early lead, proving to be fast on the buzzer and answering 11 clues correctly in the first round. He also found and answered the game’s first Daily Double, even dropping a Salt n Peppa reference for good measure. Wilson fought back in Double Jeopardy and briefly took the lead after landing on a Daily Double and boosting her score.

Ken Jennings says his Jeopardy! rivalry with “villain” James Holzhauer is all for show. In a new episode of Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace (streaming now on Max), host Chris Wallace asks Jennings about his on-screen feud with the Jeopardy champ. Jennings says that Holzhauer intentionally created his villain persona like one would in pro wrestling. “Am I crazy or is there a bit of an edge in your rivalry with James Holzhauer or Jeopardy James? It seems like there’s a little bit of an edge there,” Wallace asked the game show host. As Jennings replies: “The thing you have to understand about James is, he decided at one point in preparing for the show that Jeopardy needed a villain. He’s a pro wrestling fan. And he understands that it makes a game exciting when the audience has a rooting interest. And he puts on this persona as an over-the-top,...

Former Jeopardy! champion Buzzy Cohen has caused quite the buzz with a cryptic tweet that has fans convinced he will be returning to host the long-running game show. Call Me Kat star Mayim Bialik and Jeopardy‘s greatest of all-time Ken Jennings have been sharing hosting duties ever since producer Mike Richards was dropped from the position last year. However, based on some recent tweets, it appears that Cohen might just be coming aboard to host the Celebrity Jeopardy! primetime specials. The speculation started last week after the game show fan account BuzzerBlog tweeted, “100 prepared to be wrong but still not totally believing that the Mayim-hosts-primetime-Jeopardy thing is still here. If that was still a thing I feel like the many press releases talking about Celebrity Jeopardy would have mentioned her by now.” Cohen, who was the Grand Champion of the 2017 Tournament of Champions, replied to the tweet with a Gif of Yoda saying,...

What if the right Jeopardy! host was the obvious choice all along?
Sony Pictures Television, the studio behind Jeopardy!, announced today that two guest hosts will see the beloved quiz show institution through to the end of the calendar year, following the ousting of the former executive producer and the show’s (poor) choice to replace Alex Trebek, Mike Richards.
Former guest host Mayim Bialik, who has already secured a job hosting primetime Jeopardy! specials, will begin her next guest hosting stint on September 20 and end it the first week of November, for seven weeks total. Ken Jennings, the undisputed Jeopardy! Goat, will then take over through December.

When Jeopardy! Goat contestant Brad Rutter spoke to Den of Geek earlier this year, he shared his opinion that there is only one perfect Jeopardy! host to replace the departed Alex Trebek.
“Alex,” Rutter said. “But we can’t do it, unfortunately. That’s one of the terrible things about it. I can’t even really imagine what it’s going to be like.”
Alex Trebek was about as irreplaceable as a TV personality can be. As the host and quiz master of Jeopardy! for 37 years, the Canadian entertainer was the perfect combination of studious, professional, and playful. Following Trebek’s death from pancreatic cancer in November 2020, Jeopardy!’s producers realized there was no point in replacing the TV giant with only one host. That’s why they ultimately decided to go with a roster of multiple guest hosts for the show’s 37th season.

Ryan Reynolds has thrown his support behind LeVar Burton’s ongoing campaign to host Jeopardy!, following EP Mike Richards’ exit from the podium.
The actor said as much—albeit in oblique fashion—in a post published to Twitter on Friday. In it, he shared how he relates to Burton’s experience, given the time he himself spent as an underdog, relentlessly pursuing his dream project.
“Pretty consistently from 2013 to 2015, Deadpool would explode on Twitter with fans wanting me to play him. It was awkward, because I agreed with them. But the studio didn’t see it,” he wrote. “Ultimately, the fans won, and the rest is glorious history. I’m forever grateful. Hi @levarburton.”

After a short tenure as Alex Trebek’s replacement on “Jeopardy,” Mike Richards made the bombshell announcement to step down following a period of resurfaced lawsuits alleging sexist behavior in the workplace and sexist and disparaging remarks made on his previous podcasts. Now, people in Hollywood and Twitter users are weighing in on the news that shocked the game show world.
When asked about if he were offered the hosting gig in an interview recorded on Thursday, guest host and NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers told SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio, “Yeah, I definitely would have. If they would have figured out a way to make it work with my schedule yeah, for sure.”
Minutes before the news of Richards’ exit broke, fan-favorite host LeVar Burton tweeted a simple “Happy Friday, y’all,” which many fans read as a coded comment on the shake-up, although Burton is often greeting his...

“Jeopardy!” has apologized for a clue that used an “outdated and inaccurate term” that had many viewers calling the long-running quiz show “insensitive” and “misogynistic.”
In an episode that aired on Monday, one clue read, “Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome is also known as Grinch syndrome because this organ is too small,” to which the correct answer was “What is the heart?” On Tuesday, the show’s Twitter account posted an apology that read, “Yesterday’s program included a clue about postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (Pots). After hearing from the community, we found we used an outdated and inaccurate term for this disorder, and we apologize.”

Jeopardy! has acknowledged an inaccurate as well as dismissive clue/answer combo that was presented to players on Monday night’s telecast.
The clue read: “Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome is also known as Grinch Syndrome because this organ is too small.” The response/question that was ruled as correct was: “What is the heart?” — though many in the medical community or otherwise familiar with the condition were quick to point out the inaccuracy of the “small heart” answer, as well as take issue with the “Grinch Syndrome” nickname.

Which recently engaged Green Bay Packers quarterback is set to guest host Jeopardy! for a two-week stint starting April 5? Who is Aaron Rodgers? That's right, current NFL Mvp and former Celebrity Jeopardy! winner Rodgers is about to switch things up, asking the questions instead of answering them. He first shared the news back in January, a little ahead of schedule. "I just got so excited . . . [Jeopardy!] has been so special to me over the years. It's been a staple at my house here in Green Bay for the last 16 years - six o'clock watching Alex and trying to get as many questions as I can," he previously said to ESPN. "We all have so much love and affection, I think, for what [Trebek] meant for that half-hour, that 22 minutes of our lives on a daily basis for those of us who were big fans of the show. With the game show vowing to make a donation to her charity of choice based on the 10-day cumulative winnings of the contestants, Couric has raised nearly $200,000 for Stand Up to Cancer so far.

Brayden Smith, the last five-time champion from the late Alex Trebek’s era of Jeopardy!, died on Feb. 5 at age 24. A cause of death has not been disclosed.
Smith’s December 2020 appearances on the long-running game show were among the last hosted by Alex Trebek, pre-taped before the Emmy-winning host’s Nov. 8 passing after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Trebek dubbed Smith “Billy Buzzsaw,” for his ability to cut through the competition.

Fourteen suits, 58 dress shirts, 300 neckties and various other items of clothing that once belonged to Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek have been donated by the show and the Trebek family to The Doe Fund, an organization that provides paid work, housing, vocational training, continuing education, and comprehensive social services to underserved Americans with histories of addiction, homelessness, and incarceration.
At the suggestion of Trebek’s son Matthew Trebek, a supporter of The Doe Fund, the clothing will be distributed to those participating in the organization’s “Ready, Willing and Able” reentry program to be worn on job interviews.
“During his last day on set, Alex extolled the virtues of everyone opening up their hands and their hearts to those who are suffering,” said Mike Richards, Executive Producer, Jeopardy!. “Donating his wardrobe to those who are working to rebuild their lives is the perfect way to begin to honor that last request.

It’s just about impossible to replace the man who hosted “Jeopardy” for nearly four decades and more than 8,000 episodes, but somebody will have to take over Alex Trebek’s legacy sooner or later. Whoever they pick among the guests hosts Sony is trying out won’t satisfy everyone, but there’s one person slated for one of those guests slots who a whole lot of fans — and even some past contestants! — are already rejecting: Mehmet Oz, aka Dr. Oz, whose guest spot was revealed Tuesday evening.
There’s going to be some level of negative response to every one of the guest hosts — how could there not be, since none of them are Trebek? Plus, you know, there’s no option that everyone likes. So some amount of grumbling from “Jeopardy” fans is to be expected.
But the backlash to Dr. Oz on social media is a bit more acute than just some grumbling.

A question about a famous comedian on Wednesday’s episode of “Jeopardy!” had Twitter up in arms after all three contestants failed to identify him.
None of the three contestants could recognize a photo of Dave Chappelle, the funny man behind the iconic “Chappelle Show,” several Netflix stand-up specials including 2019’s “Sticks & Stones,” and in pre-pandemic years, a series of live shows where he teamed up with musician John Mayer to blend music and comedy called “Controlled Danger.”
In addition to a photo of the star, they were even given the following clue: “This comedian displayed his drama chops in ‘A Star Is Born,’ playing Bradley Cooper’s longtime friend.”
It seems that the contestants — Brian Chang, an attorney from Chicago, Alex Cohn, a psychiatry resident physician from Los Angeles, and Erica Holenick, a provider data specialist from Portland, Oregon — have never seen “A Star Is Born” either, because none...

Beloved “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek sadly passed away at age 80 on Nov. 8 after a battle with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Here are 9 things we’ll miss about Alex, courtesy of a biography of the host written by Lisa Rogak called “Who Is Alex Trebek?” out now from Macmillan Publishers.
To so many viewers, he felt like a member of the family
“I’ve been on the air for fifty years, so I’m like a member of the family,” Trebek once said, according to Rogak.
Added Jonah Engel Bromwich, a domestic correspondent with The New York Times: “When you arrive in a hotel room where you have no real sense of where you are, turning Jeopardy! on is always kind of a grounding experience.”

Jeopardy! kicked off the final week of episodes hosted by Alex Trebek on Monday night. In the first episode of the week, the late and beloved trivia game host shared a message of kindness and empathy.
“This is the season of giving. I know you want to be generous with your family, your friends, your loved ones, but today I’d like you to go one step further,” Trebek said in the episode, which aired nearly a month after his death. “I’d like you to open up your hands and open up your hearts to those who are still suffering because of Covid-19 – people who are suffering through no fault of their own.”
The posthumous message, though recorded in late October, comes as the United States continues to experience dark periods in the coronavirus pandemic. To date Johns Hopkins has reported upwards 20 million Covid-19 cases and over 350,000 deaths related to the infectious disease.

The pandemic didn’t slow down the NFL, which once again dominated Variety’s ranker of the most-watched television telecasts of the year. No surprise, of course, Super Bowl Liv was easily the top program of 2020, with 102 million viewers on February 2.
Actually, seven of the ten telecasts of the year came from the NFL, and 28 out of the top 100 of the year. The other major sports leagues weren’t as lucky: Impacted by delayed seasons and playoffs due to Covid-19, only Game 6 of baseball’s World Series made it on the top 100 list, while the NBA Finals completely missed the ranker this year. And that’s despite teams from the nation’s second-largest market, Los Angeles, winning both of them.
Scripted series accounted for 39 of the top 100 slots, while competition series took up nine spots. The Season 4 post-Super Bowl premiere of “The Masked Singer” was easily the most-watched entertainment program of the year,...
