Art of the Title has posted an interview with "Iron Man 3" Creative Director Danny Yount about the film's memorable end credits sequence, which mixes footage from all three Iron Man films together in one glorious, '70s throwback montage. The interview takes you through the end credits' entire creative process, from the more tech-driven first approach, to an animated Iron Man striptease, up through to the ultra-'70s demo that led to the final product.
"[Director] Shane [Black] is open to retro things — as evidenced in 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' — so he wanted something kind of like an old film title... like Pablo Ferro's 'Bullitt' titles," explains Yount. "And I'm a product of the '70s and '80s so I love old TV crime drama titles like 'The Dukes of Hazard' and 'Get Smart.' I'm also a huge fan of the classic comedies like 'Airplane!

For his Vimeo Award-winning "A History Of The Title Sequence," Dutch filmmaker Jurjen Versteeg imagined a documentary about the greatest title sequence designers of all times, and....well, made a title sequence for it. The 2 minute parade of names features Saul Bass and Danny Yount alongside quieter stars like Stephen Frankfurt (whose famous domino effect for "To Kill A Mockingbird" seems to have actually inspired a real live documentary). Their names are animated to represent whatever aesthetic the designer is famous for introducing.
Take a look at Versteeg's "History Of The Title Sequence" below, and our video slideshow of the sequences he's referring to below that. A few are copyright restricted -- to access full versions of those openings, head to the links in the captions.

This is the second in our new series, Mindhole Blowers (read the first, on Cameron Crowe's Singles) where we troll the Internet and listen to DVD Commentaries of our favorite films and bring you some of the fascinating minutia about them. Today, we look at Shane Black's 2005 cult hit, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which helped revitalize the career of Robert Downey, Jr., who has since become a huge action star in the Iron Man franchise. Shane Black, the director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, will direct Rdj in Iron Man 3.
Johnny Knoxville was originally attached to play the role that eventually went to Robert Downey, Jr. Harrison Ford was also once considered for the role taken by Val Kilmer (under a bigger budget version of the film). Hugh Grant and Benecio Del Toro were also briefly considered for the lead roles.

If you like movies it's not hard to find pleasure in almost every aspect of them, which is what makes Christian Annyas's Movie Title Stills Collection so fascinating.
Annyas gives the following description to his extremely well designed and addictive movie title obsessed website: I've seen a lot of movies over the years, and to prove I've sat through at least the first ten minutes of them I started making screenshots of the titles. Then my computer crashed and I almost lost them all. To save them for future generations I created this little website. In a matter of minutes I made the following graphic using only 45 of his many title screencaptures ranging from 1900-2009.
A collection of 45 title sequences from the Movie Title Stills Collection Like I said, it's highly addictive to browse through the collection, watching as films move from black-and-white to color in the 1950-1954 collection or...

I will say this much for Guy Ritchie's RocknRolla: It's one of the bigger curiosities on the early fall slate of films. If you spend much time here at all, you've probably already learned I'm not a fanboy and I'm not an apologist. If people make lousy movies, I'll say they're lousy. If they make a few, I start to question their ability, regardless of how their careers may have started. Some people will eagerly say that RocknRolla is going to be incredible because, you know, look at Snatch and Lock, Stock. Well, I was in my 20s when those movies came out. And now I'm nowhere near my 20s.
The point is, just because Guy Ritchie made two cool gangster movies about ten years ago, that doesn't mean this will automatically be one, as well. And if you look at the years between Snatch and RocknRolla, Ritchie...

I know what you're thinking -- "Well, that's just silly. Why would I want to watch the opening credits of a film?" Well, because these opening credits were designed by Danny Yount. I'm willing to bet you've watched and marveled over his work before. He did the opening credits for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Six Feet Under, and the closing credits of Iron Man. His latest masterpiece is RocknRolla, and he's put it up online for you to enjoy on his official site. As far as I'm concerned, Yount is resurrecting a lost art, a care that used to be lavished on movie titles in the glorious golden days of Hitchcock. Watch it, enjoy, and wish that more movie productions would take the time and trouble to hire an artist like him.

As you may have noticed, Guy Ritchie is back. After two disasters, he’s back with an (apparently) great film. It’s RocknRolla—his return to Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels London-crazy-gangster form. As you also may have noticed, Danny Yount’s opening titles for RocknRolla have also found their way online ...

Call me crazy, but I love a good opening sequence. From Seven to Catch Me If You Can, I love a sequence that really sets the mood for the rest of the film. Rocknrolla, which comes out in October, has a pretty neat opening sequence that has popped up online courtesy of graphic designer Danny Yount. Yount is also the guy behind the Iron Man and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang credits, which were also fanriffic. You can check out more of his work at his official site and check out the Rocknrolla credits below. Good stuff!

Today the opening sequence for Guy Ritchies RockNRolla went live on Danny Yount's Official Website. I am really impressed with what he has done and the more I see of this film the more I am reminded of Shoot'em Up. Click on the image below to check out the opening credits of the film.
