So you think you’re not that into sports movies? Don’t care to watch a group of sweaty individuals running after a ball? By the end of Hustle, you’ll be placing bets on the NBA’s Rookie of the Year. Such is the power of a bearded Adam Sandler as NBA scout Stanley Sugerman, who gambles his career and his future on a young prospective recruit from Spain. Even if you have no knowledge of basketball, it’s easy to see why: Bo Cruz (Juancho Hernangómez) is undeniably a star. But with a complicated and troubled past and no official support from the league, Bo faces an uphill battle to success. Lucky for him, Stanley is all about those early morning training sprints.

High School Musical fans waited a long time for the fourth movie. In 2019, it finally came out – not as fourth installment but as High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Created by Tim Federle, it premiered on Disney+ in 2019.
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
The first season of the TV show didn’t follow the usual storyline from the Disney movies. Instead, it focused on real high school students at East High, where the original High School Musical was filmed.
The original HSM debuted in 2006 and was an instant hit. Disney subsequently released two sequels to the original film. The main leads in the original cast were Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. But, it seems like NBA star Anthony Edwards wants to replace Efron if the remake ever happens.

As an observer of both the cinematic and sporting worlds, it’s fascinating when the two intersect. ‘Hustle’, starring Adam Sandler, is one such crossroad, presenting an intriguing tale of a basketball scout who uncovers a gem of a player in Spain. This brings us to the character at the heart of the story: Bo Cruz, portrayed by Juancho Hernangomez. The question on many minds is whether Bo Cruz is a figure plucked from real NBA history or a fictional creation designed to captivate and inspire. WME Sports has added NBA All-Star Anthony Edwards to its growing roster of basketball talent. The agency will represent Edwards in all areas, on and off the court.
After attending the University of Georgia, Edwards was drafted as the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. In his debut season, Edwards was named first-team All-Rookie, and in 2023 he was selected as an NBA All-Star. The 21-year-old guard has already made his entrée into Hollywood, making his acting debut with a supporting role opposite Adam Sandler in Netflix’s “Hustle.”
“I’ve been locked in to giving everything I have to be the best I can be on and off the court, and no one is better equipped to support me and my family through this journey than WME Sports,” stated Edwards. “I’m excited about all we will do in basketball, entertainment, business and philanthropy,...

Since making his screen acting debut on “The Cosby Show” at age 21, Adam Sandler has built a reputation as a timelessly popular comedic performer with such resume highlights as “Happy Gilmore,” “50 First Dates,” and “Grown Ups,” not to mention his successful five-season stint on “Saturday Night Live.” He has also continually proven his dramatic chops over the past two decades as the star of “Punch-Drunk Love,” “Reign Over Me,” and “Uncut Gems,” the last of which brought him the most positive notices of his career just three years ago. Now, he is in the running for his first Screen Actors Guild Award based on his work in the sports drama film “Hustle.”

Netflix released a lot of original films in 2022, from animation to prestige fare to especially young adult book adaptations. There was no shortage of feel-good and transporting films to immerse viewers into entire universes, and even a bona fide box office success in the form of Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out” follow-up “Glass Onion.” Below, we’ve singled out some of our favorites.
Behold, the best Netflix original movies of 2022, listed in order of release.

Every 1,000 years or so, Adam Sandler seems to develop an itch to go off and make a movie with an auteur director (or directors in the case of the Safdie Brothers), giving rise to such critically-acclaimed films as "Punch-Drunk Love," "The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)," and "Uncut Gems." But as much as we cinephiles like to drag the Sandman for all the disposable movies he makes in-between, that doesn't mean they're devoid of personal meaning to him. No, not even "Grown Ups 2."
Sandler's 2022 offering to the Netflix gods, "Hustle," acts as an olive branch from his Happy Madison Productions label to the fans of his rare high art projects. The movie casts Sandler as Stanley Sugerman, a brusque, bearded scout for the Philadelphia 76ers who's eager to land a desk job and finally get off the road. Adam Sandler is taking part in an impressive Best Actor awards campaign for Hustle.
The sports drama was released on Netflix in June, and stars Sandler as an NBA scout who discovers a talented basketball player (Juancho Hernangómez) in Spain.
For the film, the actor received some of the best reviews of his career.
While his previous films for Netflix, including The Ridiculous 6, Sandy Wexler and Murder Mystery, were all torn apart by critics, Hustle was well regarded, and led to him breaking an impressive Rotten Tomatoes record.
On Wednesday (26 October), the Academy hosted an awards screening for Hustle, which is said to have received a warm response. Sandler was in attendance, and participated in a Q&a that was moderated by US chat show host Jimmy Fallon.

Adam Sandler received some of his strongest reviews of his career for his performance in Netflix’s “Hustle,” which dropped on the platform back in June. The actor and producer has always seemed like an easy target for critics to unload in reviews however, Sandler has never pretended to be anything more than who he is: a guy who loves movies and loves making them with his friends.
“I like working hard,” Sandler says. “I like being around my friends who work hard. We push each other. ‘Hustle’ was a brand new vibe for us.”
On the film awards season premiere of the award-winning Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, Sandler sits down to discuss his performance in the Netflix sports dramedy “Hustle.” He discusses the awards buzz surrounding his role, whether or not we’ll ever get a full-length album of his music and the type of movie he’s dying to make.

In Hustle, a burned out Philadelphia 76ers scout (Adam Sandler) discovers a raw talent (pro hooper Juancho Hernangómez) in a Spanish pick-up game and attempts to put him on the NBA’s draft radar. It’s got the familiar structural bones of the underdog sports drama—complete with epic training montage—but Hustle is like a perfectly run play. Even if you know what’s coming, you’re defenseless when it’s executed properly. The plot mechanics may be recognizable, but the approach to shooting the basketball scenes is novel. As Hustle cinematographer Zak Mulligan points out, televised presentations of the sport—and most basketball movies—offer the action […]

If you happened to catch the new Adam Sandler film “Hustle” on Netflix over the weekend — as many did, judging by the fact it immediately shot to #1 on the streamer — you might have been intrigued by the actor starring opposite the comedy legend. Sandler plays a Philadelphia 76ers scout named Stanley Sugarman who believes he’s found the next NBA star in Bo Cruz, a temperamental Spanish player who is more than a little rough around the edges. For the role of Cruz, director Jeremiah Zagar needed to find a great actor who could also play basketball. As it turned out, he found Juancho Hernangómez, an NBA player for the Utah Jazz who, in his acting debut, turns out to be a major onscreen presence.

Adam Sandler may officially be entering his Blue Period. Oh, Our Patron Saint of the Holy Abbie-Doobie is still making the sort of broad, big-swing comedies he’s always made, still not afraid to channel his inner manchild in the middle of a lysergic sugar-high. (A friendly reminder: This movie came out in late 2020.) Those are the movies that have earned Sandler nice houses and nine-figure Netflix deals, and far be it from us to criticize how a man butters his very expensive bread. We still ride or die for Billy Madison.

Adam Sandler is a comedy genius of this time. He is well known for his hilarious roles in Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy, Grown Ups, and Murder Mystery.
Adam and His Movies
Although critics say that Adam Sandler makes a bad movie even worse, we have to disagree. Mr. Sandler knows exactly how to draw attention to the screen and is probably the only thing making these bad movies some money because even though it is terrible, you cannot stop watching them.
Adam Sandler’s Netflix Movies – Ranked Hustle
Adam Sandler spent most of his time recently working on the movie “Hustle” which Netflix released on June 8. The movie is about a down on his luck basketball scout (Sandler) who catches a lucky break when he discovers a new young talent (Bo Cruz). He decides to bring the new talent back without the approval of his team, causing quite a stir between teammates.

Adam Sandler’s real-life love for the game of basketball is on full display in Hustle, an ode to pro basketball featuring a gigantic supporting cast of NBA legends and rising stars. The feel-good sports drama is a straightforward underdog story in essence, but its true strengths lie in how it delves into the psychology of the game, and the front office intrigue that fans seldom get to see.
Viral clips of Sandler pulling up to random public parks and gyms to play pick-up basketball games with awestruck civilians have been circulating online for years, so it seems natural that his obsession with the game would bleed into his onscreen work. It worked brilliantly in Uncut Gems, and Hustle similarly benefits from Sandler’s understanding of the game and the culture that surrounds it. Filmmaker Jeremiah Zagar was not the obvious fit to direct an Adam Sandler passion project about a basketball scout. Zagar’s 2018 narrative feature debut “We the Animals” was a lyrical coming-of-age drama that combined elements of “Moonlight” and Terrence Malick to explore the experiences of a biracial child coming to terms with his sexuality. Needless to say, when Sandler called him about possibly directing “Hustle,” in which the actor plays a Philadelphia Sixers recruit attempting to reboot his career, Zagar didn’t get it.
“He’s a very understated guy when you first meet him,” Zagar told IndieWire of his initial call with Sandler. “He said I probably wouldn’t want to do this script, but that I should take a look. So I read it and I was like, ‘He’s right, it’s not for me.’”
