Sam Cartier
- Composer
Sam Cartier has composed music for various short films and video games, as well as other types of media such as commercials, show jingles and podcasts.
Born in Huizen, The Netherlands, Sam Cartier (birth name: Semm-Kartjé de Ruijter) discovered his love for music at an early age. He started playing the piano when he was six years old and at the age of twelve, he began to create his own songs. At that point he knew what he aspired to do for a living: compose music.
When he finished high school in 2015 Cartier studied Musicology at the University of Utrecht, where he learned about music history, analysis of classical compositions, and music theory.
Along with this study he followed an education in Amsterdam called ProMusic Training, that focused on how to write music for different kinds of instruments and arrangements.
Subsequently, Cartier went to the Audio-Visual Academy (in Hilversum, The Netherlands) in 2016, another education about studio engineering and music production.
In 2017 Sam started studying E-Music at the Conservatory in Haarlem, The Netherlands, where he graduated in 2021. During this study, he learned how to operate professionally as a producer and composer, and how to collaborate and find new contacts. At the Conservatory he was taught about studio technology, mixing, performing, music production skills, entrepreneurship, music education, musical hearing training, sound design, foley, and composing for film, games and commercials.
During this 4-year trajectory at the Conservatory in Haarlem, Cartier realized more specifically what type of composer-producer he wanted to be. Because of his passion for countless types of music and his love for the film and gaming industry, Cartier decided to focus on the musically diverse world of media composing.
