The Toxic Avenger shared the first footage of its titular vigilante — armed with a mission and a mop — from the horror-comedy film starring Peter Dinklage.
Macon Blair’s feature reimagines the original 1984 cult-favorite movie and premiered this month at the Fantastic Fest in Austin. The Legendary Entertainment project, which has not yet announced a release date, stars Dinklage as Winston Gooze, a janitor whose employer refuses to cover treatment for his terminal illness. After robbing the company, Winston falls into toxic waste and aims to right society’s wrongs as the Toxic Avenger.
In the footage, a news anchor announces, “A group of armed extremists, the Nasty Lads — they’ve taken hostages at a Miss Meat lunchatorium downtown.” This leads to the introduction of the Toxic Avenger, a superhero who takes matters into his own hands.

Gareth Edwards brought Godzilla back to life in the modern day (above) with an atmospheric, moody drama that saved much of its monster action for the final third of the movie. Earlier this year, we saw another legendary creature return to life in Jordan Vogt-Roberts' Kong: Skull Island, which introduced Kong early as a monstrous threat to anyone who invaded his domain. Godzilla and King Kong are the main components of a new "giant monsters" universe. The next installment, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, has just begun filming in Mexico City, as reported by BBC. Producer Alex Garcia says: "We scouted extensively across the world to find the perfect environment for this key scene in the film and found everything we needed here in Mexico City. Godzilla is one of...

Kong is back, transformed into a ‘MonsteVerse’ colossus suitable for combat with Kaiju-sized foes. The key inspiration is video games but the day is saved by capable performers in mostly amusing roles. Even though the show treats its fantasy halfway seriously, it’s still an infantile guns ‘n’ monsters romp, embellished with impressive visual effects.

Following the global success of 2014’s “Godzilla” and this year’s “Kong: Skull Island,” comes the next chapter in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic MonsterVerse: an epic action adventure that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history.
The film, which began principal photography on June 19, is being directed by Michael Dougherty (“Krampus”), and stars Oscar nominees Vera Farmiga (“Up in the Air,” “The Conjuring” films), and Ken Watanabe (“The Last Samurai”) and Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), both reprising their “Godzilla” roles; Kyle Chandler (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Manchester by the Sea”); Millie Bobby Brown (“Stranger Things”) in her feature film debut; Bradley Whitford (“Get Out”); Thomas Middleditch (HBO’s “Silicon Valley”); Charles Dance (HBO’s “Game of Thrones”); O’Shea Jackson Jr. (“Straight Outta Compton”); Aisha Hinds (“Star Trek Into Darkness”); and Golden Globe nominee Zhang Ziyi (“Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”).
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
Dougherty directs from a script he wrote with Zach Shields. The film is being produced by Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Brian Rogers and Thomas Tull, with Barry H. Waldman, Zach Shields, Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira serving as executive producers and Alexandra Mendes co-producing for Legendary.
Behind the scenes, Dougherty’s creative team includes director of photography Lawrence Sher, whose past credits include “War Dogs” and “Godzilla,” for which he handled additional photography; production designer Scott Chambliss (“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” “Star Trek Into Darkness”); editor Roger Barton (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” the “Transformers” films); costume designer Louise Migenbach (the “X-Men” and “Hangover” films); and Oscar-winning VFX supervisor Guillaume Rocheron (“Godzilla,” “Ghost in the Shell,” and part of the Oscar-winning team behind “Life of Pi ”).
Filming is taking place mainly in Atlanta, Georgia. A presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, the film is currently scheduled for release in March 2019, and will be distributed in 3D and 2D and in select IMAX theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, except in Japan, where it will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd.
Meanwhile, Tag! You’re It!
Production begins this week on location in Atlanta for the new comedy “Tag,” directed by Jeff Tomsic (Comedy Central’s “Broad City”) for New Line Cinema. The film’s starring ensemble cast is led by Ed Helms (The “Hangover” movies, “We’re the Millers”), Jake Johnson (TV’s “New Girl”), and Hannibal Buress (“Neighbors”), with Jon Hamm (“Baby Driver,” TV’s “Mad Men”) and Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner (“The Hurt Locker, “The Town”).
For one month every year, five highly competitive friends hit the ground running in a no-holds-barred game of tag they’ve been playing since the first grade—risking their necks, their jobs and their relationships to take each other down with the battle cry “You’re It!” This year, the game coincides with the wedding of their only undefeated player, which should finally make him an easy target. But he knows they’re coming…and he’s ready. Based on a true story, “Tag” shows how far some guys will go to be the last man standing.
The film also stars Annabelle Wallis (“The Mummy”), Rashida Jones (TV’s “Parks and Recreation”), Isla Fisher (“Now You See Me”) and Leslie Bibb (“Iron Man 2”).
Tomsic directs from a screenplay written by Mark Steilen (TV’s “Mozart in the Jungle”) and Rob McKittrick (“Waiting”), based on the Wall Street Journal article entitled “It Takes Planning, Caution to Avoid Being It.” The film is produced by Todd Garner, Mark Steilen and Sean Robins, with Hans Ritter serving as executive producer. The creative filmmaking team includes director of photography Larry Blanford, editor Josh Crockett, production designer David Sandefur, and costume designer Denise Wingate.
“Tag” is set for a June 29, 2018, release.

1933 was the year King Kong first graced our screens, and now, over 80 years later, the mythical cinematic creation returns in his biggest form yet, in Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Kong: Skull Island. To mark the films release we sat down with producer Alex Garcia, who explains to us what he feels it is about this great ape that has allowed for him to stand the test of time so triumphantly.
“Kong is this mythic character that represents something larger than us,” he told us. “There’s also something about the misunderstood beast who is not exactly what you think when you first meet him. He’s not as fearful as you think, he’s a misunderstood creature, he resonates and its a daunting thing to take a character this beloved and do something new with it, but have it feel true to its foundations.”

Producer Alex Garcia talks to us about Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla and Legendary's growing kaiju movie universe...
Alex Garcia knows a thing or two about giant monsters. He was the executive producer on Bryan Singer's 2013 fantasy Jack The Giant Slayer and 2014's Godzilla, and now he's the producer of this year's Kong: Skull Island. The movie not only represents the giant ape's return to cinema screens for the first time since 2005's King Kong remake, directed by Peter Jackson, but also the next step in a larger series of giant monster flicks from Legendary Entertainment.

I've enjoyed the creature designs that we've seen so far in the trailers and promos for Kong: Skull Island, all of which you can catch up on here if you want. I have a feeling were going to see a lot more creatures when we actually go see the movie.
If you're a fan of the films of Hayao Miyazaki, you'll be happy to learn that the creatures we will see in Skull Island were inspired by his designs, specifically from Princess Mononoke. This bit of trivia was revealed during a recent interview from JoBlo with producer Alex Garcia, who said:
"The creatures are a big thing. Jurassic World obviously owns the dinosaur thing right now. If Kong is the God of this island, we wanted each of the creatures to feel like they're individual gods of their own domain. Miyazaki and Princess Mononoke was actually a big reference in...

When Gareth Edwards’ summoned the King of the Monsters back into theaters three years ago with Godzilla, the notion of a shared universe involving King Kong was nigh on wishful thinking, and it was only when Legendary Entertainment struck a deal with Warner Bros. that the so-called Monsterverse started to take shape.
And though it may have split critics down the middle, both studios quickly issued the green light for both a Godzilla sequel and Kong Vs. Godzilla, a crossover event for the ages that’s on course to light up theaters in 2020. Long before moviegoers bear witness to Legendary and WB’s gladiatorial brawl, though, Jordan Vogt-Roberts will add his own piece to the puzzle in the form of Kong: Skull Island, and we now have a better sense of the connective tissue tying Skull Island to the Godzilla of 2014.

Legendary Pictures has just released one of the best movie posters that I've seen so far this year! It's an IMAX poster for Kong: Skull Island, and it's done in the same style as Francis Ford Coppola's classic Vietnam War film Apocalypse Now. I love this poster, and I want one! I included the Apocalypse Now poster below so that you can compare the two.
We also have some new information regarding the film and its connection to Godzilla. According to CinemaBlend, one of the characters in Skull Island will tie the two monster movies together even though they take place 40 years apart.
It's explained that the story follows Tom Hiddleston's character, Conrad, who is a tracker and former British Special Air Service soldier hired to assist a crew on an expedition to Skull Island towards the end of the Vietnam War. The team that he's leading happens...

Standalone monster movies are all well and good, but we all know it’s twice as fun if you have double the monsters. Luckily for us, Legendary and Warner Bros have decided that today — with our mastery of CG and proliferation of cinematic universes — is the perfect age to see these oversized creatures go head to head.
But if you were hoping to see it sooner rather than later, you may be in for a bit of a disappointment. These two won’t be sharing the screen for some time now. Rather than jump straight into a one-on-one melee, the filmmakers decided to give King Kong his own movie, then Godzilla one more before the two titans collide. But just because they won’t be sharing the screen anytime soon, don’t think the studios won’t lay some breadcrumbs for us along the way.

The new IMAX poster for Kong: Skull Island pays homage to a classic film that’s also set in the violent era of the Vietnam War.
Unveiled by EW, the Kong: Skull Island poster features a similar style and layout as Bob Peak’s artwork for Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now. Kong: Skull Island takes place in the ’70s with Vietnam War-era military equipment and personnel, perhaps leading to the fitting shout-out to Coppola’s classic film on the new IMAX poster.

Last October, horror fans received a Halloween treat when it was rumored that Trick ’r Treat and Krampus director Michael Dougherty would be directing the sequel to 2014’s Godzilla, and now, as a late holiday gift, those rumors have been confirmed.
Variety reports that Dougherty will indeed be directing Godzilla 2 as well as co-writing the latest version of the screenplay with his Krampus co-penner Zach Shields.
The Legendary Pictures’ film will be overseen by Alex Garcia, with Warner Bros. scheduled to release the movie in theaters on March 22nd, 2019, a little over one year before Godzilla vs. Kong shakes the big screens on May 29th, 2020.
Having directed Trick ’r Treat and Krampus, and with his co-writer’s credit on Superman Returns, Dougherty is no stranger to working with Legendary and Warner Bros. Are you excited to see a new Godzilla movie roar to life with Dougherty at the helm?

The movie reimagines the origin of the mythic Kong in a compelling, original adventure from director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (“The Kings of Summer”).

Unveiled by EW, the new image gives fans their first really clear look at the latest version of King Kong, and to go along with the reveal, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts shared some key details about the movie and its titular creature.
Vogt-Roberts told EW that the new take on King Kong has more in common with 1933's King Kong than the other film versions:
"We sort of went back to the 1933 version in the sense that he’s a bipedal creature that walks in an upright position, as opposed to the anthropomorphic, anatomically correct silverback gorilla that walks on all fours."

There’s a line in the awe-inspiring Sdcc trailer for Kong: Skull Island – “you don’t go into someone’s home unless you’re picking a fight.” – that perfectly tees up an obscure shot of the great ape himself, standing tall against the shimmering sunset.
But just how tall will the immense gorilla be in Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ upcoming reboot? Well, according to producer Alex Garcia, Kong will stand at a mighty 100ft tall and is very much considered to be “his own species.”
Word comes by way of Empire, who quizzed Garcia in the lead up to Sdcc for their new issue. Considering that the 1933 version of Kong was estimated to be around 25ft tall, Tom Hiddleston and co. will be tackling a very different kind of horror – a monster from some bygone era, as Samuel L. Jackson’s booming character sums up.

Considering that the 1933 version of Kong was estimated to be around 25ft tall, Tom Hiddleston and co. will be tackling a very different kind of horror – a monster from some bygone era, as Samuel L. Jackson’s booming character sums up.

"Legendary Pictures’ Krampus, a darkly festive tale of a yuletide ghoul, reveals an irreverently twisted side to the holiday.
When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max (Emjay Anthony) is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers.

Make sure this album is on your list this holiday season. The Krampus – The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will release digitally on December 4, 2015, on Back Lot Music.
The album features the original music created by composer Douglas Pipes (Monster House, Trick ‘R Treat), pre-orders available now on iTunes. A CD is forthcoming, while Waxwork Records will distribute the soundtrack on vinyl, pre-orders available starting December 4th at www.waxworkrecords.com. The digital album also features a bonus track of the popular tune “Carol of the Bells,” rewritten and appropriately retitled “Krampus Karol of the Bells.”
When creating the score, Pipes wanted to remain true to the spirit of Christmas. “We used melodies of Christmas carols, sometimes just fragments, sometimes altered, as well as traditional Christmas instruments throughout,” said Pipes. He knew it was going into dark fantasy-horror territory, but to make the score unique Pipes created a theme for Krampus...

Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures have released a new featurette that explains the history of the title character of Krampus, their new Christmas-themed horror movie written and directed by Michael Dougherty. He's the man responsible for my favorite Halloween movie, Trick 'r Treat, and it looks like he's going to bring the same kind of humor, horror, and holiday vibe to this movie. Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner, Allison Tolman, Conchata Ferrell, Stefania Lavie Owen, Krista Stadler, and Emjay Anthony star, and the film opens in theaters on December 4th. Watch the full trailer here if you haven't seen it yet.

After the table is cleared of turkey and cranberry sauce later this week, it won't be long before Michael Dougherty's Krampus stomps into theaters on December 4th. Ahead of the film's release, a new featurette has been revealed that examines the Christmas demon and shows why you'll want to stay off his naughty list.

In a much-needed shot in the arm for Warner Bros, the studios are building a franchise based on super-species including a 2020 Godzilla-King Kong showdown.
The first three films announced on Wednesday by Warner Bros chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara and Legendary chairman Thomas Tull are Kong: Skull Island in 2017, Godzilla 2 in 2018 and Godzilla Vs. Kong in 2020.
Production on Kong: Skull Island is set to begin on Monday. Despite Legendary’s overall partnership with Universal, Warner Bros holds distribution rights to the tentpole, as it does on the Godzilla films.
It appears that Monarch, the human organisation that uncovered Godzilla in the 2014 film, will become an integral part of an overarching storyline that will include other ‘super-species’.
Ever since Legendary’s Comic-Con 2014 presentation, speculation on the blogosphere has been rife over the identity of the additional ‘super-species’.
