Fifty years ago, two unknown filmmakers named Wes Craven and Sean Cunningham released their low-budget thriller “Last House on the Left.” Or, given its effect on audiences, maybe it’s more accurate to say they unleashed the film. Either way, the horror genre was never the same: Craven, who was making his feature directorial debut with “Last House,” went on to helm several of the smartest, scariest, and most imitated horror films of all time, including “The Hills Have Eyes,” “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” and “Scream.” Cunningham, his producer, would exert an equally pervasive influence on the genre as the director of the original “Friday the 13th.” Ironically, neither filmmaker had a strong desire to make horror movies. “I do not think Sean or Wes had any personal affinity for horror or set out to make an influential mark on the genre,” David Szulkin, author of “Wes Craven’s...

Cat In The Brain returns to theaters. Lovers of fantastic cinema worldwide still mourn the passing of the late, visionary Italian genre filmmaker Lucio Fulci, a director who found great fame in the 1970s making violent, hallucinatory thrillers, westerns and horror film and who forever locked his cult with his “golden age” series of extreme,…

There's no doubt about it; the loss of Sage Stallone struck a true blow to the millions of fans who enjoy the old grindhouse flicks of yesteryear. Thankfully Stallone's legacy and love for these movies is about to live on in a big way!
From the Press Release
Grindhouse Releasing has announced Corruption and An American Hippie In Israel as the first in a series of new Blu-ray, DVD, and theatrical releases. Both movies will arrive on home video on September 10.
Founded by the late Sage Stallone (1976-2012) and Bob Murawski, Grindhouse Releasing has long been considered the Criterion of cult movie labels. On Tuesday, William Lustig's 'Maniac' arrived on DVD and Blu-ray in a new 30th Anniversary Edition, released by cult-friendly distributor Blue Underground. To commemorate the release, fellow theatrical and DVD distributor Grindhouse Releasing is spearheading a limited theatrical re-release of the film in theatres around the country, starting on October 29 and 30 with the Egyptian Theatre in Seattle. The film will subsequently screen in Los Angeles at the Nuart Theatre on November 5, with Lustig on hand to introduce the film and conduct a q&a with the audience.
Grindhouse Releasing successfully launched a roadshow series of screenings of Sam Raimi's 'The Evil Dead' in 2009, and according to company spokesman David Szulkin, who runs its theatrical division, that film has played in theaters every week of 2010 and continues to screen all over the country. I love Grindhouse Releasing! They've done several high profile theatrical re-releases for exploitation classics, and they're at it again! This fall will see a limited theatrical release of Bill Lustig's sleaze classic Maniac in several cities across the country, in conjunction with Blue Underground's Blu-ray release of the film. This marks a rare chance to witness Joe Spinell's classic and disturbing performance as the title character, I wouldn't miss it if I were you! I hope it makes its way to my town, that's for sure. Find the details below:
Maniac stars Joe Spinell (Rocky, The Godfather, Taxi Driver) as Frank Zito, a deeply disturbed man haunted by the traumas of unspeakable childhood abuse. When these horrific memories begin to scream inside his mind, Frank prowls the seedy streets of New York City to stalk and slaughter innocent young women. Even as he begins a relationship...

Grindhouse Releasing has been holding true to its name by making sure us common folk don’t forget about the classics. The company is bringing midnight screenings of Sam Raimi’s cult classic The Evil Dead to venues across the country, and they show no signs of stoping now.
The company has just made a deal to show a brand-new 35mm print of the horror film to debut this Friday, March 5 at Landmark’s Nu Art theater. Here’s what their rep had to say:
“We’re expecting a sold-out crowd for Evil Dead in Los Angeles, following our successful openings in New York, Seattle, Dallas, Houston, Portland, and other cities,” says David Szulkin, Grindhouse Releasing’s theatrical director. “Demand for the movie led us to make a new print, which includes our all-new horror trailer show. Our plan is to keep Evil Dead playing in theaters throughout 2010.”

More often than not, I really wish I'd been born earlier and had the opportunity to see horror classics like The Evil Dead on the big screen. Sure, Blu-ray is great and 1080p projectors excel at replicating the theatrical experience, but they miss the mark. It's just that nothing really compares to seeing this stuff on the big screen with a packed audience of like-minded horror fans. But thanks to Grindhouse Releasing, I'll soon be able to cross another one off my wish list.
Landmark Theatres will present director Sam Raimi's 35mm print of Evil Dead at special midnight shows in Minneapolis, Denver, Seattle, New York, Houston, Dallas, and Los Angeles in the first quarter of 2010. If the film isn't scheduled for release in your area, don't fret, more dates are coming!

Grindhouse Releasing has announced that it will return Sam Raimi’s 1983 fright classic The Evil Dead to theaters. The company plans to send the unrated shocker into midnight bookings, similar to its revival of Lucio Fulci’s The Beyond a decade ago in partnership with Quentin Tarantino.
Grindhouse’s Bob Murawski, who edited Raimi’s Army Of Darkness, the Spider-man films and Drag Me To Hell, and Sage Stallone recently worked out a deal with the director, producer Rob Tapert and star Bruce Campbell to give Evil Dead new theatrical exposure. “Nothing can prepare an audience for what they are about to see, because nothing punishes an audience like Evil Dead—especially on the big screen,” Campbell says. “I’m really glad it’s back. People are gonna be hurt.” It’s certainly better than a remake… Grindhouse is currently arranging for playdates in both the U.S. and Canada...
