To celebrate the release of Long Way Up, the eagerly anticipated reuniting of Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman after almost 12 years, we sat down with the guys to chat about all things motorbikes.
Together again after their first two trips – Long Way Round and Long Way Down – McGregor and Boorman have mixed things up this time by deciding to do their newest trip on electric motorbikes which presented the duo with some amazing equipment but also proved to be a different challenge altogether, not least with trying to charge their new bikes in the middle of nowhere. But they told us that overall it was the right decision but did make for some heartstopping moments in the show, not least seeing McGregor having to be pulled along to make a once-a-day ferry.

I walked into the Elgin Theatre a year and a half ago for the Toronto International Film Festival’s screening of Emilio Estevez‘s The Way without knowing exactly what I was in for. I loved his Bobby a few years earlier, but after reading the glossy sheet of information pertaining to the film handed out to all in attendance I knew this was going to be a completely different beast.
Spiritual, personal, and a testament between father and son, this new work is an inspirational journey of finding oneself at a time you wouldn’t think possible. In the face of tragedy, one man breaks from the bubble he has spent decades building in order to say goodbye. In the process, however, he discovers the memories of and fervor for life his son possessed was in fact welcoming him home in a foreign land of second chances and absolute clarity.

The Way’s production was marked by a close and deep father-and-son collaboration - one that took director Emilio Estevez and actor Martin Sheen on a passage together into the high mountains of France and Spain and through some of the richly human questions that draw them both: questions about love, about community and about what keeps us moving forward when the road starts getting tougher, stranger and seemingly more forbidding.

Writer-director Emilio Estevez launched his indie film The Way, starring his father Martin Sheen, at last year's Toronto Film Fest. And now, like so many other indie filmmakers these days, he's releasing it himself by cobbling together his own distribution and marketing team. After Toronto, Estevez and Elixir Films producer David Alexanian met with a number of distributors, says Alexanian, who selected John Sloss and Bart Walker’s Producers Distribution Agency (Pda) and Trevor Drinkwater’s Arc Entertainment to release The Way. Pda and Arc will release the film on Friday, October 7 in 15 markets in the first week, exclusively in AMC Theatres. When Emilio Estevez launched The Way at the 2010 Toronto Film Festival, reaction was encouraging for the film he directed and which stars his father, Martin Sheen, as a grieving dad who walks The Camino de Santiago to honor his dead son. The movie's good, but it is also the kind of well-intentioned picture that often slips through the cracks. Estevez has found a way to escape the straight-to-dvd fate that befalls many such films. He and Elixir Films' David Alexanian have partnered with John Sloss and Bart Walker's Producers Distribution Agency and Trevor Drinkwater's Arc Entertainment to open the film exclusively in AMC Theaters in 15 markets on Oct. 7 for its first week, before broadening to 15 markets the following week and then expanding to 500 screens across the country.
