There was talk that Brotherhood of the Wolf and Silent Hill director Christophe Gans’ new Silent Hill movie Return to Silent Hill, which is said to be “totally independent from the two previous movies,” would be having its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this month, but that’s not exactly what happened. What actually happened was that there was a private screening of the film for potential distributors. We don’t know how that went, but we are benefiting from the film’s search for distributors. The first image made its way online a couple weeks ago (that can be seen above), and now a teaser trailer has made its way online. You can check that out right here:

After a series of Covid-related delays, production finally got underway on the long-gestating Silent Hill "requel" last year in Germany, and a first official image from the movie has been released ahead of its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
The still (via Fandango) gives us a first look at a redesigned take on the big bad of the survival horror video game series, Pyramid Head.
Pyramid Head, also known as "Red Pyramid", "Red Pyramid Thing" and "Triangle Head," was introduced in the second game, and his distinctive visage has gone on to become arguably the most iconic piece of imagery from the franchise.
This new version of the character doesn't look a million miles away from the video game take, but the pyramid-shaped helmet appears to be winder and longer.
Check out the still at the link below.
Our first look at Pyramid Head from #ReturnToSilentHill just dropped at #Cannes2024.

Gunmen: Mario Van Peebles fondly recalls working with Christopher Lambert on underrated 90s actioner
The other day, one of our writers sat down with Mario Van Peebles to talk about his upcoming spiritual sequel to Posse, Outlaw Posse. In the pretty awesome conversation, we asked Mario about what we consider a pretty underrated movie of his, Gunmen. This 1994 action flick paired him with Christopher Lambert, with an all-star cast that included Denis Leary as the film’s villain, Patrick Stewart, and nineties dream girl Brenda Bakke, as well as 90s rappers like Big Daddy Kane, Eric B, Rakim, Doctor Dre and Ed Lover – who all played themselves. It’s a tough movie to find these days, but Peebles had fond memories of what they were trying to accomplish with it.
“Gunmen tips a hat to The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. My character, Christophe’s character, and the other character have a piece of the puzzle as to where the cachet of gold is.

This article contains massive spoilers for "Abigail."
Dancing ballet en Pointe is arguably one of the hardest styles of dance to perfect. It takes years of training and rigorous dedication to master the move, and even still, without the support of pointe shoes, the body alone is not enough to withstand the pressure of the weight of a full human on such a small surface area. Ballet en Pointe can be hell on the body — especially the feet — but when executed properly, it looks absolutely effortless. In "Abigail," the incredible new horror film from the creative collective known as Radio Silence, a group of criminals are tasked with kidnapping a small girl named Abigail and holding her for ransom only to discover that they've been set up, and Abigail is a vampire who has locked them in her mansion of horrors to "play with her food" before devouring them all.

What the heck is Sasquatch Sunset?
Sure, we watched the trailer released earlier this year, but that didn’t help much. Outside of brief introductory text and quotes from critics, the wordless trailer introduces us to a group of Bigfoots in their natural wooded habitat. We watch them frolic in the woods, pound sticks on trees, and, yes, screw.
Although Sasquatches have appeared in film before, they usually have a clear and definable purpose. They’re monsters in movies such as Willow Creek or slightly bigger pets in comedies like Harry and the Hendersons. But Sasquatch Sunset doesn’t seem to fit into either of those categories, so what kind of movie is it?
“The movie is so funny because you’re watching these things that feel othered,” actor Jesse Eisenberg tells Den of Geek at SXSW 2024. “And then in 10 minutes, you’re watching these things that feel completely human,...

“Vive la paix, vive le cinéma!”
Irène Jacob, the president of Lyon’s Lumière Institute which runs the Lumière Film Festival, chose to mark the opening of the event on Saturday night with a solemn message of peace, a week to the day after the outbreak of renewed conflict in the Middle East.
“Tonight, we are really looking forward to this festival as a gesture of peace, because we do not forget what is going on in the world, the tragedies that move us, the wars all around us, the children and civilians in danger, the madness and the sadness of our divided world. Vive la paix, vive le cinéma!”
The message was in line with the spirit of Europe’s leading classic film festival, which has always made a point of being a window to the world past and present ever since its first edition back in 2009.

At Annecy with four features, including buzzy main competition entry “Mars Express,” Strasbourg-based Amopix will create a second studio, Amopix Annecy, located in the Route des Creuses to the west of Annecy.
The move comes as Amopix, the animation studio behind Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight title “Margarethe 89,” produced by Eddy, is embarking on some 10 new titles, either as an animation studio or producer or both, including Louis Clichy’s “Le Corset” and “Shalotte, an Onion for All Cases,” a TV series produced in international co-production, a potential growth axis, Amopix founder Mathieu Rolin told Variety.
Reasons for setting up in Annecy cut several ways: the location, which is highly attractive thanks to its exceptional geographical position and the presence in Annecy of the world’s biggest animation festival.
Public sector policies, implemented by Citia, behind the Annecy Intl. Film Animation Festival, are backing the development of a local animation sector with dedicated incentives.

As has been previously written about in the pages of /Film, filmmaker Christopher Nolan has endeavored to make his new film "Oppenheimer" -- a biopic of J. Robert Oppenheimer, one of the men behind the invention of the atomic bomb -- with a minimum of computer-generated images. Nolan has always been very vocal about his fondness for analog filmmaking, preferring to shoot on physical film and rely as much as he can on practical effects. Nolan has used some CGI throughout his career, but will never be one of those directors who finds themselves filming inside greenscreen environs.
This sense of artistic purity, perhaps alarmingly, led Nolan to recreate nuclear explosions in real life for "Oppenheimer." The director, quite naturally, wasn't about to start exploding actual atomic bombs, but he did want to get real-life explosions on camera. This involved a lot of munitions experimentation, needing to find other, non-nuclear...
